In his Power On newsletter today, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman outlined some of the new products he expects Apple to announce at its "Let Loose" event on May 7.
First, Gurman now believes there is a "strong possibility" that the upcoming iPad Pro models will be equipped with Apple's next-generation M4 chip, rather than the M3 chip that debuted in the MacBook Pro and iMac six months ago. He said a key new feature of the M4 chip will be an upgraded Neural Engine that boosts performance for AI tasks, and he believes Apple will market the next iPad Pro as an AI-powered device.

@@klejind In my book a leak mean official documents from the company released on the wild or a source confirm they saw those official documents. All this channel do is reporting rumours. Its okay but they should say "rumours" in their video titles and not "leaks" because it is a false title and they know it.

I believe one reason they may be skipping M3 is because of the security flaw in Apple’s M series chips “side channel vulnerability”. Hoping the fix this with M4. Also SnapDragon is making things more competitive this year and Apple would surely like to push ahead of them even further.

I'm HIGHLY skeptical of the M4 being introduced. The abilities of the M2 and M3 have not been fully realized yet and they would be skipping to an M4... that would just be diluting value of upgrading any device just because a 'new' M Series is added. I am also still skeptical about the value of 'AI' within an OS. Sure a more generative version of a Shortcuts like ability to automate repetitive tasks within workflows would be nice, but do we need an entire new chip for this? Also, within current language models, 'AI' processing in general is VERY power hungry, so without it processing in the cloud anyway, something people actually care greatly about, battery life, would be negatively affected. There is too much hype going on around 'AI' right now with no clear path forward to how it will truly benefit the end user without just being a feature creeping function that gets in the way, like Apple's predictive keyboards, within an OS.

They want the AI to be on-board rather than having to go to the internet for everything. From what I’ve heard, most AI commands will be processed locally, and the complex commands will be sent to Apple and relayed to Google to protect your privacy. You need a good chip to process AI

TBH, there is not point for apple to use M3 on new ipad pro if they are focus on AI because M4 gonna have integrated chip for AI. I will not buy a M3 ipad pro that its AI is based on software instead of a faster and integrated chip build for AI, unless apple mod the M3 chip in new ipad pro for AI which I think is not gonna happen. I'm excited about the next iPad Pro but tbh I'm getting really tired of every single video (not just here but what feels like everywhere), starting with "according to Mark Gurman..." lol. The same guy who said these new iPads would launch back in March? Then April? Dude is shooting in the dark, lol. Can we get any other sources for anything these days?

Since the M3 is not yet optimized for it's smaller chip thickness, unless they plan to offer new firmware for the M3, their new firmware alone should be enough of a performance boost to roll out a new series, without much actual hardware design change. Now how about an M4 Max Studio this year? Please.

WiFi is rarely brought up, yet its the glue that will connect what is being hyped to be an ultra powerful iPad to internet networks clocking speeds up to 10Gbps. I can only hope WiFi 7 will be standard on the iPad Pros.

No M3 Ultra because M3 Max got no connector for Dual M3 Max. And I cannot imagine why Apple would spend more money than neccessary on M3 that uses the first 3nm node "N3B" that's a non-economic node. The next node N3E is way better and cheaper and is already in mass production since 2023 Q4. N3B is the maybe most short lived node ever. Only Apple wanted it. The "nodes" is the key for M3 and M4. And this is why Apple most likely will skip M3 for all other products. That's why we saw M2 in Vision Pro and not M3. So let's just forget M3 Ultra. There's a possibility that we will see Mac Studio and Mac Pro with M4 Max/Ultra/Extreme at WWDC. IPad Pro might even get M4 Pro! Who knows? So May 7 = M4 and M4 Pro June 10 = Max, Ultra and Extreme? ....let's hope so! All this is just based on what's likely. I have no sources or anything.

Yes/no. Most likely the next iPad Mini will have the same chip as the next iPhone so A18. Between fall 2024 and spring 2025. No A17 for iPad Mini, because A17 is using that expensive N3B node. I would say there's a small chip shortage for N3B and that's why so few products got A17 and M3. Only the best selling products: MacBook family = around 17 million units per year iMac = around 2 million units per year? iPhone (latest) = around 150-180 million units per year Mac Studio and Mac Pro are low volume products with that Ultra chip. Too un-economic to develop M3 Ultra when the node N3B is too expensive and when the upcoming N3E is better, cheaper, faster and everything you can wish. There will also be no iPhone SE based on N3B, that's why we don't have a new SE 4 with A17. Apple will probably release SE 4 with A18 in march-april 2025 so 5-6 months or so after iPhone 16. iPhone 16 is much more important than SE 4. So the answer to the question is when Apple can fit in iPad Mini A18. Probably only chip update and a new way of mounting the display. So expect a press release. Maybe the same thing for SE 4 :)

Snapdragon is nipping at their heels, iPad sales are waning, and Apple needs to do something with AI to ride the hype wave and satisfy investors. M4 is very plausible.

