Nice guide. Like the icelandic start my self (being icelandic and this being one of the only statagy games its a viable option) and a little extra to know about the 1066 Haukdala start thay where historicly one of the main familys that brought Iceland under the Norwegian crown after a civil war called sturlunga wars.and if you start as them you are the only norse culture left (as the outhers have become nowegian,swedish and danish)so gives you alot more controle ovet inovations.

Odin's symbol is 3 intertwined triangles a sort of infinity symbol. Other Odinistic symbols would be, the spear, a one-yed man, the two ravens etc. I always thought the Swedes of Uppsala prefered Odin over Thor. Most Mjolnir (Thor's hammer) finds have been in southern sweden, denmark and norway as far as I know. I went to Uppsala a few years back, very impressive place, must've been quite the powerhouse back in the day.

Im pretty sure Hæsteinn didn’t do a war using the new CB, considering the neighbouring ruler to him is a peasant leader. It seems he did a Kingdom invasion of East Francia. I also remember seeing in the patch notes they buffed him a bit! 😄

They did, but I also watched it happen :) you're right though, all of the norse lords do the invasions WAY MORE

One of the patch notes said they made it so age wouldn't affect him as bad, but I think they over did it. In my playthrough he's 86, has been infirm since 80, but just won't die even without any health bonuses. He even still has a decent prowess, so I've been able to keep using him as a commander

I dont play the norse very often, and tend to play eastern Europe or somewhere in the british isles. This sounds like it will just be harder to deal with the norse now. They offer some pretty substantial buffs to the Norse, and thats probably pretty helpful going into mid game as norse. But norse already had a strong early game and this just makes them stronger... For everything else, this kinda stings a bit.

True. Also can't understand why games and general historians are neglecting the importance and impact of the people like the Bulgars for example... Is the ''Hollywood'' effect in play in every aspect when it comes to history??? In fact, now that I am thinking about it, the Bulgars are the most neglected major history player in Europe. If it wasn't for them, Russia would never had existed, Eastern Roman Empire (Bizantium) would have fallen way sooner, Europe would be islamic and/or the Ottoman Empire would still be holding the Balkans or even more than that! And that's just a few examples... This obsession about the ''Almighty Vikings'' is just getting out of hand.

They’re just trying to make it more historically accurate, as the Norse were innovative and warfare. It was indeed also hard to be an Eastern European og British Isles ruler in the Viking age.

@@italianspartacus nope, I think paradox did... Granted I'm not sure what they mean by "clout" but "conquest" feels like a levy size buff rather than what they gave it.

Shieldmaiden = house member female character must have 12 prowess. Costs 350 Prestige. Sometimes female characters with enough prowess AND martial education will launch special events through which they become shieldmaidens (or not, depends on your event choices). Special events for shieldmaidens in your court also (increase in their skills). They can gain all knightly traits - Blademaster, Berserker, Order Member if they have a martial education. They can server as Marshals. If you're Norse with the House of Warriors and Sea-Wolves legacies basically almost all of your daughters can become shieldmaidens (Craven, Lazy or Shy traits will severely gimp that tho but you can use hooks to make them accept). If your favorite daughter is lacking a bit of prowess make her serve as Chaplain (Asatru has the Recruitment tenet so while serving as your priest they get +4 prowess if they serve for a period of time) make her a shieldmaiden then replace her (she will lose the +4 prowess but will retain the trait). Mostly from what I've observed Shieldmaidens are more effective than your regular knights for some reason.

Hey I was trying to get the high sea kingdom was just waiting the 30 years, I conquered east Francia and the decision disappeared. Does anyone know why?

Probably because east francia isn't part of the tittle. Glad i read about your mistake before i made it. Unless the norse culture is advanced to high mideivil but thats pretty unlikely

It kinda sucks that you cannot really observe winter fully on the map by zooming out as the map gets coloured in. I would like to be able to zoom out far and still be able to see the terrain. Men-at-arms should also get a separate raise button, it is nice that teleporting men-at-arms are gone, but it kinda sucks that the game raises your levies first and then the men-at-arms, and I am not referring to the local levies.

Have to admit, i really dont get the mechanics of this duel system. They could add some visible debuffs/buffs for us to see after picking an option. I lost a duel with my 45 prowess character against a lowly 9 prowess dude. It makes no sense tbh. Correction on the north sea empire decision. You have to hold these 3 kingdoms for 30 years with 1 character. If you die and your heir takes over, the timer is reset. Anyhow, noticed this when i finally conquered england at my old age of 80 something. Checked the decision menu, it had norway and denmark boxes checked already. When i died and my son took over, all of the 3 kingdoms became greyed out for 30 years. The decision is somewhat pain in the ass with confederate partition. You have to be really careful with succession because if you have gotten enough territory to form empire of scandinavia (or your vassals have conquered enough territory to form it), the game might create an empire of scandinavia. In that case Norway, Denmark and Sweden are de jure part of it and you cannot form North Sea empire anymore. Truth be told, im not sure if its a glitch or bug but for me, game created 2 extra empire titles before i died and passed on succession. Thankfully it was after i created north sea empire. I also got empire of Alba? and empire of scandinavia where norway and denmark were excluded? It consisted of territories as Sapmi, Sweden and Finland. Complicated case if you ask me...

Norse pagan is the most fun to play in ck2 glad to see expansions in that area, but as is sits now 2 is the better game hope to continue seeing improvements.

The feudal realms of Europe were weak and divided. They’re just trying to emulate how the Norse took advantage of that by buffing them early game, as feudalism is op compared to tribal late to mid game

I understand where you're coming from.. But this is a minor flavor pack, not a full fledged expansion.. Why this is cool. Is that it is A. Out of the way, now they can do other stuff and it won't be a bummer later on. B. It sets a pace for bigger ones to come and C. Shows us that we can get these mini packs to flesh out cultures that maybe don't need a full fledged Expansion!

Better than some of the Stellaris species packs that adds one species variant, some events and nothing else for 10 bucks, especially since this adds several mechanics and upgrades to a popular culture group

Well, it's flavour pack for two cultures, with op built into them and nice UI. It's not like there are any other "northern" lords, only matters when you can suck money by making the country where the devs are op.

The only thing I care about is getting rid of those popups. How about something useful, like giving an option to actually choose a house emblem without this random only BS. Or at least have it so it defaults to the last preset? No, we give you new hair. I log in to my saved game, no character in the game has any hair. Good job. I guess I need to start over and sit here for 2 hours clicking away to get an emblem I actually like. Jerks.

Not going to lie, the patch and DLC all seem incredibly lack-luster and just plain weak to me. I do not tend to play in the north, nor do I use those cultures often at all. And seriously "Winter" should have been in the base game. Honestly feels the pre-order I did for this was a waste 😑 the only thing im liking is the new dueling content.

@@iulianju7893 i know i wasnt annoyed that those were dlc locked i might have been unclear. Its just the poetry thing is kinda lame if you ask me, and winter should have been in the game from the start, not patched in. Its also just not an exciting mechanic nor relevant as i again, dont spend much time in the north. I feel like duels are literally all im getting from this and that alone makes my preordering of the dlc completely pointless 🤷🏻‍♂️ the one thing im even remotely going to use was a freebie, and the rest is... Meh

@@revelence9128 tbh the Adventurer trait is kinda neat. The main thing I did in CK3 was slowly migrating from Scandinavia towards Jerusalem and beyond, switching culture, religion etc. Having a trait and a CB to encourage this roleplay is nice. but yeah, DLC is weak, at least it's cheap
