Hello everyone. It has been a while since we highlighted the old Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad. This weekend gave us the opportunity to do so. With my weekend being spent at the Schuylkill County fairgrounds, who's entrance way is built on the railbed, It was a no brainer to look for something cool.
Originally built as the Dauphin and Susquehanna Railroad in 1854, this was built to haul coal from Lebanon County PA to the PRR at Rockville PA. It would be reorganized as the Schuylkill and Susquehanna Railroad in 1859 and would run from the Rockville PA area east to the Philadelphia and Reading at Auburn PA. The Philadelphia and Reading would take over operation of the line in 1872 and it would become the Schuylkill and Susquehanna branch of the Reading. After a bridge fire near Pine Grove PA the road would be abandoned by the Reading. This was in 1939. Let's take a walk and I'll fill in the gaps. Thank you for watching. 7/7/24
