Who else thinks we need some new color options thrown in the mix? We're 3 years strong with the only color choice being this Matte Pearl Blue... Don't get me wrong, I love the color but I think Honda needs to work on that one but what do you guys think?

I've had my CB300R since March 2019, now with 12K miles. Still loving it. There are 5 different color tank panels that are available from sellers around the world. Sure love the matte red in India. Mine is matte black. I've done a lot of mods on mine. Rizoma Race Retro bar, BikeTek 30mm riser pegs, Monkey quick turn throttle tube, and I slid the triple clamps down 30mm.

Thanks for sharing, always cool to hear from current owners! You're spot on, I've done that in the past with my bikes and ship over plastics in a color that wasn't offered here. That's one upside to the CB300R too is that you don't have a bunch of plastics to replace if you want to change colors so it's a heck of a lot cheaper than it would normally be. I'm with you on that one, the matte red is B-E-A-UTIFUL! Nice work on the mods too, that's a major part of the fun is making it your own with a few things here and there.

I have a 2019 CB300R ABS, I call it the big Grom. Light, nimble, sip fuel and does everything right. Only a few things I would love to see improved; - Slightly larger displacement to drop the revs down at 70-75mph. It doesn't need to be faster but sometimes I think there's an other gear to go up when I'm in 6th. That brings it to the second con.... - Gear shift indicator, you don't really need it but it's useful to reminds you that you're in 6th, often I try to shift up one more when I'm in 6th thinking I have to do so cause the revs are so high. (Larger displacement and shift indicator would solve the issue 😜) - The battery..... Yep, it's a pain is the ass. They should install a plug in outlet so we can charge the bike in the off season. Not everyone will be able to access the battery to plug on a charger. Every time you take that big plastic fake tank cover you risk breaking it or scratching something. Not fun or useful for a bike that is supposed to be a daily driver. - Color options, you are right. They should offer more options. This bike is a great looking bike, it would look great in that Rebel green 🤔🥰 That's all really, great bike for the money. Sold my 2017 FZ09 to buy it. Found out that I didn't need or like having a monster bike. Rather have a fun low cost agile motorcycle.

I think they should make a 400, drop the 300 and 500 classes, and keep the 650 (while lightening it up a bit) much like the current Kawi lineup. Then they'd be competing on-par with the likes of the Ninja 400/R3 and Ninja 650/RS660, respectively.
@HondaProKevin
@HondaProKevin 2 жыл бұрын
I like your thinking! The 250 / 500 and now 300 / 500 classes made a lot more sense years ago but with everyone else changing it up, Honda really needs to reevaluate their offerings IF they want to stay competitive... Otherwise sales will continue to dwindle for the CBR300R etc as its just not able to compete anymore against the other guys that were once in its class. It's wild how much these segments have changed over the last decade and the next couple of years will be interesting to see as I think the CBR400R that was recently announced may be making its way to America...

@HondaProKevin 2 жыл бұрын
@@willyjimmy8881 lol exactly! I didn't say I agreed with where things may be heading, I'm just speaking from a sales point of view as so many people these days will say for example: Well, the Ninja is a 400 and how is Honda going to compete with them only offering their small package in a 300. I liked it the way it was originally when Honda had a 250 / 500 / 650 and then you hopped up to their supersport lineup, you had a few options and each one was a good stair step from the next. Now, we're starting to blur those lines and some of them just won't be feasible to keep around if you upgrade the smaller ones too much because then what's the point of having said model. People decide how this all pans out based off what they buy and don't buy so it's going to be interesting over the next few years to see what happens with these segments.

@@igor1467 While I love that idea because that engine is a BEAST and it would be stupid fun! It's just too high strung and was never designed to log mile after mile without a lot of maintenance and upkeep, the amount of money it'd take in R&D to remedy that they could design something that would be an all-around better package while still pumping out some horsepower. Honda is the best engine builder around, they could do it if they wanted to but the do they want to is the question.

Heck yeah, that's the most common response out of owners! Thanks for sharing as it's always cool to hear real world feedback. Sadly, it all boils down to emissions. This engine doesn't meet the latest Euro regulations so it's not being imported anymore. They did just update the engine in India to comply with their latest regulations for 2022 among other changes so there's a possibility it may return but it's a long shot as I'm not sure how theirs compares to yours in how strict it is etc.

I currently own the 2020 cb300r and I absolutely love the niche it fills for inter city / near city riding; fun peppy little engine with enough power to satisfy my commuting needs. my only complaints are the fueling which is super twitchy at low revs and often feels like a lightswitch as opposed to a progressive throttle, as well as first gear being so short. I plan to keep the bike stock except for wheels for resale and eventual side grade to the 300l rally. This would give me a taste of different aspects of riding and not break the bank in terms of investment for fun.

