We've been hearing about this radio for a few months, but now have a official name, as well as some new images that look a little closer to reality. Not much new in the way of information, but I sure am excited about the external modular band additions?

If they fix the frontend overloading issue then I will consider it a win. Not terribly interested in it since I was disappointed in the x6100. The G90 is great since it has a good price to performance ratio

I think they must consider user antena mismatch issues and returns to no doing so.... However, they have the PA power unit that is reasonably priced...

Looks like a cool radio hope they fix the front end issues the 6100 has. I have 5105. Still having issues with mine. If I buy one I'll wait 7mos till work some of the bugs out of it.

Yeah it's always a good idea to wait and watch to make sure any issues don't creep up that can't be solved by a firmware update.

Looks like it has PSK31, RTTY modulator/demodulator built in ! That's a win for me. Probably a very nice touchscreen as well. FM Broadcast receiver, air band, and NOAA Weather reception. Nice ! Looks like a winner ! 2m FM would be nice, but if not, a handheld is very easy to take along on the hike up the hills and mountains. 😊

I'm looking forward to this and hope it's a good radio with the option to add VHF and UHF. I've got an ICOM 705, and really like that, but there's a lack of very portable all-band all-mode transceivers with Yaesu not making the 818 and 857 anymore.

Yeah it's such a shame they aren't making radios like that anymore. Hopefully Xiegu will push them some.

How much more portable do you want the 705 to be? To make it smaller they would have to downsize the screen. Is it too deep or two boxy?
@MikeN2MAK
@MikeN2MAK 7 ай бұрын
@@RobPetty622 the 705 is great and super portable. I use it more than my 7300 for POTA. The lack of an internal is a compromise, but I have a mAT 705+ that works fine if I need it. I was just saying with Yaesu discontinuing the 818 and 857, there's a lack of portable all-band and all-mode transceivers. The ICOM 7100 and Yaesu 991a are about all that's left in production. I think competition and options are a good thing and I'd just like to see more.

I saw that looking for after Black Friday/cyber Monday deals. I didn’t see that additional frequencies text. My thoughts are mixed. I’m thinking they add 6m as an option even though it says it comes with it or like you said 2m/6cm or it’s just advertising fluff.

The thing I am most interested in is, are these software defined radios capable of operating on MARS frequencies or are they locked to standard amateur bands? If locked are there active hactivists who can modify for use on the sector ?

Hactivists are hackers who hack for the intent on creating social change, so may not be the type to tackle this one. But I'm all about some radio hacks.

The earlier model (xiegu x6100) can be expanded to allow transmissions from 0 mhz to 30 mhz. This can be achieved by modifying a config file.

For that money it must be a much better radio than the 6100. If they resolve all the problems that the 6100 has , bigger battery , better sound quality , overheating problems , overloading, birdies, and hopefully 20 watts with external battery . i think 900 euros is a good price

I replied to a similar comment on the video but didn't get a reply. Is there anything besides the broadcast interference (they can't fix that with software) that you are talking about? Like one example of a promised feature that was not delivered? I'm only asking because I keep seeing this comment but can't get a reply, or if I do, it's something they never even listed a feature or promise.

@@ModernHam just the overall experience needs work. Bugs, battery issues, internal mic sucks. R1cbu luckily took up the gauntlet and has been working magic, 18 versions of firmware in like a year, originating company has released like what? 3 revisions all with their own issues.

If it’s low power like the 6100, forget it, I will get an 891. More bang for your buck, and not completely useless when it comes, like the 6100 was.
@ModernHam
@ModernHam 8 ай бұрын
There's a whole group of amateur radio operators that enjoy the challenge of QRP, small lightweight portable radios for things like long distance hikes. Also the power use aspect. The 891 is a power hog for what it really is, even at lower wattages due to the DSP, although it makes it sound great. It's not really aimed at the same use case as the x6100. Very much apples to oranges. I have both myself, but the 891 stays at home, and the x6100 goes backpacking. One is a portable low power QRP radio with the bells and whistles, the other is a work horse with clean audio without a tuner or battery for mobility

One nice contact in central russia 14000 km (20 watts) from Brasil. Before yesterday 5 watts ik worked Belgium en so on. I like the challenge with low power. Nah: just fix the issues with the x6100. Even if they add a transverter to the x6200 for 2m, 220, and 70cm, it wouldn't be worth it.

I know it has the AM broadcast issues but I don't think a firmware update can help. I've seen this comment 3 or 4 times but I can't get anyone to tell me what they are referring too. It's a shame you can't charge it and use it at the same time. They could maybe fix that with an update by slowing the charging while powered on.

It doesn't matter what it's called when it's Xiegu. They will again sell another product to eager hams which the company will again turn its back on you so they can fund the next iteration of gear left wanting. Oh don't get me wrong, they all look "sexy"; there will be "oohhs & aahhs" as guys drool over the waterfall display and fantasize of caressing its controls... But the result will be the same as Xiegu did in the past rigs: unfulfilled features they have no intentions to implement and the end users are left to conjure up workarounds on their own. Guys, don't make my mistake: stay away from this Chinese junk and stick with the quality gear made in the USA, Japan and the free markets of Europe. You have been warned.

@@ModernHamCW decode, Bluetooth, battery management, WiFi - all have huge issues to the point of being nonfunctional. Also, fundamentally flawed circuit board design - they used surface mount 3.5mm jacks that are guaranteed to fail and make the audio out and CW key ports unuseable.

exactly correct... folks who buy xiegu rigs are buying shoddy, half-finished products with poor firmware.... just look at X1M->G1M->G106 evolution... no keyer memories, no MEM->VFO copy function, no SWR or voltage readout, all with the same half-baked firmware... the g90 has been abandoned for updates, along with the 5105 ...

@@SOTA-plus Wifi is working with my system to provide remote audio and control with WFView, even though no real wifi functionality was advertised on the listing, besides saying it had a chip. Bluetooth mouse and keyboard seem to work fine, which is what was advertised. I haven't used CW decode, but it wasn't something advertised(they just added it to play around with?). I do see an annoying problem with battery management, being that you can't transmit with the radio and charge the battery at the same time. Haven't tried CW so I can't say much about the jacks, I can't find much online in the way of people talking about it. Has your failed or is this an assumption of what may happen?
