Everyone was asking about wanting to see the trail damage on our new Ford Bronco after we took it off roading - so we put it on a lift to show you exactly how bad the underside and skid plates look! Not to mention to install some prototype rock sliders from Next Venture Motorsports!

A few weeks ago I got a little rust in my eye from working on a car. Took three different doctors at three different facilities to get it all out (and it was pretty tiny.) 10/10 would not recommend. Please wear safety glasses, especially with all that mud.

Thanks for the post-crawl inspection. It’s good to know the Bronco’s weaknesses are before heading back to the trails. When working under your truck, you should always wear eye protection. The new sliders look great! Well done.

My stock Badlands hit on those same exact spots out at Sand Hollow. These rock sliders will be awesome and much needed over the stock sliders. I’d prefer a little further out to maybe 3 inch from the body so it could also be a step. The Bronco community definitely needs a fix to those cross bars. They hang down and get caught on everything. Excited to see Next Venture’s future bronco products!
@BuckingBronco
@BuckingBronco 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. A little further out would be good. Regarding the door ding mitigation, most car doors bow out slightly; it’s the rounded part that sticks out the furthest that poses the most risk of causing door dings.

some interesting things in development! Might just get those rock sliders when available. Skids I won't replace until mine are trashed, which is probably never as I can't wheel my daily like a madman and my name isn't Kevin, LOL. But little sliders for the shock mounts are very interesting to me, can't wait to see what you come up with! My Badlands will mostly stay stock, I live nowhere near fantastic trails and since it's my daily most of the time, heavy mods will have to wait until I get something else - if I ever even need them. Really interesting to see what parts got hit on those crazy trails and where some weak spots might be to be aware of (and in my case, either take the by pass or turn around). Keep the good stuff coming!

Great stuff! I was staring at your rear suspension every time it came into frame. Similar to my Hummer H3’s leaf springs. When I hear a big SLAM, it’s usually my rear leaf spring hanger hitting a rock. Similar in position to where the Bronco’s control arm attaches. Very helpful.

The only thing I found really surprising here is that Ford didn't put rear shock guards on it, considering that they designed and implemented them on the Raptor. Otherwise, standard low cost sacrificial skids & sliders, not gonna blame them when 95% of these are going to live in grocery store parking lots. Those new sliders look great! Big beefy pieces! Maybe offer sliders in the dimension shown in the video, and a second set that's another 1.5" wider or so for more hardcore crawling. Then we could get into some optional mounts for anyone brave enough to boatside their new Bronco LOL. REALLY hope there's at least someone who does it at some point...

The rock protection flung from your tires is a huge deal. The raptor has steps that aren't really sliders but they do a great job of protecting from that. I know because I can hear them pinging off the steps all the time, especially once I leave the trail and get on the freeway. Kudos for making these, a lot of people are going to save themselves damage if they buy them!

Great video...thanks for the underbody shots.. Am amazed how little damage was actually done...those creaks and grinds were disconcerting as he went over/through the rocks. One of the things you did to the Stepchild to reduce the chips in the paint was not adding to the underbody-but to do the bodywrap. I'm surprised you have not mentioned that the bodywrap will be coming up very soon to protect the Blue Beauty.

I really like the approach you are taking with the aftermarket mods and the Bronco. 99.5% of us won't even be coming close to the gnarly stuff you guys do. Kevin was exactly right, most will be doing exploration/overlanding type builds so catering to that market is perfect (at least for me) because that's what I'll be using the Bronco for so I'm eagerly awaiting what you guys come up with. I'd never buy the huge looking rock sliders on the Step Child, but would gladly buy the smaller Bronco ones in development for the added protection in a heart beat. Keep it up, like always, loved the video. As for the other question, I'm on team bolt on....i can't weld crap.

Great video, I love all the explanations. I have a thought about the crossmember and the fact it has pinch welds that create a valley in which you kept getting hung up on. This is more for the low budget people. Think stage-1 cross member upgrade. How about a UHMW cap that you could bolt on to get rid of the pinch weld valley and make the underneath cross member more of a flat plateau slider?

I think the reason those sliders are so shallow is because of how they’re mounted to the body. The wider you make it, the more leverage the rock you hit will be able to exert on the slider and it’s mounting points, particularly if you come down on a rock closer to the edge of the slider. You may end up bending the body around the mounting points.

@10:17 This is the part of the Bronco that gives me the most issue off-road. The built in skid for the lower trialing arm will catch on almost anything vertical and stop you in your tracks.

I think the sliders should stick out about 3 inches from the widest part of the door and sit about an inch below the door. This is a multi-use vehicle and many people use it for all types of terrain and activities.Close enough to step over but just enough room to stand on them while putting items on the roof rack yet still provides adequate body protection. Not sure if a kick out is useful for the Bronco like on an FJ but it adds a larger area to step and some extra rear fender protection. If not ideal for your build, they could offer multiple slider shapes and fill panel options depending on how the owner wants to build their Bronco (I’m sure you’ve already thought of this). Anyway, keep up the good work, sure enjoy it.

I think with that crossmember you just gotta have two different options. A bolt in option and a ultra high clearance weld in option. A lot of people that just dropped 50k on a bronco are going to be against cutting the bracket off the frame and welding or drilling a new one on. For those that are willing it’s a great option

As for the transmission with no protection, that would be a big deal for me because I won't be doing much Rock Crawling but I will be riding trails with fallen trees and logs with branches sticking out in all directions. I can see a 12" log with a 3" limb 30" long catching that transmission just right and ending my day fun. Thanks for pointing that out. For the cross member I like the idea of the U saddling the frame, but bolted straight through vs nutserts. I don't trust nurserts to hold under severe abuse. Maybe devise a way of sliding a sleeve inside the frame so the through bolt doesn't collapse the frame when torqued down. User has the option to weld on the U as well.

Regarding the cross member, I'd suggest replacing each cross member with a new piece that does not have lips and a "skid" plate to cover the existing front bracket. Wouldnt provide more clearance but could be done as purely bolt on upgrade(s) inexpensively. The drill/bolt options you suggested could be more of a "stage 2" upgrade for those more mechanically inclined and desiring more clearance.

Great vid guys! I have the running boards and they don't do ANYTHING for protection. Sad, because it was one of the main reasons I ordered them. Not only that, the gap Ford left between the pinch seam and the board bothered me so much, I had to hack 2 inches out of each bracket and stitch them back together with a mig to pull it up so no sunshine and that nasty pinch weld is covered. I love the look all in all, but I really wish the side window profile was about 3 inches lower and there was no "step-up" on the main body beltline toward the quarter panel. Ford set this huge slab of naked sheet metal just begging for a ding. It sucks because I waited a month to get the right running boards and once that was all over and I modified them for two days, they do little to nothing regarding protecting. Now, I am always worried that wherever I go, I'll walk out to find some dumb bastard with an old Vega or Pinto wagon has smashed his door edge into the center of mine
