First real-life Autobahn acceleration / Launch Control test with the all-new 2020 / 2021 VW Golf 8 GTI powered by a revised 2.0 TSI delivering 245 hp & 380 Nm of torque through front wheels & 6-speed manual transmission. Outside temperature was about 30 degrees celcius, so far from ideal....but we still managed to get some very decent acceleration figures. But please watch yourself and tell me your thoughts? It definitely looks really cool in this mode, but I think it looks really bad in the map view with its creased squares. Super lazy design in that mode.

There are nice new upgrades, but I have to go with Nathan Mk7 or Mk7.5 was better imo. The design and that you had better controllability of all the components. Having everything on a tablet is just tidiculous unless voice commands work perfectly. You need physical buttons for different tasks! It was a nice way for VW to force the use of start/stop function by hiding it through several touch screen presses to minimize the pollution. Though it really doesn’t matter, because it used more fuel to start if do this in traffic jams or inner city.

You will probably say the same about the Mk 8, when they'll release the Mk 9, that it's a timeless design. Wait to see it on the road, and you'll definitely like it

Serban Mirica G8, tegG9? What are those? Can you elaborate. I mean i don’t say the car drives bad, but all these affect the driving quality. I drive a Mk7.5 golf R variant and i really love all of it except that there isn’t a knob to press or turn for volume on the center console, which is quite annoying.

Hephaistos The Smith look at the big german brands...they only offer manuals in the cheaper small cars. Ten years ago, you were able to get manuals in every car type for example the Audi Q7 or in big limousines

I think the front is ugly as hell. The Mk7 looks dated and the mk8 looks like a desperate attempt to solve this by using ugly thin headlights and not a lot else.

Was erwarten denn einige? Die jetztigen Auflagen sind zwar leiser als früher... aber weit entfernt von "leise" oder unhörbar. Irgendwann is das Reifengeräusch auch lauter als der Rest, der Motor/das Getriebe macht bei der besten Dämmung Geräusche und von ner Abgasanlage wird man immer das zischen/fauchen der Abgas hören. Abgesehen davon gehts noch lange nich darum das Autos komplett leise sind... in den Bereichen 0-100 will man den osmanischen Männchen oder Alman-Kevins mit kleinem Glied endlich den Riegel vorschieben und für Ruhe an Orten sorgen an denen auch andere Menschen Leben. Hätte und wäre auch alles nich so gekommen wenn genau diese Gattung Mensch sich mehr benommen hätte. Ne EGO-X oder ähnliche Klappenanlage mit EWG sind an Euro 6 OPF Autos immernoch brüllend laut wenn die Klappe offen ist, was sogar schon bei 70km/h passiert.

It was around the same in my Ibiza FR 1.5 TSI and also in the Golf 7.5 GTI Performance. For me it's a little bit too long to have fun. I'd prefer the gear ratios of the 7-speed DSG.

Danke für den ersten Eindruck. Ich denke dass der 8er GTI vor allem bei der Fahrdynamik deutlich besser wird als der 7.5. VW benutzt doch jetzt dieses System wo alle fahrdynamischen Parameter zentral gesteuert werden. Eine Art Mini Gehirn für die Dynamik.

Naja, wer fährt schon stock so rum? Leute, denen Fahrdynamik wirklich wichtig ist, bauen sowieso ein KW V3 ein. Da wird niemand Seriendämpfer fahren.

Ich bin für 2 Jahre den 7er Facelift GTI gefahren, das Serienfahrwerk war eine absolute Katastrophe, bzw. sogar gefährlich meiner Meinung nach. Es war schon extrem überfordert bei zwei schnell hintereinander gefahrenen Kurven (inkl. Ausbrechen des Hecks) oder bei Geschwindigkeiten auf der AB bei über 200 km/h war es so dermaßen weich, dass man Angst hatte durch Kurven zu fahren. Hab es dann direkt gegen ein KW V2 ausgetauscht, so hätte der GTI meiner Meinung nach Serie fahren sollen... Der 7er Golf war ansonsten aber ein super Auto, wurde nur recht schnell langweilig.

