New hobby scrapper here...wanted to say I appreciate you Scrapitall! I love the way you demonstrate HOW to scrap everyday items. A lot of scrappers on you tube show their hauls to the yard and or collecting...which is fine...you educate. I agree with others--for some reason I find your voice and method soothing; easy to watch. I always take time into consideration when scraping. It’s really easy to make a $1 an hour on a stubborn piece of scrap. You gotta know when to give up and move on to something else. I’ve done every method because every winding is different, but air chisel is best. No matter how big/small or even burnt, it’s shakes everything a part
@scrapitall200
@scrapitall200 3 ай бұрын
My preferred method is cutting the stator in half with a machete then I pull the copper out. I’ve seen air chisels used and they are great. I have fun scrapping it all and as long as I’m enjoying myself, I’m not concerned about the amount of time something takes, but I know many do care about the time. Thank you for watching!

I don't like blades so this is a blessing to see! With any method, you have to build up speed and become more efficient. However, I didn't notice any editing, so it seems like it took you about 7.5 minutes to scrap 2 pounds of copper. That's about $24/hr. Not too shabby at all.

I've found that the ones that are heavily lacored you can take a pair of side cutters and cut the tops of the coils in the center. Flip it over and use a screwdriver or a small pry bar and pull the coils out. It takes a little longer but it also prevents the copper and lacor dust.

My preferred method is cutting the stator in half with a machete, works so good. This method is more about just trying new things. I’ve done it with two so far but most others it just doesn’t work. Thank you for watching.

I usually use that method ,but mine is methodically and up to the detail. I remove the copper winding ,scrap the burnt out winding and reverse unwind the remaining winding to a bobbin for reuse in making transformers or rewinding other motors.

You can use an air hammer with a wide chisel bit to cut the windings on one side and then pull the rest through the other side. No copper dust/loss and no using up your cutting disks. Time IS money, More time = less money.

That works but is a little slow and fiddly, I have found that a sharp cheap wood chisel, hammer, and a solid surface to work on makes fast work of it. Just shear(chisel) off one end of the windings and pull the remainder out from the other side.

A good way to do this if you don’t have the tools I just buzz the coil on one side then work the rest of the wire out. I have used this method for salvaging the wire for rewiring motors. Why scrap wire that would be expensive new?

Scrapitall I appreciate your videos, but on this one I just get a reciprocating saw and cut one side then pry the other side out with a flat head. The pain though is some motors have paper and string holding together so the slow part of cutting all that off takes time. BUT as I said, love your videos brother.

What do you do when you find out it’s copper cover aluminum wire? Do you separate them copper from aluminum wire. Or if it’s not a lot do you just add it to the copper pile?

haha, this new method is actually the old method, (essentially watching someone wind a stator, reversed) but as we enter an age where goods are going up in price it's a good tip to remind those who might not have the cutting wheel or need to work up to their expediting. I've even gotten to tucking away half-dollar sized 4" wheels just clearing the cutting plane of the tool to finish off eventually with a hand dremel. There is something to the practice of disassembly, time to think, time exploring mechanizations, maybe blowin off steam.