I bought this bike as a second bike for short pavement trips near home because I have an adventure bike for longer trips and off pavement. The Honda gets way more use than my other bike now and has taken me on some mild off road and a couple multi day trips now. I love the engine and the weight of the bike. It's so much fun to use the whole rev range and all the gears and it forces me to be in the right gear to find peak power with the big bikes I ride with and it is incredibly agile. Now I want to increase the suspension travel and raise the bike by 2-2.5" I feel with CB500X suspension this bike would be a better adventure bike than the 500x because the 300 weighs the same as the CRF300L, about 120 pounds lighter. I want to find a way to get just a finger length more suspension travel front and rear.

This was the bike I was planning to get once I passed my test but unfortunately my test was cancelled twice due to covid and then the CB300R was discontinued. Here in the UK, you require a CBT to learn to ride bikes and lasts for two years. You also need a valid CBT to sit your test so I had to sit my CBT again, so decided to wait another year before sitting my test. I have ended up selling my SF Grom and getting the new Grom which I am loving so far, just a bit gutted to learn the new Grom can't be 181 due to the head stud spacing.

Oh wow, talk about some bad luck man! Hate to hear that whole mess kept you from being able to snag what you really wanted. It's wild how different the laws can be from one country to the next and here in good ole "Murica", anyone can walk in and buy a 200+ horsepower bike lol. I've seen first-hand how bad those outcomes can be from people getting on bikes they had no need to be on and can definitely understand a tiered licensing setup but having the freedom to do what you want is nice, there's no denying that. Heck yeah, congrats on the new Grom and as a fellow owner of the new platform, I feel your pain on the whole stud spacing killing some of our BBK options in the future. It's going to be interesting to see how the aftermarket companies out there tackle getting more horsepower out of this platform and just how capable it really is on making numbers compared to the previous gen.

The aftermarket for the CB300R isn't quite what the Grom is, due to just how stupidly popular the Grom is on a worldwide scale BUT this CB300R is a lot more popular than the CB300F which has led more companies to offer more products for these. Great video, Kevin (as always). This is my current ride, and I absolutely love it, although I'd prefer the newer slipper clutch on the US 2023 model. After a Rebel 250, this bike reminds me of my old favorite, the XL250R (I was a year early on that purchase too, since it didn't have the dual-carb higher horsepower, but still loved it). I guess I'm a single-cylinder fan at heart...there's something about those thumpers that is "charming". You're spot-on with comments about a wee bit more power, though - maybe 350cc or so, competing better with the likes of the Z400...having a slightly more relaxed buzz on the freeway would be nice. But still, it's a fantastic and FUN! bike. And now for the dumbest question of the day, or decade 😁 (I know so little about the mechanics of engines)...is it possible to replace the entire clutch assembly with a slipper clutch assembly, or is that a design that needs to be built from the ground up? Anyway, thanks for the great summary! 👍

We are so obsessed with making it easier to see the road for ourselves and that is all well and good but it endangers the drivers coming the opposite direction. Especially for me. everyone says its a bit lame to ride... well, fine but I dare you to find a better looking beginner naked bike... I had only seen the ones the MSF course had and they were beat to piss with most of what little fairing was there, removed because they had been dropped... then I saw a 2023 matte black model on the showroom floor and was like... "oh damn, that is a super good-looking bike" and put a deposit on one as my first bike.

This bike could be the next Kawasaki Z400/Duke 390 killer if they were to follow the formula that Kawasaki followed when they increased the engine size of their 300cc motorcycles to 400cc with no discernible weight gains, just a proportional 33% increase in power (aprox). Imagine a CB400R with 40 hp and still at "316 pounds (Includes all standard equipment, required fluids and a full tank of fuel)" making it a good 50 lbs less than the competition....with Honda's #1 build/quality/reliabillity/engineering reputation.....GAME OVER!

