In this episode, I recover from illness in Albuquerque, then return the route in Abiquiu, New Mexico. Illness, dehydration and isolation nearly end the trip early, but I manage to find my resolve once I'm faced with a choice. Stay tuned to the channel for my next video, where I show the gear I used on the trip, including what worked, what I lost, and what I'd change.
If you missed episode 4, where I ride through the remainder of Colorado, you can see that here: • Colorado Highs and Low...
If you'd like to see some of the questions I answered prior to my trip, you can see that here: • Frequently Asked Quest...
Thank you to Tony Hase for providing additional photos and video (and for driving down from Minnesota to pick me up!)

“Trucks on triangles” I love that! My eyes got a little teary hearing the support from your parents and Tony. What an amazing village you have. It’s amazing traveling with you visually but also emotionally. It’s impressive how well you were attuned to your body and needs and how you persevered in the end, no matter where your “finish line” would have turned out to be. It’s an honor to call you friend! I’m in awe all over again!

I really enjoyed this series. So much, in fact, that I grew impatient waiting for this last installment. A foot injury prevented me doing anything intense for awhile, so I did gentle spins on my trainer, following your journey during my recovery. It inspired dreams of what I might do on my bike once I am completely healed. Congratulations on completing your epic, and thanks for putting this series together!

Very well done!! Congratulations! And looking forward to a gear video as that is where my mind began to question, “I wonder what [fill in the blank] she used?”

GREAT JOB ON FINISHING THE DIVIDE🎉🎉 What type ot advice would you give for someone that plans on doing the Divide ? Again thanks for sharing your knowledge

Thank you! Off the top of my head, I’d say that it’s reasonable to choose to ride one section at a time as an option. If you’re set on riding it all at once, make sure to plan rest days…maybe 1 full day per 6 days of riding. Take time to enjoy beautiful places, you won’t get another chance! Plan as much or as little as you feel comfortable…some people like to know down to the mile where they go each day, some-like me-like to sketch it out a day or more at a time.

Congratulations! In your gear video can you review your video/photography equipment and what editing software you used please? Or maybe a separate video??
@katrinahase
@katrinahase 6 ай бұрын
Yes, I think that would make a good separate video. I appreciate the suggestion!

I just watched all your videos on this trip straight through! I thought I was going to have a breakdown when you decided to quit. I’m so happy you continued. Now, all I can think about is doing the great divide myself. Do you think it’s possible on an E bike?

Haha thanks for watching and I’m glad you didn’t have a breakdown 😂. I’m not an expert on e-bikes, but I did hear a podcast about the “Octogenarian Odyssey” of Robert Fletcher who is riding an e-bike from Alaska to Argentina. You should check it out! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bZqUm8Kjm6qYiIU.htmlsi=T5iv2toW51u37JLF

Loved your journey! What size of tires are you running?
@katrinahase
@katrinahase Ай бұрын
I was running the Rene Hearse Fleecer Ridge (700c x 55mm) in the front and Oracle (700c x 48mm) in the back. I’d run them again…an aggressive tire makes a big difference! Thanks for watching!

Was days enough? Or if given a chance again, would you do it slower or faster. I was also curious about the bike you chose. The gravel bike over a mountain/adventure bike? I both, so I was curious as to which one to choose for ride like that.

I rode between 5-8 hrs a day, averaging almost 60 miles a day. For me, and this being my first big tour, that was fast enough. I would like to think I could try for longer days if I were to do it again, but who knows? I would ride a mountain bike if I were to do it again. Mountain bikes have more climbing gears and the shocks would be convenient for often rutted and rocky road surfaces. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s my gear video: Bike, Bags, Clothes, and Gear to ride the Great Divide from Canada to Mexico. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pOCEjLV5q8_Lias.html
