This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I visit Castle Hill (located on the edge of the village of Woodgreen.... a couple of miles North East of Fordingbridge....right in the North West corner of the New Forest).
My 3 mile circular route starts at the Castle Hill Forestry Commission car park where I experience spectacular views over the River Avon Valley and Breamore to the West. I head South along a ridge and get to explore the earthworks of the ancient Ringwork & Bailey Castle before heading down towards Folds Farm, where I divert in to the countryside across beautiful meadows & woodland.
After spotting a pretty Roe deer in a field, I head into some woods & I pass around the edge of Frankenbury Camp (an Iron Age Hillfort). The route takes me to the back of the Sandy Balls Holiday Centre and then over more meadows in to the Firs Close Copse & Long Ground Copse Nature Reserve.
An uphill climb takes me up an escarpment, through the Godshill Woods Inclosure & back to my original starting point.
