Such a long and storied heritage for the mid size #MercedesBenz saloon. Arguably their most popular segment, it’s always been modern, but traditional #Mercedes too - serving everyone from the businessman, to the taxi driver, to the performance car driver. And our new #EClass is aiming even higher - and today we will see how it drives in this new W214 Gen!!
Today we drive the E450 4matic 6 cylinder car! It’s a 400bhp very mild hybrid that is the cream of the crop for E class, including air suspension, AND give us some idea about future AMGs, which I have some updated news about - got a bit of a surprise in terms of sports sound that I can’t wait to show!!
We’ll also have a go in a plug-in hybrid which is massively more useful in this gen - we will drive the E300e 4Matic Plug in! It features 313HP and more crucially - 100KM of electric only range from the 25.4KW battery! I’ll also go over the other model variants such as the E200, E200d, and E400e Plug in.
In terms of design, we are going to go through all the main specs today including the Classic S Class style grille design, AMG line, and the main paint and wheel options - as how you spec this car can vary the look massively.
Today we will also check out the newly unveiled E Class Estate or Wagon model! It is now designed more as a shooting brake, while maintaining the boot space of the previous model. It looks stunning with the larger 21 inch wheels in arctic grey - and we will check out the boot space of the plug in version of this too. It’s slightly heavier by about 80KG, and does not get the rear wheel steer like the saloon - but it does get aromatic suspension on the rear axle as standard.
We will go over the Suspension - you get either steels or you can the technology package as an option. All-round AIRMATIC air suspension system with ADS+ continuously adjustable damping and rear-axle steering 4.5 degrees.
The interior is next level - I hated the photos but in reality it’s probably the best Mercedes has made. The new “Superscreen” is a reduced hyper screen, with a dedicated driver zone screen, and a much lower sportier “floating” dash. The interior has amazing things like digital air vents, dolby atmos, Passenger screen blocking function, a voice assistant that’s always on, and some of the most stunning ambient lighting you’ll ever see.
Then we will discuss AMG - apparently the E53 will come with a 6 cylinder this time! Hurray!! It will look awesome, and come in both wagon and saloon. We will also discuss the E63’s future.

U must be a female. This car looks feminine af. Espicially compared to a blacked out 5 series. The new BMW 5 looks like a big bulky BMW muscle car. This looks tiny and not aggresive at all.

Excellent review and I agree on all your comments on the exterior & interior design as well as the 450 ( my choice model) comments. I am concerned though at these new touch screen controls and the lack of attention on the road. Just too much reading to adjust a setting like the A/C for example.

The size of the engine seems irrelevant these days. For most vehicles, it's the size of the screen and number of screens that count.

Great review, very comprehensive and balanced. It will be interesting to see how it fairs on UK roads and if the road noise is as well suppressed on our typical rough tarmac. My 2018 E350e does not do very well on these types of surfaces, so hopefully we will notice an improvement in NVH. Personally I would not get the hybrid again (unless I was a company car driver of course, which I was back in 2018) even though this one now has a big range, because it just feels so heavy, and despite all- round air suspension it struggles to disguise the battery weight over the rear axle on anything other than very smooth, straight roads. This new hybrid is going to be even heavier so I doubt that that feeling will go away. Plus the high load-rated rear tyres on these hybrids (which are a different size to the fronts as well) don't last long, cost a small fortune and are never in stock at garages, which is a right pain if you get a puncture.

@@AI-qd4vb I changed them for less sporty touring tyres when the originals wore out, but they actually made it slightly worse. I think you are probably correct in that if the E class can't be quiet on UK roads then nothing except maybe a Rolls Royce is going to make any significant difference. I will test drive the new E class though!

Looks great. The only thing on the interior which I wish they had done was to make the door trim where the window switches are on the same as what's in the Centre console. Now that part is silver, the Centre console part is wood and the part with the seat controls is gloss black. It's too many different trims and it clashes. To my eye it is very frustrating. The previous model's Centre trim went in to the doors. Now, no matter what Centre trim you get, the doors are the same across all models. I think cost cutting. But it should be an option at least to make them match.

