On January 27, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sophie Wilmès launched the new Belgian passport. A document that is even more secure thanks to new security and personalization techniques. The new Belgian passport will also be recognizable thanks to its original design, which honors one of the jewels of our culture: the heroines and heroes of comic strips.

Ik zou hiervoor bijna Belg willen worden. Super mooi. Ik weet nu niet of het Nieuw-Zeelandse of Belgische paspoort mooier is. Nieuwsgierig naar het specimen en de echte documenten. Nieuwsgierig naar de chip, grootte van foto's, Welke data groepen worden gebruikt en wat staat er in DG11 en DG12. Crypto, access control mechanismen Kloon detectie support. ;)

Because Herge was Belgian, Belgians now get a comic book instead of a passport. Inside pages are so colorful that stamps may not be clearly visible.

is it possible to get a list of characters here? I remember reading a bunch of these comics when I was a kid, I had the entire Tintin collection, and a bunch of the other characters from other comics are familiar too, like Lucky Luke, and the Smurfs, but my memory is fuzzy! these are beautiful designs! thanks! I can't wait to visit Belgium again, someday.

@@kristofrose7434 It's odd we have some twice, like the Smurfs and Tintin. Even Marsupilami is on there twice, as he appears together with Robbedoes/Spirou. I have also ever vaguely heard about Natasja, but I guess she's on there because she's a female main character, and has something with traveling. An I have never heard about Kari Lente. But then I'm missing some better known ones. Like De Blauwbloezen/Les Tuniques Bleus or Le Chat. Perhaps a Gaston Lagaffe/Guust Flater or some others from Studio Vandersteen like Bessy or De Rode Ridder. Bakelandt or Redbeard also wouldn't look off in this list. I guess the world isn't ready to feature Urbanus on it though. And Red Ears would also make some good female characters. But I wonder if you'd still be allowed in some countries...

Sympa le nouveau passeport, cependant il y à un point qui me dérange en tant que féministe, pourquoi il n'y à t-il pas de héroïne dans les pages de se passeport, Yoko Tsuno, Olive, ou encore les sisters, encore une fois la Belgique n'est pas très engagé vis-à-vis de la place des femmes en société... (Natacha n'est pas une BD très féministe) #féministeencolère.

Smurfs? Oh dear God! Is this a passport for Disneyland or national passport? Noting historical in this passport. It's lookg fancy, but cartoons... C'mon! It is national passport! Shame!

The security measures are nice, but . There's no seriousness about the passport. Belgium is the centre of Europe and Nato. I expected something more confident and powerful things on it. It's a funny comic passport. It symbolizes not Character. I think putting introductory things about Belgium and the pages could be less colorful. It's so childish and simple. What a pity...!

Unlike the Brits (I am am of them also) we do not get hung up and sentimental about traditional passports. I will be proud to have one of these whilst embarrassed to have to order the new UK seriously Blue and sober passport, valid no more in 27 countries !

Je n'ai pas aimé ce nouveau design. Je pense que notre pays a bien d'autres choses à présenter comme image, comme message et comme patrimoine que des héros des histoires imaginées. Déçu.

Le patrimoine belge se trouvait dans le passeport précédent. Il n'était pas vraiment remarquable et plutôt banal. J'adore le nouveau design.
