So we are using a jack on loan from "The Tire Grabber" the company that makes the jack and the tire grabber 🤷🏼‍♂️😆 but anyways it works great!

That’s not really a con though mike you would have a skid steer for charging wheels most or all of the time anyway grabbing a set of forks too for mobile operations isn’t a imposition if your already transporting the replacement tires and a skid steer I do agree though the controller should be wired the other way but that’s as simple as splitting the case and moving some wires/buttons My biggest con is that top rail should have locking pins on the end and especially since your pushing and pulling tires a con to both deer and case both sets of lifts are dumb I’d rather see a set of lifting forks like a heavy wrecker for lifting semi axles especially if your not selling this as a on concrete only wall power unit for mobile use I don’t like the precision nature of the case jacks or the lack of any meaningful captive hold on the deer set if you need to do a infield change on dirt

Looks nice! I never thought about this problem, but it seems really shady to lift it on a single jack being that tall. Cool thing about this jack is that you could always modify or make new attachments to fit however you´d like! You could also make shorter ones, so you don´t have to remove them between the axles. Would make it a little harder to put them on the wrong way.

I only have 1 concern... It looks to assist in changing air up tires... Looking at the height of the the tires and the gap from the jack to the frame, the jack wouldn't fit under the tractor with a flat tire... I think it's strictly a shop jack to change inflated tires. Which is OK, because that's what I think it's intended. With that being said, great for that..

Seems like a male/female conical engagement set would be preferable. The simple pipe setup justs seems "cheap" and not conducive to easy mating. // The fact that the clips weren't engaged on the beam for the second lift makes for a form of unstable equilibrium. A lot safer to make sure the clips engage the beam flange.

Mike if you wrap a chain from the top of the suspension spring around to the bottom of the trailing arm, when you jack or or lift the wheel you won’t have to jack it nearly as high. Keeps the spring from expanding as you lift that wheel. Keeps the machine more level and stable. I could send you a picture if you’d like. We borrowed a jack very similar to that that a farmer had made. He put wheels on it for moving it into the exact spot we needed it in. Worked very well.

Its fairly easy for a heavy-fingered mechanic to grossly over-tighten stuff when using a bare impact wrench, weakening and damaging the studs. Impacts are mainly for removing fasteners, not for final tightening. You should get a torque-limiting impact extension (sized for your equipment and impact wrench) they're pretty cheap as far as tools go, basically just a steel bar of certain diameter and length that acts as a torsion spring.
@MilosHalan
@MilosHalan Жыл бұрын
agree, but i think Mike told they had torque limiter set on old Berta, i guess all bolts are torqued to right specs after few rotations of wheels by proper torqued (long pipe with key, knowing how Mike is freaky about maintenance. Plus, stripped lugs and broken wheel bolts are their everyday business, so I am quite sure right practices are used. just not all the steps of the tires change make it into video...
@TheDuckofDoom.
@TheDuckofDoom. Жыл бұрын

Question: Do they even make torque limiters that go up to 450 ft/lbs??? I seen them for smaller 1/2 impacts like up to like 150 ft/lbs never a 1" set up to 450 tho.
@TheDuckofDoom.
@TheDuckofDoom. Жыл бұрын
@@crandonborth Those studs didn't look large enough for 450, but likely a camera distortion. I would guess they make limiters in that range. My 1/2" torque wrench goes to 150 and my 3/4" goes to 600 (4ft long, but breaks in two for storage.) Usually large stuff (not wheel studs nessesarily) is given a base torque of like 80lbft to take up slack then rotated a number of degrees past that for correct axial strain on the fastener. And for precise large stuff (heads on a locomotive or generators in a dam) no wrenches are used at all. The nut is spun on by hand then a hydraulic stretcher is attached to the exposed end of the stud and pumped up to a spec pressure to add the exact pre-stress without friction-uncertainties and while stretched the nut is snugged again by hand, and the stretcher depressurized and removed.
@crandonborth
@crandonborth Жыл бұрын
@@TheDuckofDoom. Nice… and yes those sprayer bolts are very large like 1.5” we usually torque them to 450lbs or basically as tight as you can get them with a 4’ 3/4” breaker bar lol. It’s hard to tell on camera but those tires are over 7’ tall and those sprayers are over 30,000lbs.

A man with your skill and knowledge should be able to design a trailer that you could mount that jack on. . able to tow it behind a pickup or service truck to the field so you could use it where ever. You already have a self contained hydraulic system. Maybe a few hoses, ball valves and you could raise and lower the transport wheels and hitch hydraulically. Bet you or one of your mechanics vould design and weld it together.
