An uninterrupted reinforced jogless transition from the neck ribbing to the body of a sweater worked from the top down without breaking the yarn and without knots. Perfect especially for knitting with the yarn on cones - continuous uninterrupted knitting. Total control over the number of stitches - no guess work. Without a jog/completely jogless. Suitable for turtleneck and snug fitting neck opening.
Took me some brainstorming to develop when I worked on my sweaters. I did not want to break the yarn, and I wanted the turtleneck ribbing to be cast-on with a very elastic Italian cast-on method. So the rib had to be worked top down. But without the reinforcement the neck ribbing would stretch and loose shape. I also made it double-sided to wear the sweaters on both sides. Hope you’ll find it helpful.

Used your method on PetitKnits Louvre Jumper. It looks very polished and I like that fact it is reversible, as I like to wear my jumpers also purl-side out. Your explanations are excellent and easy to follow! I have watched other videos from you as well, very thoughtful. I love that you do not have background music, as this is not help a non-nativ English speaker like me at all to understand instructions. Plus, you write the important parts as text on screen as well. 💚💙💜🤎🖤💛

Brilliant! Are there any sweater patterns out there where this method can be used? My top down patterns tell me to do front and back yoke separate then join in the round ,then pick up stitches at end for neck. I would love to try a top down sweater using this method.

Thank you so much! I am working on a pattern currently - the green sweater and the red stripy one are the same. If you like to see it, I posted on Instagram work in progress. Otherwise I think any top down sweater or pullover where you start at the neck can be done this way. You just do the neck ribbing first instead of after, and then continue the yoke.

Dear Irena, thank you so much for your videos, you have so much information about details that I can’t find anywhere else! And you are so clear and show things so beautifully. Please keep making videos! I have a question for you; I am knitting a top down raglan sweater, I used a long tail cast on and want to pick up stitches and knit a small band of ribbing. Lots of the machine knitted raglans I buy have very fine ribbing on the neck, which I like very much. How can I best replicate this? The standard recommendation is to pick up two stitches every three but the ribbing looks ugly and with a smaller needle I end up with a tight band. Can I increase the amount of stitches but knit with a fine needle or what would you recommend, given that I am already half way through knitting my jumper (therefore cannot change to the jobless method in your videos)? Thankyou 😊

Thank you so much, Hanna, for your very kind feedback! You can absolutely increase the # of stitches and use a smaller needle. Plan A: I would make a swatch of the ribbing ~ 15cm wide using the needle size I like so that I am happy with the look, measure the circumference of the neck opening, and then I'll know how many stitches I need to pick up. Plan B: you can knit the neck ribbing separately in the round from Italian cast-on, then not bind it off but sew the open stitches onto the neck opening (like they do at the knitting factories). You will have a very stretchy edge. Plan C: if your yarn is several strands, you can use less of the strands (i.e. 3 vs 4) for the ribbing, plus a smaller needle size (this is what they often do in industrial production) for a neater look.

Irena, this is such an informative answer, I have been trying to work it out and googling but couldn’t find any info at all about it until now. Very excited to try out these suggestions. Thank you so much 😊
