I recently found some Nosler Ballistic Tip 150gr, and they were rated at 2800 fps. It would be an interesting shoot-off, if you can find them.

Hi, I went to your website to get more information on this load and can't find much. Are you able to post all of the specs, like the B.C. (G7 and G1), SD, minimum velocity for expansion, etc. I have an 18.7 inch Ruger Gunsite Scout. Out of this rifle, 150 grain bullets tend to have a MV of around 2650-2700 fps (very loose average). I would dearly love to find a mono bullet that will predictably expand down to 1800 fps. Barnes techs have told me that the best 308 Winchester, low velocity expansion (1500 fps), comes from the 168 grain TTSX. They say their 130 gr. and 150 gr. loads fly faster, but require greater velocity to expand. By my standards (double diameter minimum) I think their claim is a little optimistic. I haven't even seen double diameter expansion in the 168 grain TTSX at 1800fps. Are you able to share any of your wisdom? Cheers!

@Yuk Tuk The 152gr Dual Performance has a G1 BC of 0.333 and a G7 BC of approx. 0.171 (G7 has not been confirmed with this particular projectile). Its low-end velocity threshold will be 1500 ft/s. That’s a fully expanded, petal shearing/base penetrating, and 100% performing Dual Performance as designed.

What is your best .308 / 7.62x51 ammo for a SCAR 17S?

Hi Dan, That weapon (at least the original military version) was designed for use with US military 7.62 ammunition loaded with 175 grain Sierra MatchKing projectiles (M118LR and AB39 military designations). From our line the .308 175 grain Sierra MatchKing (BHA part number D308N5) would be the closest match for it. That is not to say the rifle will not perform well with other ammunition. Typically the 175 Sierra MatchKing bullet is very friendly to a wide variety of firearms and varied chambers. It has an excellent reputation for accuracy and long range performance in 7.62 and .308. - Jeff Hoffman