@@bitcointothemoon4153 Ich erwarte keinen High End Rennwagen beim GTI, sondern ein Alltagsfahrzeug was sich aber auch sportlich / recht schnell bewegen lässt und dazu gehört auch eine schnelle Fahrt auf der Landstraße oder Autobahn dazu. Und wenn das Fahrwerk ab 200 km/h so weich wird das man Angst vor Spurwechseln oder leichten Kurven bekommt (von Ausweichsituationen will ich erst gar nicht reden), dann hat das nichts mit Komfort zutun sondern ist in meinen Augen ein Konstruktionsfehler. Wenn VW den GTI mit 250km/h angibt soll der Rest auch dafür ausgelegt sein. Bremsen beim Non-P sind auch nicht die besten. War Anfang des Jahres auf Mallorca und hab durch Zufall den neuen Focus als Kombi mit der ST Line bekommen. Klar konnte ich dort nicht über 200km/h fahren, aber es gibt dort auch einige sehr schöne Küstenstraßen, wo ich ausgiebig testen konnte. War vom Fahrwerk wirklich beeindruckt, so hätte ich mir den GTI Serie auch gewünscht.

The backside is a golfball, but still, very sad. Turn off the displays and there is not much left to signalize its a GTI, especially with the new steering wheel that takes away the details of former GTI wheels.

Don Janek The exterior makes it pretty obvious that it is a GTI. Could be worse, have you seen the Mk4 GTI? It's pretty much impossible to tell it apart from a standard Mk4 lol

@@senna2 Completely true, the exterior is very nice, besides the fact that the sides is just flat without any highlights, which is a generally problem of Golf 8. I should have pointed out that i was referring to the interior only. But still, there is more than on the MK4 :) But this doesnt make me like the mk8 interior as much as some of the previous models.

Das ist doch aber typisch für sämtliche Marken. BMW, Audi und selbst bei Franzosen oder Japanern usw es doch genau so. Wenn man etwas außergewöhnliches möchte muss man zu Herstellern gehen die dies bieten und muss auch tiefer ins Portmonee greifen.

Hätte ja eigentlich nur zwei Wünsche bei diesem KFZ: 1. Ein schöneres Design der Leuchten und 2. Die Bedienung mit "Touch" und "Slide" ist viel zu kompliziert geworden, das war vorher viel besser. Zum neuen GTI: Die Fahrleistungen sind voll in Ordnung, da gibt´s nix zu meckern!

@@Automann-TV Bei 30° haben die wenigsten Autos ihre Serienleistung 😅 Von daher scheint der Golf 8 GTI sehr gut im Futter zu stehen. Beim Sound war VW offensichtlich wieder etwas mutiger - gut so!

Automann-TV Ich fahr 'nen Performance FL als Handschalter und wir haben vor der Optimierung 16,9 Sekunden (100-200) gemessen und der stand schon nicht schlecht im Futter. Gibt natürlich eine Menge Faktoren, die Einfluss auf das Ergebnis haben: Temperatur, Luftqualität, Straßenprofil etc. Aber trotz allem ist das schon ein ordentlicher Unterschied, da scheint der Golf 8 nochmal etwas Feinschliff bekommen zu haben. Weißt Du, was der Wagen wiegt?

Also muss auch sagen 15,5 (unkorrigiert) sind schon sehr fix für den "normalen" GTI. Bin gespannt was TCR, Clubsport, R usw. auf den Asphalt zaubern. Tolles Video :)

It is a Good CAR! I have been driven Golf (perhaps, the 1st Gen.) during 1988~1989 in Europe. Now it is already the 8th Gen. What a wonderful car for such long time!

Ihr seid mal wieder die ersten die den Sound gut rüber bringen. Mit den 19er Rädern ein ganz anderes Auto als bei der offiziellen Vorstellung mit den 17 Zöllern🙈 Warum macht man sowas??? Bin sehr auf den TCR gespannt, ob da der Sound noch besser ist oder nur die Endrohr Optik geändert wurde. Die Zeit finde ich für 30grad verdammt schnell... scheint gut im Futter zu stehen👍

Auch hier: Da VW nichtmehr an der Rennserie teilnimmt, wird es auch keine Straßenversion des TCR geben. Lediglich einen Clubsport und einen R (Plus).

