Benchmade pricing still cracks me up. On one hand they’ll be happy to sell you a $500 OTF with a wiggling blade and D2, a $600 ballasong that flips poorly or $350 OTF with plastic handles yet they also sell you an extremely underrated 940 for less than $200 in M4. I’m convinced they do their pricing drunk.

Pretty much all the knife makers are doing that. The price of knives has become outrageous considering the materials used and the cheaper labor costs in China. I'm sure China is raking in billions just in knifes sales.

Dude, that Sencut is where it’s at for budget knives. People don’t give 9cr enough credit…it’s a *phenomenal* steel. The way We/Civivi treats it and utilizes it on knives with good cutting geometry, I get much performance that eclipses my typical experience with 440c. The Praxis and Ortis (also hollow ground) hold a fine edge better than some of my CPM steel knives

And the guy (Esnyx) makes some of the highest quality custom slip joints in the game currently (these are OEM by Reate/not his customs). Definitely can see he's been influenced by the OG Case and GEC patterns, yet still has a modern touch with the front flipper and materials; super slick knife indeed.

The tucked flipper on the Chaves is very reminiscent of the Lee Johnson (I think that's his name) design for The Hershaw NRG years ago.

What knife has the highest abuse potential per dollar? I'm a landscaper and I'm constantly lending my knife to my comrades, who aren't knife people. In an effort to save my blades (and possibly convert them) I thought I could get them knives of their own. The only requirements being if it's a fixed blade it needs to be light enough to carry all day and secure enough to not fall out. And if it's a folder it can't be scared of dirt/dust. If they could be made of adamantium and sub $100 that would be great also. Any help is appreciated thanks!

Can someone please tell me if the kickstop flipper rattles when the blade opens or if it locks into place until the framelock is used to release the blade, never had a kickstop flipper before.

@bamabladez I hear ya, I used to get a chuckle when someone would ask "what blade steel is it" on a WE! WE just came out with a knife not long ago using Vanax steel, the Hyperactive I believe! That's a great steel, but who knows if it's a one off or what.

@-Craptastic- I hear ya man. I agree with ya. I hate it too. Tbh I only own one WE. But I also blame US companies for not stepping up their game. Or quit taking their designs there. No competition for affordable pricing. No good manual folders. All autos or OTF. Or u have Benchmade and their ridiculous greedy pricing. KERSHAW was the only company doing affordable knives but they are stuck in the past with their designs. Spyderco is my favorite but they don't release anything new design-wise. I either quit the hobby or just buy what I like. I buy more as a hobby/collector. It is possible to do it with American manufacturing. Any US production folder made with new designs, materials, and features you're looking at $500-1000.

Honestly don't why companies still make liner and frame lock knives after the rise of "finger safe" lock mechanisms.

I still think linerlocks and framelocks have their place. They didn't just think of safety in mind when they came up with things like cross bar lock,tri-ad lock, button lock, ball bearing, etc. In some cases it may have been predominantly about wanting a stronger lock, or an ambidextrous lock, or because of weight or price or a combination of reasons including or unrelated to safety. I personally have only been cut a couple times shutting a linerlock, and when it comes down to it just gotta be careful. Any of us can get cut on a knife if we're not paying attention❤

Normally I’m not a hater of “plastic handles”, but the grivory on the Claymore looks so ugly and cheap that I was almost wondering if it was somehow a joke. It looks like a toy or a cheap prop from a movie, but it’s another predictably-overpriced blade from our favorite butterflies up in Oregon

Hey DCA, I've heard you say it many times that 9cr steel is basically the same as 440c performance wise, but isn't 9cr18mov really more on par with 440B? I know 440B has .75-.95 carbon, 9cr has .85-.95, and 440c has .95-1.20 carbon. They all share similar chromium in 16.00-18.00 , 17.00-19.00, and 16.00-18.00 but to me its the carbon content that aligns more with the higher side of 440B than the very low side of 440C. Are we just splitting hairs here or am I right? Or wrong!

Although I agree that in general, most Benchmade's knives are overpriced, but like DCA explains in the video, CPM-D2 and D2 are different in performance. One is powder-metallurgic steel (higher-end) and the other is ingot (the budget-end), with the CPM version having more toughness and better edge retention.

@cocomoomoo Thank you! I will take it into consideration. I might try CPM-D2 in the Kershaw Dividend since it comes under $100 when it's on sale. Just wanted to spread awareness of the differences between D2 and CPM-D2.

I've read some were that the so called Damascus steel markings on the blades are done by lasers. Don't know if that's the case or not, but seems probable. Because you see no layers when looking down on the spine of the knives..

No. Its been on Chaves site for months. It was a Chaves exclusive must be he finally sold some to retailers to move them along. He had 25% I think it was off around Christmas for a good 2-3 weeks. I bought one then but I got one of his chisel ground exclusives instead. I already had another of the kickstops that was an exclusive from another site with a fatcarbon show side.

@tgonzalez1983 Yeah but that's the Damasteel version. Usually those variants of a WE cost in the high 500 up into the 700 range! They're always like $250-$300ish more than the other versions

Idk who said 8cr is like 440C, but it isn't. DCA says 9cr is similar to 440c but I don't knw that I agree 100%. Hes quite knowledgeable but according to my research its closer to 440B. 🤷‍♂️

Sir I got a question maybe you're able to help me I ain't going to talk about tonight if you're showing here but I got a boot knife double-edge blade you know on both sides and I have a hard time trying to sharpen them and the thing I got is a hard stones and stuff but you put some oil on Sharp on them but it's a clamp clamp on it and that clamp will not won't stay on that stay on that blade please if you can help me out I need a knife sharpener sharpen at razor sharp but please if you have a late please send it to me where I was able to look at your sharpener the best one for that knife boot knife thank you sir you have a good day

I’m so over the ugly kydex sheaths. Such a let down in the look’s department, really is a detractor for the price of the knives. The whole industry needs to rethink sheaths, lots of innovation in the knives, but not the sheaths.

Sencut has used good materials on knives and kept it cheap. I’m really not understanding why they don’t do it more often. There is no reason at this point to use what they do on most of their knives. I love the designs but I just can’t justify buying them.

I’m really disappointed in the whole Kick Stop thing. it’s not really phenomenal in anyway at all. I think it’s sort of like a gadget, and I wasted a lot of money on a new version. I like the old version with the thumb studs but the new ones sucks.

I'm so sick of these over priced modern folders. From here on I'm traditional slip joint and multi tool only. They've worked for over 200 years, look good and are just nice and classy just like dad and grandpa carried. I also prefer the more simple and affordable steels instead of the overrated expensive "super steels" that are impossible to sharpen.
