Vrlo lijepa prezentacija orgulja, kulture, baštine, crkve, mjesta. Vrlo zanimljivo i lijepo. Uvijek imam volju gledati duže bez obzira na dužinu videa. I poučno je. Rijeđe i ja sviram orgulje. 😊

I believe they call it reconstruction, because they have recreated the organ with its original disposition (and scaling?) that was once in place there, hence missing Principal 8. Not that unusual for Eastern European organs with a smaller case. The heights of the case could have been also limiting factor, at least for a full length 8 Principal all the way to the bottom C. I still think the sound is very wholesome, Portunal ang Gamba seems to be a pretty good make-shift Principal...:) Very nice, genuinely Bohemian/Moravian colourful palette, just love it!

My sincere thanks for your stop demonstration and concert. I confess I thought the specifications of this organ very odd, but I was completely won over by its interesting pallet of colours and the way you employed them. While the lack of a true principal chorus seems an disappointing oversight, the instrument proved to be quite spunky and expressive.

The problem is that it is not quite little: 21 stops. With this size, it should be based on a 8' Principal on the great as this would have greatly enhanced the effect of an otherwise very interesting organ.

I really love this organ so much I want it. It's so quirky with the choices of stops and overall design! Some of it kind of reminds me of "our" Iberian organs - lot's of bright high pitch stops, but very colorful nonetheless!

I found this a fascinating musical and architectural case study and not an easy one to resolve and to decide how to make the essential compromises . On the plus side the church is rather lovely and calm rural setting and it is not the place where you might find a new instrument - so full marks to those who made it happen. The use of marbling in a calm grey on the pine (?) cases is a delight and fits the rustic setting and the generally simple and restrained palette used in the restoration of the building. The placing of the organ in a west gallery is the best place for an instrument and the small peal division was neatly accommodated in the tower. My first thought was the lack of strong enough 8' Principal and wondered if the three 8' stops together would form a better foundation. 18thC organs in England always demanded the use of a Stopped Diapason (wood or a metal chimney flute) to support the Open Diapason which was often in the cased a bit irregular in speech. I suspect the problem of having a stronger Principal then raises the issue of a balancing with the chorus on the Ruckpositiv. Anything stronger would completely overpower the other manual. The stop which did grate after not very long was the mixture which was a bit like broken glass and everything sounded lacking in bottom! Strangely enough I found the 5 stop positive much easier to listen to, the Principal 2" was strong but it held everything together. I was so pleased you played the JSB so that we could hear the whole instrument and it worked well. I would still calm the mixture but every organ is unique, to its building, acoustic, architectural aesthetic and setting and has to do other jobs than just please the organist's pipe dreams. I was so pleased you had a good crowd to listen to you play and to bring a dead case alive with music making again. It has been a hot day in England 32C and our town music festival and organ week has just begun with 15 private gardens open to the public. Pleased to report 250 came to enjoy my little courtyard cottage garden - and what better a way to relax at the end of a long and hot day than you hear you play this evening. The bats looping and doing acrobatics in the garden also enjoyed it!! Interestingly you described the location as Moravia. The Protestant Moravian community migrated to England in the 18thC and it was attending one of their meetings that John Wesley felt his heart 'strangely warmed'. Thus began the Methodist revival and the writing of some of the finest hymns in the English language.

The mixture has a tierce rank - common in Czech baroque organ building - which might contribute to the unusual sound impression. It seems like a very nice organ, although maybe not as characterful as an original, and probably could also benefit from a meaner temperament.

The nearest i have been to hearing a Czech organ was at the 1650s Peace Church at Kreisau which was in sight of the Czech mountains. It was played by an organist from Prague who gave me a CD of music by Brentner of the Bohemian baroque. I was officiating at a German/Polish wedding in this Lutheran Church. We could sing Lobe den Herrn three languages but i was very amused to hear Parry's tune Repton (Lush 19th Romantic!) played in the baroque fashion with a different harmony to each verse! Your comment about tierce mixtures is interesting as they were the norm on English organs built after Restoration of Charles II. Our organ building before that date was insular - no mixtures, reeds or mutations. It had machine common with Italian 16thC traditions. Renatus Harris introduced these innovations from France and "Father Smith' or more properly Schmidt form Germany and Holland. These gave a very distinctive reedy tone (and as with the Cornet), may have been favoured to mask deficiencies in the reed stops at this date. Our organs did not get Pedals until the 19thC and handle could only practice at St Paul's cathedral in London if he wanted pedals! Mixtures of quints and unisons came in the mid 19th C when many remarkable instruments were built. William Hill and his sons built fine organ in a more classical tradition than Henry Willis. He tended to use a tierce in the bass octave 17,19,22 and then resort to clearer unisons and quints for the rest of the compass. He said the tierce added clarity to the bass but hampered clarity above. Willis always used tierce mixtures but his organs were much more symphonic. It would be very boring if all organs were identical and this one has a definite character and all the better for that. It also depends on upon how the organ is used - I am not sure about the liturgy of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic - how much is sung by choirs? Is there congregational singing of hymns or is that a more protestant thing? I am just pleased some one has brought a new musical instrument to this lovely village church! @@joannescouchet7038

I wonder, and I don't think I heard, what the 8 foot Gamba and Portunal sound like together on the Hauptwerk. Maybe you can find a diapason-like sound there in 8 foot. The Gamba seems like a very thick string to me, maybe not very loud, but the Portunal might add weight to it.

You can find it in historical organs around Middle Europe such as Check Republik, Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia. It having roots in Check Organbuilding tradition of 17th Century. It aparently coming fron Latin world "portare" - holding, holding main tone. Portun 8' is wooden and open stop, in small organs with stopped bottom octave. Scale very close to Principal 8' as well as character of thr tone. It was used, at the time, instead of much more expensier metal Principal.

Of all the various instruments that you have demonstrated so well this is the only instrument that I have to say I dislike. Perhaps it is the voicing not suiting the acoustic which seems quite resonant. There is not a single stop which even on its own sounds appealing. Sorry but that is what I find. I am presuming that the recording microphones were a suitable distance from the gallery and not up with you. I admired your genuflection on entering the church. In this day and age much appreciated.

Unfortunatelly, this is the style how organs are being built in the Czech republic right now. As much original as possible even if it throws sticks under the players feet. In my church they are building a similar "museum", kinda nonsense... It is a gigantic baroque church and we will have a 19 stop 2-manual.

The style of the console might be reconstruction of the original one. It is obvious, the whole instrument was rebuild from previous one, which were possibly destroyed in II.WW. It is very possible organ was rebuild via Historical Trust. When they are involved there are very strict rules.
