After a lifetime of Shunning Glocks, I bought a 19 Gen 5 basically because I've got a PCC that takes Glock mags. The grip 'hump' was beating my lower palm up to the point that it was unpleasant to shoot. I was debating whether to keep it or not when I switched the backstrap out from the medium to the large. Fits perfectly now. I hate to say it, but even better than my M&P 2.0. I'm a born-again Glock guy! Not only did the 'hump' issue disappear, but I'm now deadly accurate. The recoil and muzzle rise simply vanished as well!

You should for sure check out the 19X. No backstrap, no hump, and the full size of the 17. Also, 47/49 and you can make whatever combo you wish.

@@TheeGlocktopus you mean 45/49 combo, not 47/49. 47 and 49 use the same slide so you'd end up with no change.

Good video! Two fun facts: The G17L is about the same overall length as many four-inch barreled revolvers, but a lot lighter. Second fun tidbit: Someone on Glock Talk chronoed some M1152 115 gr. FMJ (the new US military load), in an older 17L and got 1370 fps.

17L Classic is out now, Gen 1 frame, 2 pins, no front slide serrations, no rail, very clean looking, only 2000 made. Got mine. The Gen 5 17L has a plastic piece in the front of the slide where the recoil spring sits, unlike every other version, which is steel and part of the slide.

Long story short I ended up with Glock 17L Gen 3. It threw me off a little because it has a G4 grip on it. Later that day a few hours later I found the Glock 17L G5 on Bud's. So I ordered it. 2 days later I picked it up at Bud's. I get the Timney trigger put in right away and it shoots as you would expect. The thing is a damn cheat code. I was drilling holes through the same hole in the target.

This is interesting! I know usually the long slide style of pistols shoot well. My M&P 2.0 with the 5" barrel and slide shoots wicked accurate and very flat shooting as well. I'll carry it from time to time, but even that is a little too big to carry consistently in various positions due to the length. Great for in the home and for ooen carry when I go out in the woods.

Very nice review. I especially like the distance shooting from a home defense. Newer homes have gone to open no wall for kitchen, dining, family room, and living room architecture. So this particular Glock 17L Gen 5 is made for this environment. I have a Glock 17 Gen 4 and love it. I will be adding this to my list of next firearms. Please do another review providing other variables for the home defense user. Great job, hiring?

Classic Fireams (here on KZfaq) did a test on how much barrel length affects velocity for 9mm Parabellum. "How Much Does Barrel Length Affect 9mm Performance?" is the video title. He quotes 324 ft/lbs from a 5.3" and 370 from a 8.3". The big gains end after 8" That's what she said. Now, this is obviously with a certain type of powder, and you could take advantage of a longer barrel with a slower burn, but there isn't a lot of commercially available ammo that is loaded for carbines and Robocop's pistol. But the added length will make it more stable.

Former USMC infantry squad leader turned weekend shooter, and I can say definitively that at this point, I’ve learned about 100x more about handguns and specifically, shooting pistols from you than the military; huge on rifle and crew serveds, basically zilch on sidearms. So just wanted to add in telling you how appreciated you are brotha! I was wondering if you would consider doing a review on a Gen 5 Glock 20 MOS. Was particularity interested in reliability and how it would hold up with an optics after a thousand rounds or so. Hoping to relocate from Clearwater, FL to the smoky mountains in TN this year or next, and that gun was the first damn thing I thought about when I was concerning what I was going to need for the move. I had just bought my 2nd 17L Gen3 a month before this came out! My timing sucks! The upside I bought the Gen 5 a week ago $640 BL.

I think the 34 and the 17L should come with the Performance Trigger standard.
@TheeGlocktopus
@TheeGlocktopus Ай бұрын
The performance trigger is marginally better than what comes in most glocks, however both of these are coming with the red label minus 4.5lb connector from the factory, so the difference is even smaller. If you want a true race gun or precision setup, you're probably going to go with a full single action conversion. The performance trigger is not really a competition trigger IMO. It's nice, but it's really to make your EDC just a little bit better but also maintaining that glock oem safety and reliability. The GPT would just add cost to something that's going to be replaced by competition/racers and not appreciated by those who don't know enough to want to replace it.

I would shoulder holster that size instead of hip hold. Maybe have the barrel going down more.

I suspect a 1000 round review will end like most other Glock reviews. I would like to see it compared to a 34 or 17 or any other competitor if a new shooter was buying their second firearm. Suppose a shooter had a really good cc gun P365, Shield Plus and they wanted a second gun for home defense, amateur shooting or a car gun. Is the 17L a strong competitor? If the new shooter gets some cash for an optic can they expand into that scenario? Is the 17L the best for the nitch?

My G34 gen 3 is excellent, it’s my home defense pistol. The only thing I have done to is the sights replacement and added an Olight. Very accurate and reliable.

Then you are the oddity. I had 2 different ones they both failed with in 8 months. They have garbage smart chips in them to prevent over charging and eventually don't allow charging at all even with new batteries. Just get yourself an X300U and do it right.