I saw a teardown video of the iPad Pro, the mini-LED display is thicker and heavier. I think it's one of the reasons why it won't be included in the new iPad Air.

Haptic feedback, been around a while with the slim pencil 2. Ai, not interested in text based... Screen is fine as is, not interested in camera position or magnetic charger... yawn... Only thing I'm hoping for is an improved OS as iPadOS still feels like a large phone/consumer device.

I remember my wacon cintiq matt screen slowly getting shinier with use.... Maybe after market replaceable is the way to go? Paperlike? Although i never bothered on my 1st gen iPad Pro as it didn't get used as much as I'd liked to have used it.

For the average consumer AI is not going to be a big deal. For businesses AI will be a big deal because it means they can have less employees.

Wouldn't it be great if Tim Cook held up the new iPad that looks almost EXACTLY like the last model. He then demonstrates new functions on it. Then at the end of a rather unspectatular presentation, says something like: "Oh, and did I mention it has a battery that only needs charging once a week/month" and throws an old charger on the floor and stomps on it?!? I hope now I can live long enough to see that day😢!

If N3E is cheaper but not faster than N3B, this makes sense: announce M4 for iPad to generate buzz, and conveniently all iPad performance comparisons will necessarily be against M2, not M3.

Apple can call any chip any name they want including M4AI chip. So it may be essentially an M3 chip with some modification for increased AI capabilities…

Skipping M3 because the M4 will be cheaper to produce. Only Apple was using the 3 nm fab technology employed for the M3; whereas, a number of companies are using the 3 nm fab tech used for the M4.

I think it will just be a specific m3 chip (with tweaks and add ons maybe m3x ) and that’s literally pushing it assuming they really change the chip that they literally introduced barely a half a year ago But M4 is very unlikely idk ! Though I would love it 😅 because I’m buying this one but if they really give it m4 I’m not mad it’s the cherry on top of the plethora of new changes

I find it highly unlikely that the new iPads would have the M4 chip. The M4 will be heavily AI focused and so will Apple's marketing around the new chip. They wouldn't introduce their "great AI leap" with a base level chip in a tablet format. I also highly doubt their related AI software features are ready. It's most likely going to be M3 for the iPad Pro models and M2 for the iPad Air models.

Although I use Ai at work (firefly/illustrator/PS) to help some tasks along... It's still not that good. I prefer the originality of me myself and I for personal art. At Ai's core and what i've seen it produce, it still screams fakery and six fingers if you're not careful. For the iPad, I'm not interested in Ai so it wouldn't be a selling point for me, besides they'll probably put a subscription on it due to it being cloud based.

I understand that apparently the comment section is filled with people who hate Apple and iPad and yadda yadda yadda, but I suspect what we’ll get is M3 on iPA and M4 on iPP. Why? Because it’s pretty obvious as the products have evolved that Apple envisions the iPP as a de facto replacement for the base MacBook which has been defunct since 2019 and the iPA as the de facto “premium tablet iPad”. From that PoV, it makes complete logical sense for them to do this as described.

Rumors Only the bigger 12.9-inch iPad Pro features the more advanced Liquid Retina XDR display powered by Mini LED screen technology. If Apple is committing to OLED on the new iPad Pro, I hope that both sizes are treated equally, with the smaller version also being granted the self-emissive screen tech. Have you heard this?

The only leak is the money burning a hole in Dan’s pocket since he needs news stuff to talk about. No one needs a more powerful iPad Pro. We used to notice cpu limitations before the M chips but not really any more except the 10’people who use Final Cut Pro. Apple is not doing the thenM4 for a better experience of all seven users of the Vision Pro (all KZfaq influencers by the way.). The only thing that will get me excited is if there is a new pencil that offers better feedback and experience then the current snot on wet glass feel that requires paper like to make it useable.

The advancement of technology in any field is always welcome. Nevertheless, I can't help but feel that anything with AI being a prominent feature is more of a turn-off than it is an enticer. I'll await final judgement to following the event as to how AI is being implemented (if at all), but without proper legislsation regulating AI by governments around the world, I fear what the American IT related companies will do with this technology. Google, Meta and even Apple et al have not demonstrated themselves to be the most scrupulous of companies. Hence why so many governments are now starting to clamp down on them - but not pertaining to the use of AI as of yet.

They could use an M100 instead of an M4, but if they still use iPhone software on iPads, it's just a test of the customers' intelligence! Having the price and weight (with the pencil and Magic Keyboard) as well as the performance of a MacBook Pro laptop, while using iPhone software (incorrectly called "iPad OS"), is merely a test of intelligence for customers who don't think for themselves. Apple has a historic opportunity to save the iPad (Pro) by allowing MAC OS (or some version of it) on the iPad, and if they don't do it now, it will be a big disappointment and the downfall of the iPad!
