Thank you for sharing! I appreciate that you took the time to recognize Miss Patty's life. Nurse meant what we call 'Au Pair' today. I read in a book written by a freed slave, that there was a White man who was raised by a slave woman. The mother of the man specifically said on her deathbed, that she wanted this particular slave to raise him. ( I believe she died after giving birth to him.) The slave woman did. The author said the slave woman raised him like her own. She disciplined him, loved him and trained him with good morals. The man became a fierce defender of the slaves and would kill anyone who would try to harm them. The author said the man loved her as his own mother. So, I don't doubt this family held Miss Patty in high esteem. The gravestone is a high regard shown for her. Thank you for sharing this knowledge. I wonder if Miss Patty raised one of her Owners, and then began raising their children?

@Green Yoshi Are you of mixed race or just an outsider trying to look in?
@moniquewalker4763

@Green Yoshi You're interested in history but aren't making any valid points or facts, everyone knows that mixed race was considered Black, if you were mixed you got treated differently, not saying any better, but differently that the other slaves.

Taking photos with your slave was a way to show a family's wealth it has nothing to do with them being a member of the family or being loved and adored like a member of the family

That wouldn't be to far fetched.White men would take advantage in those days of their female slaves.That's why I'm running around here with European DNA and no white parent,grandparent or great grandparent in sight.It really screwed over the fabric of our DNA.

Sick how they do that, even sicker how subconsciously a lot of black people think Sally hemmons had it better with Thomas Jefferson then she would have had with any other black man of those times and they still won't fix their mouth to call him a pedophile but they have all the smoke for an R Kelly.

And I guess the Hanson/Hansen family thought this (being buried in the “FAMILY”) plot to be one of the goals on her (Patty’s) bucket list. YOU PEOPLE!!!! SMH

Karen Jennings The narrator is just a government hack who is trying to create interest in an old story - and whitewash it at the same time. He is a self-promoter for his office.

I wasn't alive in 1750, nor were our contemporary authors. Books are written to make money and sensationalism sells books. I know that Christianity was very much alive in 1850 and its doctrine of fair treatment was not, as today, a "Tweet''.

I believe Patty was a part of the family, and no one wanted to be truthful about, look at the features of her skin color (her complexion) and the texture of her hair (of a mixed race) she was admired, maybe loved from someone in the family. Sorry this young woman had to live such a life.

1839 and he acquired her?? I thought slavery like that stopped long before then?? Guess that's why Baltimore is considered the south, the effects of slavery plague the black community of Baltimore til this very second, I have my opinion about a few things and eventually I'll do a presentation nothing based in fact just my opinion on some things.
