I was hoping to get to Augusta and see you but not and didn't make it my wife and I have that stupid bug going around and definitely not going out to spread this crap. Well better luck next time. Hope your trip was good and had a great time here. Have a safe trip back and be watching ya videos. Thanks for the pointers I have gathered from you keep up the good work.

I see you have some trees and some scrub brush. Cut some of the limbs back and take the scrub brush and burn it in a concentrated pile and then take the ash and spread it over the garden area to help its ability to grow hearty plants and vegetables.

I bought my spuds at the store, a mixture of red, white, yellow and purple. I only needed a few of each and cut them up so each cube had an eye and let them harden off in the shop for a few days. After planting when they started to grow I cover them with a light layer of straw, and every time they got big I put more straw over and over, Oh and also I spread so worms and nightcrawlers into the rows, Had loads of fishing bait and they really helped the potatoes. The first time I got potatoes out of the beds for 3 years without replanting because I always missed some. In late fall I piled up the straw and it composted down, But getting the potatoes out of the straw was great, I just rooted around with my hands to get them.

Well done Tony, watching from New Zealand. Back in the 40s and 50s our Dad had vege gardens at our home and was always out there tending them, to offset the family food bill. I don't see this happening in the community much nowadays.

Tilling the fertilizer in is how my family has always done it and we have nothing but red clay dirt. Also about 15 years back my grand parents had wood chips and saw dust delivered and spread over their garden in fall by spring planting season it really helped! If planting tomatoes and peppers wood ash helps out the soil for them

A couple things Chief. #1. I hope Tanja is doing well. #2. I hope things are good for you in Maine this weekend. #3. Not being a gardener I had not seen planting of potatoes that way, common sense says it will work. #4. I’m getting “antsy” to return north (but too early). I know, that was more than a couple things. 6 out.

Do you do garden prep for other people or just yourself? If you do for others then have you ever had them complain that it wasn’t cut deep enough and how would you do to fix the issue or would you fix it? I had a garden that I had done for a friend and he said it wasn’t cut deep enough and said he wasn’t going to pay me for it. Now it was turned with a two row disc turner and then tilled after that in two different directions! This left it like baking flower down to about 8 to 12 inches!

Hey Tony. Loving your videos. Keep up the great content. I just purchased my first larger tractor the T494. I do not even want to use it, it is so pretty :). Do you have any recommendations for tilling when it comes to moisture. Should the ground be dry? Should it be slightly wet? and do you always recommend breaking the ground up first? Where I live the soil is a mixture of clay, some sand, and some rock. Any suggestions would help. Thanks so much again
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
It would be a hard question to answer, because every soil type is different from area to area. I will till any time I need to, but tilling dry will make powder and tilling too wet will make mud balls.

I am not a farmer but when I looked at your bed before you tilled it I guess I have to ask, could you not use your turn plow and just not go as deep and then go opposite direction and turn the dirt back on itself?
@TonysTractorAdventure

The turning plow height is set and takes a lot of work to change. I could turn it back over, but the tiller goes down about 8 inches.

@@TonysTractorAdventure I'll be looking at tractors soon for my retirement property. All my friends recommend 50 hp at minimum but these smaller tractors today seem to be very versatile. I don't plan on bailing hay but my concern is doing ground work on steep hills. Wondering if 25 hp will have enough power to handle the work such as dredging my ponds in the fall .
@TonysTractorAdventure
@TonysTractorAdventure Жыл бұрын
Pulling and pushing requires very little horsepower. It is all about gearing. When you start hay, you will need more PTO Horse power unless you are using equipment made for small HP tractors. Square bale and mini round bale. If you plan on big round bales, you will need a 75hp tractor for weight and PTOHP.

@@TonysTractorAdventure I'll be looking at the 2515 12x12 for more power on the ground and at the PTO.
