I went to CANADA once.i told him I was from NEW MEXICO. They ask me for my passport. I told him I didn't need one .he Told yes you do. your from MEXICO. No I'm from New mexico. Its part the United States. He said what's the difference. You send me back to a country I was not born in .good thing there was a smart person working in Canada's customs.that day.

I moved from Atlanta to Albuquerque in 2020. Right before I left Atlanta I went in to the Post Office to put in a change of address and was promptly told that the Post Office can not forward mail to a foreign country. I advised her that New Mexico has been a state since 1912 and she refused to accept that. Her supervisor straightened her out about New Mexico being in the USA.

Yep this is true for me from when I worked at a call center. It’s surprising that a lot of Americans just don’t know that NM is a state.

I had similar experience when I Previously lived in Hawaii and Texas. I used to work at a library in Hawaii. Someone called from Seattle who really seemed convinced that Hawaii was a foreign country. She kept bragging about how cool her new phone was since it could make an "international call from Seattle to Hawaii." She just wouldn't listen when I explained that she had not in fact made an international call since Hawaii was a state. A few years before that I lived in Texas and a patron in the library where I worked there asked me if he could use American dollars in Texas as if Texas was not part of the U.S. I told him that he could use American dollars everywhere nearby except Mexico. That got the point across! A related issue is that I grew up in Washington State and I've frequently met people who think that Washington State is Washington, DC and will not believe otherwise, I've even pointed them out on a map to demonstrate that Washington State and Washington, DC are literally thousands of miles apart and on complete opposite sides of the country and had many people still insist that they are one and the same. Some people are just geographically challenged.

I believe it. When i travel to South Carolina nobody knows where New Mexico is. 😂😂😂😂 when i mention Albuquerque they think its in California. I gave up and just tell them I'm from texas.

My husband and I are about to move and when he put in his two week notice, his boss said “I hope you guys have passports”. That conversation got really weird and he wouldn’t admit he was wrong. Interesting when “patriots”’do not know the parameters of their country.

it was a bit confusing at first thinking about the existence of New Mexico, since a) I'm not US-born, and b) I haven't been to any state outside CA & NV during my first 15 years in the country. It only clicked when I decided to move to Austin, TX, and had to drive from LA to there & had to drive by the state. I might plan on visiting there in the future, as part of my "visit all 50 states" bucket list.

Of all people, someone in DC would not accept a New Mexico Drivers License. Do they realize that some DC licenses have the title "District of Columbia" and that one of the holders is a USA Today reporter who was stopped at the Orlando Airport TSA checkpoint simply because they could not recognize "District of Columbia"? I am willing to bet that those who are driving the cars whose plates also read "District of Columbia" are getting hassled outside the region. Anyhow, the DC DMV already changed both to now read "Washington DC" since then...

I mean....when you go back to when the Guadalupe treaty was signed ...1848... less than half of the new mexico lands from The rio grande to Pecos river ect ect. . . Were abundantly full of water. So, the united States only primarily owns new mexico. This is due to the fact that they couldn't choose pieces of the river as their territory. Over time the waters have all gone below the surface of the valley allowing for people to live on these empty water beds. Meaning southeast New mexico is still apart of Mexico, this part of the land was not resolved, but just buried to be forgot. . . Unity is all we can do on the ground level, but the power behind this unity will never be forgotten.