There won’t be an exterior change if they do. And it’s not like they’re going to go back to buttons. To do that is admit defeat that they got it wrong and that it was a failure. In time more people will buy it. Maybe less will buy the gti. But the common driver will love this car. That’s where most of the sales will be anyway.

Fotomoloman Für einen Golf GTI mit OPF ist es tatsächlich ein guter Sound. Natürlich bist du extrem cool und kannst dich über solche Fahrzeuge offensichtlich nicht freuen. Ich fahre kein Batteriebetriebenes Fahrzeug sondern einen Mercedes E220 W212 und einen Mercedes A45 W176. Der GTI ist einfach ein Klassiker und rundum schönes Auto.

@@mikak769 Nun, wer kleinbürgerliche Mittelstandsfahrzeuge ohne jedwede Leistung und Emotionen fährt, der findet diese, wohlgemerkt kaum vorhandere, Geräuschkulisse sicherlich ansprechend. Die Fahrzeuge werden, um immer mehr sinnloseren Regularien zu entsprechen, immer leiser und die Gesellschaft feiert es immer mehr. Was kommt als nächstes? Keult man sich einen auf das absolut geile Laufgeräusch der Reifen?

Great video review! I really like the updated exterior design, but I just can't get used to/ or like the interior design. Admittedly, I have not seen the car in real life, so would have to wait until it is released here in South Africa, but from pictures & videos, the interior seems a downgrade in terms of quality of materials.

I said the same thing about the audi A1 but I fully changed my opinion once I drove it. So I’ll wait until I get inside one a golf 8 to judge.

We haven’t measured a 7.5 Performance with manual transmission so honestly I cannot really help. Maybe somebody else can?🤔

@@andrzeja3027 Yes, difference is huge. Golf 8 gti is pretty fast for 245 hp. And automann measured it on really hot day. So maybe it could do 15.0 at 18 celsius or below 15.

I work at a vw dealership, and I really don't like the interior on the mk8, steering wheel and gear knob is straight out of the t-cross.. the screen looks like a Nintendo switch that you can remove. Mk7 was so much nicer in my opinion.

The shift knob looked better in the mk7, so did the steering wheel, vw kinda ruined it in this new gen, hopefully the 8.5 fix does aspects

I would Always have a gti over an R purely because of the driving experience, I'm still not sure about the mk8 exterior, but the interior does look good. I'm not a massive fan of screens on dash boards but I think vw have got it just about right. Looking forward to the mk8 tcr.

@vaginapounderxxX If you want a car purely for performance then yes, the r is in a much bigger league than the gti but you are more involved with the drive in the gti, especially as the gti comes with a manual and the r doesn't (in Europe at least) in the end that's what swayed it for me, got the gti and have no regrets about it

Come on, let's be realistic; most of its competitors sound better. This 2.0 EA888 engine never sounded very good. But the exhaust is better than last gen for sure.

Das einzige was ich an diesem auto nicht mag ist dieses klavierlack gehäuse um das tacho/navi herum, sieht wirklich irgendwie nicht zeitgemäß aus und ist für mich persönlich ein absoluter killer. Da ist der neue octavia rs meilenweit vorraus 🤤

Great video! I just bought one, entry model with 6SP manual transmission, looking forward to take deliver of the car. I will use as a daily driver, currently I'm using a rs6 and it's just too much to use in a daily basis.

Man muss auch mal vielleicht ganz wichtig dazu sagen: der Wagen steht auf 235er pellen weshalb er natürlich deutlich mehr grip hat als die Vorgänger mit ihren 225ern. Daher ist der hier schon handgeschaltet eine Sekunde schneller als der VFL Performance mit DSG.

@@MrTARIQSs well that's how most people would drive though. Cruise my car in 6th gear 90kph+ and accelerate to desired speed without downshifting. Lower than that the engine gets unhappy. This with a golf 6 1.4tsi

The GTI loses power after 6000 rpm so for maximum performance that’s when you should shift. Great video!

To protect the engine been over-revved. I have a seat Leon and now a gti (not golf) that does this - well to 6500 anyway before it loses power.

I am very much looking forward to driving this new GTI. They seem to have made it more lively and quicker, yet more planted. This is not easy to do. As far as the interior, I have my reservations, but I am hoping the VW is committed to the software development. It is going to require a new approach from this old company