Why does Honda not make a V4 anymore? Fantastic Motorcycles !
@HondaProKevin
@HondaProKevin 2 жыл бұрын
Only the big-wigs could really answer that question but if I had to guess what some of their reasons are, it boils down to R&D costs and the way markets have been shifting over the last 10-15 years. I love a V4 but most people don't care if it's an inline-four, V4, triple, v-twin, parallel-twin or a single etc. You'd be surprised at just how many people that buy motorcycles don't understand the differences between them, us real enthusiasts do of course but we're in the minority. Building a V4 costs a good chunk of change and that results in it carrying a hefty price tag compared to a similar bike with a different engine configuration and if people just see price tags, they go for the cheaper one 9 out of 10 times and especially when the vast majority of them don't care or understand the style of engine used in the bike. Pair all of that up with the push towards electricity and sadly, I think we're going to see a lot of cool engine development go bye bye in the future just like what we've seen from auto manufacturers. Instead of creating new engine tech, they're slapping turbos on tiny / boring engines with no character while they bide their time until everything is electric. I don't know though, I could ramble on about all of this for hours but I don't want to bore you more than I already have lol ;)

I've been looking for a modern upgrade for my slightly retro-modded 78 cx500. I was leaning towards the 500x for the adv-ish feel, but this cb300r might be a better choice. Lighter weight by a lot, about the same power as my cx500, much improve fuel economy. Do you think this 300 would be a good choice for mostly riding in town and out on rural backroads?
@HondaProKevin
@HondaProKevin 2 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, if you're strictly staying on the street and don't "need" the extra umph that the CB500X offers, I'd take the CB300R to rip around town on and back roads with any day of the week all while keeping a couple thousand bucks in the bank that you were able to save in the process! You'll feel like your riding a Cadillac compared to your CX but those were pretty peppy back in the day so I'd try my best to ride one of the new 300 & 500 models before you pulled the trigger just to make sure you're happy with the overall performance from the engine. The 300 is a decent hp drop from where you're at now BUT shaving off almost 150 pounds makes a big difference in its power-to-weight ratio.

I'm only 60kg. and take off from red lights leaving almost everyone behind(unless there are turbo charged cars or much bigger bikes). It corners well and I do corner a lot. It's quite twitchy(trail only 93mm) at very low speeds and need some getting used to. Higher speeds are abut right in cornering for my likes.Brakes are quite powerful. Handlebars are too wide for my small frame and give me a backache, I need to change them. I own this bike for just a month now. Good for smaller built riders. I lowered the seat height by about 2" as I tip-toed at red lights and felt unsafe.

I had that bike for about 6 months. I liked it, but highway travel was a bit of an issue. I had to rev the piss out of it. 😂 also no gear indicator, and vibrations were pretty bad. Your hands would be buzzing after a long ride, because it’s a single cylinder. Lastly, you’re gonna want to replace the chain and sprockets. The stock one had the chain rattling, even if you tightened it, it would rattle like a motherfucker. The only way to fix that was to replace the back sprocket.

A couple years later - I traded in my 2017 CB300F ABS in Silver / Neon for a new 2024 CB300R ABS in Pearl Dusk Yellow. I like it. In 2023 Honda made some tweaks to the engine to make it compliant with stricter Euro 5 emission standards, added a gear indicator to the digital display, and a slipper clutch to help with downshifting (which is really smooth). These have now flowed into the US market. It now comes in two colors - Yellow or Black. As you note, the frame is completely redesigned from the predecessor CB300F and CBR300R and it's a little over 30 lbs lighter. The result is that it's really nimble. The CB300F fealt a bit more planted, the CB300R feels more flickable, a bit more fun. The new seat is definitely more comfortable and is a big improvement over the earlier CB300F (which, after an hour and a half in the saddle, felt like sitting on a board). Honda also improved the kickstand height / angle. The only cons I've found with the CB300R are 1) The screen of the digital display is very soft plastic and scratches easily if you so much as touch it with a key. This is an issue because the key hole is right below it. (I bought a clear aftermarket gauge protector for $9, which seems to work); 2) One's right heal hits / rests against the exhaust cover if you try to flat-foot the peg (I got used to this almost immediately and naturally adjusted my foot angle); 3) Having to remove the tank shroud to access the battery (not that big a deal in practice in your own garage, just something you have to plan for. The tank is on a hinge and the battery cover flips up to provide a prop for it, which helps); 4) Having to disconnect the negative battery cable (after removing the tank shroud and raising the tank) in order to remove a plastic safety plate in order to access the positive terminal (This one seems like a needless pain, safety over-kill - you actually have to disconnect the battery (requiring a clock reset) just to check that the positive cable is tight with a screwdriver, something you should be doing a couple times a year. You'll definitely want to install an SAE Battery Tender harness on this bike). While the copper colored wheels are beautiful, any chain splatter and dirt clinging to it does show much more than with black wheels. (They wipe clean easily with a little kerosene on a rag and will encourage you not to over-apply chain lube.) Those few cons all relatively trivial in the overall scheme of things and are dwarfed by the many pros. All in all, the CB300 is a great platform and the newer CB300R is a wonderfully fun and flickable bike to ride on back twisty roads. Its got a smooth power band and delivers 75 or 80 mph on a highway when it needs to.
