The new Qashqai brings the first deployment of Nissan's innovative e‑POWER drive system to Europe. Exclusive to Nissan and a key component in the company's Intelligent Mobility strategy, the e-POWER system is a unique approach to electrification by making every day driving exciting.
The new Qashqai's e-POWER system is comprised of a high-output battery and powertrain integrated with a category-leading variable compression ratio 157PS petrol engine, power generator, inverter and 140kW electric motor of similar size and power output as found in Nissan's electric vehicles. It's a unique solution that combines the enjoyable, seamless linear acceleration which is characteristic of an EV, but without the need for charging.
To meet the typical demands of European consumers and their daily drive, the e-POWER installation has been significantly upgraded for the new Qashqai. Where the application in the Note - Japan's best-selling car in recent years - is a 1.2 petrol engine charging the battery unit, and a final power output of 108PS. For Europe it has been upgraded to a 1.5-litre petrol engine, with a final power output of 140kW (190PS).
The unique element of the e-Power is that the petrol engine is used solely to generate electricity, whilst the wheels are completely driven by the electric motor. This means the engine can always run within its optimal range, leading to superior fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions compared with a traditional internal combustion engine.
"The e-POWER system offers the best transition technology between ICE and EV, allowing users to enjoy exhilarating EV driving sensations and impressive efficiency at an affordable price point. We're really looking forward to customers experiencing the thrill of new Qashqai's superior electrified driving performance - it's a perfect expression of Nissan Intelligent Mobility," said David Moss, Region Senior Vice President Research and Development, Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania (AMIEO).
Thanks to the pure electric motor drive, there's no delay as with an internal combustion engine or traditional hybrid. The instant 'EV like' response delivers exhilarating high torque feel and best level acceleration at different speeds to make overtaking or merging onto a motorway easier and more confidence-inspiring.
There are three driving modes on e-POWER versions: Standard, Sport and Eco. In Standard, the car produces excellent acceleration and lift-off regeneration is tuned to simulate the engine-braking of a conventional petrol vehicle. In Sport mode, the car further improves acceleration response with reduced engine off time, especially in sporty driving scenarios. In Eco, the car goes into fuel-saving mode by optimising battery management and allowing the driver to select a coasting model for economical highway driving. In all modes an additional B mode can be selected which increases the energy recuperation at lift-off, slowing the car more efficiently without the use of the brake pedal.
The new Qashqai with e-POWER not only accelerates quicker than hybrid rivals, but does so with a lower engine RPM. The system operates very quietly, much like a full EV, and is tuned for the best level of quietness and connected feeling when accelerating, thanks to a focus on keeping relationship between engine RPM and road speed connected.
Similar to the LEAF, the new Qashqai e-POWER benefits from an entirely new 'one pedal' driving experience called e-Pedal mode. Drivers can start, accelerate and decelerate using only the accelerator pedal, supporting up to 90% of driving scenarios.
In stop-and-go urban driving conditions, e-Pedal mode significantly reduces the need to move your foot from one pedal to the other by providing up to 0.2G of deceleration when lifting off the accelerator.

The motor actually doesn't work in two phases. It works between two compression factors (8:1 and 14:1) but goes linearly in between to produce the power needed by the specific effort. It also changes RPMs based on compression to achieve the best efficiency for each compression value.

Yes, and also, this isn't hybrid. It's electric car with range extender. They put in small battery and bigger fuel tank for the engine to charge the battery. Do think they should've put the same battery that Renault puts in their plug in cars. 9.8 kwh. That would make more sense with this one

The fuel tank is nearly 55lts same as my old Scenic, it's the usual size of tank average 53-55ltrs. Check the specs out first. You are splitting hairs saying it's not a hybrid, it is a hybrid using a electric motor with bty & a ICE, both are used to make this car work. Renault Austral has the same parts but they've decided to use the ICE & Electric motor to drive the car separately, you don't have any choice, the computer decides what's best. The Renault system has a complex meshing system that switches to & fro & it's complicated & they might have issues. Nissan's is simple in comparison & for me it's better, but they are just out & we will see how it goes. Both cars are hybrids having the same items but configuring it differently.

I ordered a couple of days ago & only a 2 week wait. Once you get the hang of brake charging it will click. On e-Power it brakes quite quickly & earlier. My normal car lights ahead red, then I'm off accelerator & gently using the momentum of the car & gentle stop. With Regen it must wear the discs out sooner & will have to learn to come off the accl a bit later as it quickly nearly stops then you press brake. The complete opposite to my normal braking. It will take time for it too click naturally. In town lots of braking means engine won't be used much only bty & Regen system.

Thanks Dan, I'm getting Acenta Premium, the lower model but will perform the same but doesn't have the power tailgate sadly. Still it will exercise me. Except for mways I will switch off lane assist & steering wheel monitoring or lecturing more like. I will drive. In the countryside the lane assist has caused the car getting confused & pulling you over too much. You drive you concentrate & the lane assist might cause some people to be lazy. Mway I will try it. If you drive then you should be aware not a computer chip.

The e pedal seems to be like a retatrder on a commercial vehicle or a coach. The technology has been in use on diesel electric trains for many years, they have a Diesel engine generating electricity for electric motors giving drive/propulsion. I was in Israel recently and most new venues lane correction like this and it was a pretty scary experience with the taxi driver letting the car steer whilst he was on his phone and sat nag and KZfaq lol.

Stefan 4873: sorry, but you write nonsense. Turbo engines are designed and constructed to run under any operating conditions. Particularely under the start-stop situations, which new engines must cope with. The 1,5 L 3 cylinder which Nissan has matched to the e-power concept has been rated as one of the 10 best engines worldwide. So I consider the concept choosen by Nissan for the e-power drive-train as well done and I have no doubt that this engine set-up will be reliable for a long time, proper use by the car owner assumed.

@@Fr-kw3cn 1. you put a ice engine, with bad efficiency in it (petrol) 2. you charge the small battery with ice + electric motor + dc/dc converter (loss of efficiency) 3. you accelerate only with the electric motor 4. if the battery is empty (like uphill driving, driving highways or "autobahn") the ice is permanently kicking in, because the small battery is permanently empty 5. you have a built in gpf in europe (needs to heat up -> with ice engine) 6. e-power makes no sense. the car looks good but no sorry.
@RedCnMn

@@r0ck3tdr1v3r this engine has better efficiency than any other petrol powered car. Ofc there is some energy loss when it goes from petrol to battery to electric motor but the upside is that you don’t have to charge it over half an hour like other normal EVs. Yes the consumption isn’t great when you only drive at high speed but for the city it’s consumption is top notch for a „hybrid“ kind of car. In the end it’s subjective and you have to find out if the pros weigh higher for your lifestyle or if the cons are outweighing the pros. For me personally it’s the perfect fit. Every car has some flaws but I don’t mind the flaws of the Qashqai

How reliable is this system long term. An "EV" relying on such a small battery pack have me filled with doubts. Are you sure the engine bypass the battery to deliver power straight to the electric motor as I can't find any info on this. The small battery is bound to lose its charge cycle lifespan and fail VERY soon if the car is solely relying on it.
