Oh that sounds fun! They are so versatile! Do you relabel the weekly planning pages?
@Jessi_Plans_Life

@@Townsendhouse1 So I relabel the front pages with AM and PM Routines, Zone cleaning and zones, Inbox, school calendar, then on the weekly pages I label at the top appointments, family, meals, Home, to do, and notes. On the last column I put and Saturday and Sunday sticker for weekends.

@@Jessi_Plans_Life I love this! I have been trying to figure out zones this year for my home. I love the idea of having the different categories at the top.

Are your planning day, and conference day a no-school day? I'm considering adding these to my routine for planning and our homeschool.
@Townsendhouse1
@Townsendhouse1 Жыл бұрын
In the past, yes, I have had them be no-school days, however, my older two are pretty independent and still work on their individual work. My youngest doesn't take too much time getting through her work. So, I typically will "do school" with her first thing in the morning and then move onto my planning day rhythm. For the conference days, we tend to work on passion projects those days - which is helped by the conference check-in as to what they are doing. When my older two were younger, I would call it a no-school day. It is abbreviated though - I don't do any read alouds with the kids, and that takes up a large portion of our day because we are literature-based homeschoolers. But, everyone still does their own math/language arts, and my high schooler still does Spanish/Science. I have a video here on how to implement a monthly reset - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mb6aZc-pp76zcYU.html and this is an older video on my monthly conferences - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iJ-oYLCG3rLOmX0.html So, bottom line, most of the work my kids do on that day is self-directed. My older two understand what they need to get done, but it may be a lighter day depending on the month. My youngest I will spend about an hour on the 3R's with her and call it good for the day, but she is just 8. She may get a day off this coming year because I find that those 9-11 years require a little bit more guidance in our day to day learning.

I call it a no-school day for me though 😊

Reading log question! Do you keep track specifically only the books they are reading for school, or are you tracking every book they read?
@Townsendhouse1
@Townsendhouse1 Жыл бұрын
I try to track all of the books they read. I don't necessarily get every single one, there are times my kids read a lot of books on their own and don't even mention it to me, but I try to give them credit for all the reading they do in a year, rather than just what I assign.

@@Townsendhouse1, makes sense. I have been using just a blank reading log sheet with my kids that they fill out. My oldest son is such a voracious reader though that I don’t know if I would have enough space in my planner for him. 😂🙈🙊. In just the last couple of weeks he’s devoured 2-3 books in his free time, and we only finished school on the 5th! 🙈🙈

Watched this as I did some homeschool planning as well! How did you determine that Emma is an entire year ahead?
@Townsendhouse1
@Townsendhouse1 Жыл бұрын
Mainly because she took a full freshman year level - Algebra 1, US History, English 1, Spanish 1, Physical Science before what would have been her freshman year in high school if in public. This year she did a full sophomore year level - Geometry, Government, Biology w/lab, English 2, Spanish 2. I'm not listing her electives, but those were also part of the mix. If she decides she wants to do a gap year she can, or have an extra year of high school, we would just drop some of the courses off her transcript. If she decides she wants to do dual enrollment instead of high school courses, that is fine too. I guess it gives us a bit of flexibility. On the flip side, Jack would be in 8th grade if in public next year, and he will only be doing a couple freshman level classes, so those would count as early high school credits. We started Emma in kinder at age 4, so she has always been a year ahead. Jack started at 5, so he is on the normal path.

@@Townsendhouse1 ohh - I suppose it gets easier as they get older. My oldest is seven and this is our first year that we’ll have to count his schooling. We have a friend that is a teacher who will review his portfolio. But when people ask “what grade is he is in?” I don’t always know how t9 answer. First, I guess.
@Townsendhouse1

In the early years kids are typically all over the place between math/reading/writing so it is hard to place them in a particular grade level. It does tend to even out as they get older 😊 we just said "oh we homeschool" when someone asks what grade they are in. If I am explaining something to another homeschooler though, I try to give a bit more detail around what we are doing 🤣
