In the video George and I take "The Stig" green laning. We head out of town and head for the countryside outside Swindon and drive along the history Ridgeway right of way. We use some of the off road features of the new Defender. We look at use the raised suspension and mud ruts terrain settings. We are off road novices.... how do we get on ? OK so this is not a severe off road test but it is a start !

Thank you for this series of Defender Owner Videos. They have been incredibly helpful in so many ways. I have always wanted the generation of Discovery you own but never pulled the trigger. I will probably purchase the new Defender SE with the petrol 4-cylinder BUT am quite concerned about it's durability in towing / off-road conditions. You clearly have no intention to 'baby' your new Defender and would like to here more of your insights and comparison to your Discovery. All the best.

Great video, really enhoued it. Go pro footage was really enjoyable. Lovely countryside I'd love a review of the different engine options? I know they said the defender was going to be all new but I'm sure the engines are used in other LR vehicles, I wouldn't mind a guide to the overall vehicle and shared components with others within the family. My last LR product was a new Discovery 200Tdi bought 1994 sold after 170k miles with no trouble in 2009, used it for towing a caravan and the work and going to / from a boat.

Well that's quite a big issue if the terrain response resets each time you get out the car. We drive though deep hot sand and will get stuck if we drive off thinking its in a mode but its not and I don't like digging cars out so much. I would like to find out why? I hope Land Rover are watching the Videos so that when I buy one its already sorted.
@gc2234
@gc2234 4 жыл бұрын
It's not when you get out of the car, it's when you turn the ignition off then on again. For emissions regulations or safety reasons or whatever, the car has to revert itself to the standard mode when the ignition is switched off. If you leave the engine running, then it'll stay in whatever mode you set it to. I think that's how all Land Rovers do it.

Loving your videos.. Really helpful and looking at pressing the button on a new 110 as my pcp ends in nov. I’ve got one of the very last Disco 4 landmarks and its been great. How are you finding a 2 litre petrol unit compared to your 3 litre disco? I like the idea of moving back to petrol (had a 90 50th anniversary v8) but wonder if the new petrol is strong enough and if it really works well in on/off road and daily life? Would love your thoughts? Many thanks Darren
@L663
@L663 4 жыл бұрын
The Disco 4 Landmark is a motor you may want to keep as it will be a future classic. I use the Disco 4 for towing sometimes and the 3L V6 is awesome.. but i struggle to get much better than 26MPG ( when not towing ). For me Petrol seems to the way the industry is moving due to air quality concerns so that is why we went for the smallest petrol... but so far the MPG is not looking good but the car is fast enough ! let get a few more miles on the Defender and see how she does..
@darrenrobinson781
@darrenrobinson781 4 жыл бұрын
powerfulukltd Thanks for the response.. Yes I have a large trailer too and use as and when required. The disco is a fantastic tow vehicle. Your MPG figures match mine and i’m used to around 26MPG, but it would be nice to get a few more MPG in my next car. Look forward to any future videos or feedback on the petrol and why did you choose the smallest petrol engine? Re the landmark your probably correct but Im not in the position to store and buy another vehicle. Many thanks Darren

Did you solve the issue of the settings resetting when you got out of the car, that would be a real issue in an offroad situation. As others have said do the land rover experience day then they will explain off road driving techniques which are quite different to on road techniques. When I started off roading properly I paid an expert for one to one training and it was most useful. I would be interested to see you do that route again in the Defenders standard settings as I think it should have coped with everything you went along in the standard settings.

Still just wondering though where's your video gone about that broken hose and the loose bonnet clips etc, that went into limp mode and where Land Rover couldn't fix it but you were able to? How does that just disappear? It was bad publicity for the new car, yes, but even worse if Land Rover have asked you or paid you to take it down! Might be worth taking it to a pay & play site to test it out as a 4wd. Generally green lanes of this nature are drivable in 2wd with road tyres. Most pay & plays have varying degrees of challenges, and are largely based on wide open areas such as quarries, so no serious bushes for the most part. Unless you head into the woodland sections.

I think most spotted it! its recommended a max speed of 12mph when laning, bikers, or most, go way faster, you never know what's waiting round the corner and I bet the bikers face was a pic! got to admit, I did smile when I saw bike go in hedge but at same time glad the biker not harmed. you've got to have your wits about you and keep your eyes well focused. look forward to your next laning adventure!!

@@453421abcdefg12345 true.... For 55000+ you expect better.. I mean how many times has the defender been back in to the dealer already and its brand new? The electronics and crap build quality will be the downfall off this, and without s warranty you'd be screwed if you had an issue.

@@KFUURE I have purchased newly designed products (cars and electronics) as soon as they are available for sale and you will always find running changes and recalls during the 1st year - the privilege of being 1st in line. The new Defender is being produced in a new factory with new employees therefore teething problems are to be expected. I required a replacement Apple AirPod Pro bud as it failed over a six month period. The replacement bud has been redesigned (the shell is stiffer) compared to the original. For $55K in 2020, this will be a good product for Land Rover as it is in a price point more people can afford. The market for the old Defender in 2020 would be a $95K vehicle (ala MB G-Wagon) in todays dollars.
