100 million Filipinos registering (assuming everyone has just one sim card/phone). I can see that website crashing a lot. Between E-Arrival card and this. That's a lot of personal information foreigners have to disclose. Silly.

I think what will probably happen is; Many in the PI will buy sim cards and register them in their name or their kids name. They will then sell pre registered sim cards to anyone. So if someone goes to the PI, they can buy a sim card from a kid on the street. Another thing you can do is keep your cp turned off and only turn it on to call or text. Also you can use your phone without a sim card, in a mall or anywhere there's free WiFi, or use hotspot from someone's cp.

What will that do? That won't get you around the reason they made this law in the first place, to make it easier to find those who make negative comments about the administration. Doing what you propose just makes you a bigger target.
@patricki7422
@patricki7422 Жыл бұрын
What will be the point in that? They will still be able to trace that SIM to whoever registered it and as far as the government is concerned, that's the responsible (liable) party. And since you just sold it to "anyone", it's on you (or your kids) to prove you didn't use that SIM for whatever they will arrest you for. And how many time can you register multiple SIMS before someone catches on, unless you're banking on the government to keep track with pen and paper in a logbook?

i have T Mobile , and it works in around the world for internet , Text , and phone calls ( 25 cents per minute ) but Free calling on WIFI calling , when i get to the Philippines my phone automatically connects to Globe or Smart , ( depends on the signal strength of witch one it connects to ) so this means i don`t need ,or want ,,, a Philippine number , i am curious as to how they would regulate this , Imagine a country signing a LAW , then making it up as they go ,,,, sounds like the One Health Pass all over again , that confused people by changing it every week or so ,

Hi Chuck. The main reason they came up with this regulation was because of those scammers preying on the innocent and naive. Thus this hassle came about…

And I totally agree with you on the one health pass being changed to e-arrival card which is basically the same. I have an American phone with an American T-Mobile SIM card paid for by a monthly service fee paid to T-Mobile. How does the Philippine government regulate that? I am a permanent resident in the Philippines, but if they cut off my T-Mobile SIM card (which I don't think they have the ability to do), I would have to leave the country and return to the US, because it is critical to use that phone to communicate with the U.S. I have a separate Philippine Global/Smart Phone, and I have no problem registering those SIMS because I rarely use the phone.

It looks like foreign residents can use ACRi cards, a good choice because it gives the needed proof of address where passport does not. But, as I have seen so many times before, they do not mention, specifically, SRRV id cards which have the same information. SRRV holders have a continuing battle opening bank accounts at certain banks, verification on wallets such as GCASH and obtaining credit cards, all of which accept ACRi but do not specify SRRV id as an alternative. PRA advertises to us that "no ACRi card is needed" so we do not get one, yet in practical terms, not having one can be a disadvantage. PRA needs to work on their end to fix this situation. As far as this law is concerned, SRRV foreigners do not exist, same as with the banks, e-wallets etc..

The problem is, it doesn't just ask for ACR , you must also have work permit or school permit. The problem is that many long stay visas or expats don't have work permits or school permits. Not sure why either of those is required if you have an ACR.

I have a globe postpaid; no problem, already registered. Yesterday the globe website was finally working so I registered my prepaid sim. It asked for a photo of my ACR so I uploaded a pic of my SRRV Then a selfie. Finally it asked for a pic of a bill with my namecand address. It worked, took about 15 minutes total. So, SRRV works.

I'm curious about tourist's sim cards only being valid for 30 days. I assume that means a tourist staying longer than 30 days will have to reregister their sim card over and over again, for the duration of their stay. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point it will not be free registration.

Right, many people here on tourists visas are actually residents. But they do let people use an ACRi card for an id and such tourists/residents all have them after 6 months so perhaps it is not a problem. I do see a possible problem with 1 year balikbayan visa people who normally do not get ACRi cards and are turned down even if they apply.

I think if you are a tourist and u have foreign # maybe u can used it in the Philippines but its cost too much like call and text. If they buy simcard in Philippines and registered is cheaper for them for call and text. I live here in Western Europe my sim card was registered under my husband name., maybe in Philippines is same way as other countries do . U can buy more than 1 sim under ur name. Registered sim card will automatically on the roaming when u are in the other countries but yes it cost u a lot too. But i think is not gonna he a problem if u dnt have sim if ur are a tourist bcos at this time especially is u are in the city wifi is every where and smartphone work with out sim card . The formal IRR (Implementing Rules and Regulations) has not yet been issued. It usually takes 2 to 4 weeks from the time a law is signed for the corresponding IRR to be released. Once the IRR is released, it is only then that the PTE’s will be given time to set up and test their registration infrastructure.

Yes, maybe the Philippines doesn't need more expats with attitudes, but you certainly have one, and I guess that's ok. People have a right to have an opinion. Expats are not used to sucking up to their corrupt governments, that is one reason they are in the Philippines or in other countries. Personally, I do not not trust any government with this information, especially one known for corruption. When the time comes, that information can be used against you. There are so many laws in the Philippines that Filipinos are not aware of that carry financial and criminal penalties based upon only what they say and their opinions. There is no freedom of speech in the Philippines. Now they will have a way to document what you say and communicate to other people. Australia implemented their SIM registration requirement, and it did nothing to stop scammers, etc. So what is this massive nation-wide registration system really for? It is not like the Philippines does not have other much more important life or death or infrastructure, energy, or social problems and issues to deal with.
