New Mexico by Drone (4K)

A one week adventure filming New Mexico's epic landscapes with the DJI Inspire 1 drone and Zenmuse X5 camera. We traveled over 1000 miles through windswept deserts, foggy forests and snow capped mountains in the onset of a blizzard, pushing the camera and the craft to their limits.
Locations include: Highway 14 from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, Santa Fe National Forest, Enchanted Circle Scenic Byway, Eagle Nest State Park, Gallup, Shiprock, Bisti Badlands, and Historic Route 66.
Shot in 4K on the DJI Inspire 1 Drone with Zenmuse X5 Camera. Shooting Log with contrast turned down and the DJI 15mm 4:3 lens. Tiffen ND filters. Edit and Color in Premiere Pro CC w/ help from Filmconvert and Neumann Films Inspire 1 LUTs.

Superior drone footage! My God, the editing and, especially, the music...Beyond Enchantment. This should run on the Super Bowl. Who wouldn't book a tick to NM the next day? That first cut to the horse riders is so moving. Suggestion: on the final shot, as you're rising on the windmill, just as the spinning rotor starts to go below frame, do a matched cross-fade to a distressed version of the State flag with the its Zuni sun, animated so it's spinning in the same direction as the windmill was, but slowing, then coming to stop in its normal position. Hold for a beat on that flag, then fade to black. Killah!

Truly excellent footage! Nice editing and cuts timed nicely with the music. Music choice also very good. Was some of the footage from the area near the Bisti Badlands -- sure looked like it.

I'll be ordering my Inspire 1 Pro X5 in a couple days and have already generated a list of 20+ sites to shoot once I have my fight skills down. Hopefully the winter weather gives me a few windows to do that. There's some great scenery in my state of Utah...

l agree with all the comments stunning.!!!.video work.!!!.fantasic.!!!..what type of Dji drone did you use.?.was it the inspire one pro or raw.?. l thought 4k was a gimmlck using my gopro 4 black as l had best resuls with 720 p superview and 2.7k superview but not good results with 4k but watching your video.!!!.WoW.!!!.nice work.!!!.

YES!!! This may have just convinced me to upgrade to the pro. Great eye, well shot, fantastic color edits. Many of these moves seemed quite complex. Did you have the second remote with a camera operator for this? Either way... well done.

I am also very new to video so lots of questions. You shot this in 4K D-LOG but did you use any filters ? My footage look good on my Ipad air but when I download and play it on a PC with generic media player its crap. What would you recommend for editing on a PC and do I need to do any format conversions etc. I had been leaning towards Davinci as my editor.

+Epsom Rd Studios We edit and color in Adobe Premiere, but Davinci could also do the trick. Playing around with the color correction takes time, you need to experiment a bit to figure out your formula. As an extremely general rule, you will want to crush (darken) your shadows, brighten up your highlights until just before they blow out, and increase your saturation. But there is no magic bullet and each shot will need its own attention.

Was this footage sharpened in post production? This is by far the best footage i've seen with the X5. Most of the X5 footage looks more of a downgrade than an upgrade from the x3.

+Cory Cross No postpro sharpening. The X5 does have more potential than the X3 because of greater latitude, but that also makes it dangerous because people don't seem to be trying as hard to nail the exposure. Some people just look at the screen and if it looks decent they hit record. We always use histogram to judge exposure so that we have a lot to work with for the color correction.
