I really wish we could have got different cars. Canyon was so cool. I haven't played with any of the Sunrise cars in over a decade, but I bet one of those was cool, too. All of the original three, while different, kind-of have the same issue: none of them understeer. They all either slide out or flip over. I think we could have done with just one of them.

give them time. with nadeo and ubisoft desperate to push the game into the mainstream market, they'll probably start putting in more of the cars in the game despite the mixed reception this move has gotten from the community as a whole

I'm not a fan of the desert car because it requires action keys 2, 3, 4 and 5 to drive depending on the conditions and speed, which leaves keyboard players at disadvantage. The desert car is very bulky, which makes it difficult to drive on narrow blocks like the last map in the video. As one of the chatters pointed out, the way the car tilts from side to side doesn't make much sense either because its center of mass is fairly low relative to its size when compared to the other two cars that tilt. We now have basically three tilting cars with subtle differences in game physics besides the stadium car.

Keyboard players? On controller I only have access to 15 buttons total. Literally a third of my buttons are action keys. Gas Break Give up Respawn Change camera Chat Change spectator left Change spectator right View scoreboard Show/hide opponents Show hide ghosts Show hide names Rearview 5 action keys That's three more than I have space for on my controller. So I guess I unbind some of the spectating ones?

All three the new cars I've turns the steering sen down to .6 and all three still slide and tip over, horrible idea to add these cars...I just wanna drift, add the canyon car!

I like the Rally car. The Snow car is awful. I am reserving judgment on the Desert car until I learn how to drive it.

For me, desert car IS the TM car, its the first thing I tried in TM like 20+ years ago, we had these roads with a yellow center line built on stilts in the desert. for the longest time, that WAS trackmania the way I knew it.

Even so I mostly was into FPS games like Duke3d and Quake(1) at the time, so I never actually got into playing the game much. But I enjoy watching people do insane things in TM nowadays.

With the TMO disc, you'd get a poster with an absolutely insane, convoluted mess of a desert track.. and then some madlad built it. Lil' ole me found the track on TMX and went on to never manage to beat it. :D I was hoping there'd be a video of it somewhere on KZfaq (actually, I'm quite sure there is), but since the new game was ingeniously branded just "Trackmania" as well, I can't find it in the onslaught of new stuff. Sadge.

@@Grisu. hes not wrong, the 3 new cars all heavily favour smooth and consistant steering inputs. They literally force kb players to use action keys to even drive 99% of the tracks they are in.

@Grisu. I heard that but I mean have you played it yet on tm2020? I definitely struggle with the rapid tapping on kb. Especially the plastic map is very difficult because a tiny slip is an immediate speed penalty. Smooth steering is better for this car.

How do we drive this thing? The max viable steering angle seems to change wildly based on speed, but braking while turning always ends in disaster.

17:24 It's called the "Desert Car" because it's the original Desert Car from the Trackmania Original trilogy. Did you not know that the three new cars were supposed to be the three OG cars from the 2003 Trackmania Original?

The desert car (and environment) is my all-time favorite. Doesn't handle the best (the most convenient) at high speeds, of course, and I dearly miss the environment itself, but it doesn't get more OG Trackmania than two-wheeling turns. I also hope they'll give us more of the old cars. Imagine the full assembly of TMO, Sunrise and TM². I'd ABUSE the Canyon car.

But honestly, I adore the desert car so much, because of its funny and goofy handling. Like- I find it very hilarious to just watch the car tilt sideways and keep a long side wheelie while on a high-speed turn.

Island is worse, its landings are super buggy, the gears cripple any kind of low speed mapping. The only thing you can build is boring wide flat maps at high speed. At least with coast you can build trial, stunt, offroad..
