Nate circumstances beyond my control have me having to do my yard work. I figured how hard can it be? Well this trimmer had me ready to cry cause i couldn't figure out how to reload the string. A great big thank you for taking the time to show me/us how.
@a1930ford3 жыл бұрын
LOL! Not at you, but with your plight. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have had a yard man do my mowing and edging for the past 3 years, because I simply could not bend over or stand all that long. Well, he passed away with a heart attack this past week and I ended up having to get a riding lawn mower and a new trimmer. Heck, I just had a whole new front yard of sod lain, so now I have to water twice a day or more often, as well. I got this particular trimmer, as the batteries also work in many of my DeWalt tools. Also, it is light weight and that helps keep my arms from hurting when in use like my old trimmer did. Yup, life's circumstances can change in a heartbeat for all of us. When my yard man passed away, I lost a very good and trusted friend. I'm back to trying to beat the heat and humidity in Texas and get my yardwork done on my own these days. Some days it is easier than others. Glad to have viewed this video as the manual is pretty bad in my opinion.

My grass trimmer sat in my garage for over a year, before I found your tutorial, massive help... thank you
@jonathankirkendoll-jf3sk Жыл бұрын
You don’t have to take the cap off. There’s an arrow on the top of the rotor (between the rotor and the guard). Line that up with one of the holes and slide the string in until there’s an equal amount on each side and then twist the cap until the string is the right length.
@maryjager17573 жыл бұрын
Thanks Nate, I just searched my entire house for the instructions and fortunately found your tutorial for the exact same model I have. The only better thing that can happen now is if you would come and trim for me. Thanks

Thank you so much for this. My dewalt is a DCST920 and a type 4. The type 4 is the important part to look for when getting help because there are various DCST920's out there. After no success watching other videos I realized the head was different and then realized it was a type 4. Your video was right on the mark and your Dewalt was exactly the one I had. Great instructions!

This may be an "old" video but I want you to know it helped me. I think I got mine restrung in just under 4:20 seconds. Great help, many thanks!
@lyndabuchholz1216 Жыл бұрын
I bought mine about 3 or 4 years ago and struggle to get it restrung. I contacted Dewalt and they suck with this particular weed trimmer. They finally found what I think are the right directions. It says to use 25 feet of string but I can't get mine to turn to wind that string on. I suspect there is gunk in there somewhere but can't find directions to get it apart to clean it. Your directions are great!! My weed eater isn't.

Such simple instructions. Even the photos in the Dewalt manual are foreign. Thanks for your video. The trimmer has never worked this well.

Upgraded my Dewalt 20V DCST920 with an Echo Speed Feed 400 from Home Depot (local, here in Collingwood, ONtario). Easy to switch out directly, no need for all that included washer/spindle/nuts/bolts interface set that’s included. Most happy and grateful. I owe it all to the youtube content experts in this forum. Biggest thanks!

For the last 18 months I've not let the lawn crew edge or use a weed eater in my back yard. kzfaq.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG I didn't like the fact that they just kept cutting the edge of the lawn further and further from the rock lining the flower beds and leaving bare ground. And the grass was trimmed or scalped several feet around trees, etc. It was a constant battle with them so I told them to just mow and no trimming. I have Zoysia grass so it grows pretty slow. Obviously after a while it could use some trimming. I'm in my 80's so I can't do much of it myself.Finally I decided that if I could find a lightweight battery powered trimmer I might be able to do some light trimming. I decided to buy the LST201 20V trimmer. And it works great for my needs. I have back yard with about 150' of flower beds and several trees to be trimmed. I can lightly trim the whole yard with a single charge! The grass I trimmed was only a few inches high but the trimmer was more powerful than I expected.

Thanks for the share! Dewalt's manual shows a completely different head attachment and generally speaking, it shouldn't be tough to put string a trimmer :). They definitely made it slightly more challenging than normal but the trimmer works great especially for 20V.

Awesome and helpful video! I used the next size up on string, .095 IIRC, and was still able to spool about 10 feet of it with no problem when it came time to feed it out. You may be shorting yourself by several months worth of string.
@ruffus80394 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. Made putting on new line easy as pie. Put some stuff I had laying around from my last trimmer. Force 0.095 line. This things a beast now & hurts if your wearing shorts. Cuts through thick weeds almost like a solid blade. Gotta admit though, factory line lasted a helluva long time. Hope this last even half as long. BTW I spooled on 12 feet.

Thanks for your excellent how-to, I ended up with one of the dreaded 'Type 4's, with undivided spool, and after a season it did get all snarled up and tangled between layers, but I think a lot of that was just old line, I replaced with some genuine new DeWalt black and yellow braided line, nice and relaxed, and followed your instructions... seems to be working perfectly again.

A lot of people are doing this the same as in the video but it's a but extra to do it this way. If you just place the cap back on after putting the string thru the holes then you can just hold the whole cap assembly and spin the base plate to wind the string. That is why everyone is arguing all over the internet about clockwise vs counter-clockwise. BOTH are correct. you can either rotate the head clockwise while using your nail trick or holding the base plate with your other hand or you can hold the removable cap once you snap it in place and spin the base plate counter-clockwise. Holding the cap and spinning the base counter-clockwise is easiest imo since you don't have the string constantly going around while winding it up.

F.Y.I. The manual that came with mine (DCST922) says to: "Secure the spool cap from moving with one hand. Using your other hand, wind the string on to the spool by rotating the spool grip cover counterclockwise ..."
@nathangelaonline23914 жыл бұрын
This is the DCST920 Rev 4 NOT the 922. I have tried both clockwise and counter-clockwise. If you use my method and wind it counterclockwise, IT WILL JAM, So be sure to go clockwise as I did. As Michael mentioned, there are other ways to do this. Thanks for your input!

I used my Moms ONCE & this seems to be an Awesome Weed eater. First Problem with this Weed Eater is the F N Tabs. Even you have to use a Nail to assist in this poor process. I had to fix the line issue before I could get this Damn thing to even work & I was cussing it from the start. Didn't have any instructions so Yeah I was pissed at the spool process right off. Once I got it running and working WOW I FEEL in LOVE with it. Second Problem and I will be OK (once I figure it out) if 'line feed' How does it work? I assume like any other you whack it on the ground and it feeds new line. But hers didn't seem to be doing it. BUT I also didn't seem to need it for the time I used it and it was a complete battery worth. Which was surprisingly a good long run. Maybe I feed the wrong direction but I will figure that out next time I use it I will check to see. Over all this was a Very Nice Weed Eater to Use. Very Impressed for a "Someone else's Weed Eater". Look forward to using it again. How rare is that?