I think I would keep the passenger screen and use the Mercedes stars as screen saver 😂 . do u think the pas screen has a way to display a desktop background of some sort.i would think so....... another question do the brumster speakers twist out and light up like the s class?????

Raz, hi there, based on this review, and a test drive of the E450 wagon this past weekend, I just ordered a new 2025 E450 4matic sedan. I wanted the 2026 S580, but I didn't want to wait, so I think this will be a good in-between until the 2026 S Class refresh comes to market. I ordered a 2021 S580 4matic, based on your review of that car's refresh. I have had 3 E Classes and 3 S Classes. I'm looking forward to the new E, until I can get into a 2026 S. Thank you for your thorough reviews, they are always helpful. Appreciate your work on the channel.

Is the 2024 E450 petrol available in the UK? I can't find the car you've reviewed anywhere. Even when I go to the official merc website to build one, they only show the E450d as the 3.0L engines.

Thank you for the information. It's such a shame. It would have been great to have the petrol version in the UK. Was looking into buying this vehicle, but I'm not sure how I feel about all that AI tech watching me. Feels like an invasion of my privacy. It's a beautiful looking car, design wise they've knocked it out the park!

German car tech of the last, say, 10-15 years is notoriously unreliable. And just bad. Rather go and buy yourself any Japanese cheap car, it will perform better than any of Mercedes or BMW models. These cars are designed to make you pay a massive amount of money for them only to break down soon so that you go and pay another massive amount of money for the repair, and so continuously. It's a "wealthy idiot" trap

theyve always had best in class cabin insulation. Their issues are more the creeks and crickets inside the cabin due to all the extravagant shapes they use for their cabins

Also the pops and bangs 🤪 I do think that there aren’t very many good videos about it on KZfaq and not a lot of sound in the ones that are indeed on here

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, it looks like the viewing angle isn't perpendicular to the surface of the screen, unless it's a very short person. Could be that they designed to screen to compensate for this. I don't think it's the camera angle. Not sure though

Mercedes should concentrate on hybrid. Plug in hybrid makes it heavier. Buttons missing. Not too sure about this.

I'm glad that they Mercedes didn't massacre E class like BMW has done with their 5 series. As usuall E220d will be volume seller for private buyers on many markets across EU and E300e can be perfect choice as company car on selected markets with good tax/eco beneficials.

The grill is very tacky, headlights so so, otherwise looks decent. PS I wish auto journalists would learn what the word 'profile' means . There is NO side profile. It's just profile! PS regarding the luggage shelf and rear protective net, they were always separate, you could use both or one at a time.

Great video, my favourite car & as daily, really think best on market. However my soap box &reason I wouldn’t buy saloon or even choose Mercedes. I believe saloons look better & you should have option world over inc UK for the traditional grill. Really don’t know why, been like this I am guessing over 15 years at least. Other than that best saloon on the market & sensible buy if you need to crunch those miles. But I’d want to see that pointed star on my bonnet

The exterior design looks great, the interior design team are really the best of all brands. About the 21 in. Wheels, looks great but not the best choice if you live in a crater & pothole infested area. That 6cylinder is an incredible engine. I have it in my MY2023 S500 and it’s buttery smooth in Comfort mode and in Sport + mode, it really takes off when passing on two lane roads, I don’t miss my V8 S-560 at all. Superb engine that 6 cylinder M256 and I easily pull 800km combined on a full tank of gas. BTW, that S500 engine is the same as the MY2023 E-53 AMG so don’t under estimate it. Oh, and about the upcoming E63, I’m disappointed if they they put a V8 in it. It really deserves that C63 4 cylinder so they can finally put the last nail into the coffin of the diluted AMG brand.
