Thank you very much Julian, for sharing your work on your great design; I have been following him since March or April of this year that he ends and I assure him that he has been a great inspiration to modify and complete my current design, which I started in the mid-80s and which is now taking on new life. I hope to continue learning from his good work in the coming years and enjoy my work with an industrial addition of a marked English character. Greetings from Malaga in Spain. Happy 2024 to everyone. 👍 👋👋👋

Great build Julian, I would continual the engineers brick along the retaining wall in front of the loco shed with a a few red brick repairs. + Maybe blacken out the roof area of the tunnel to add depth. You have churned out a video every 3.1 weeks. As with the visit with Paul, I was surprised how similar, you are both are not on age but on mind set. All the best for this year (now 24) to you & your family.

Dear Julian, happy new year! Awesome vid! Love the construction of the tunnel sub structure. As always to the micro millimeter! Beautiful how you made the tunnel section removable. Very interesting how you designed the texture for the engineer’s brickwork and absolutely beautiful how the design fits its space, how the up slope towards the abandoned viaduct is getting a true footing. Looking forward to your next episodes! Cheerio

More great work and I'm looking forward to the next stage. The small arches inside the tunnel walls are recesses for track maintenance workers to stand out of the way of trains passing through.

The inset brick section isn't an architectural detail. It is where the parapet goes above the ground level on the road side as fall protection. They save a little brick by reducing the thickness of the wall where it is fall protection rather than bridge structure. The cornice detail should approximately run around the level of the ground level on the road side. Unfortunately, as it's modelled, it has a parapet detail below ground level.
@StationRoadModelRailway
@StationRoadModelRailway 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for the insight with regards to the recess. I wonder whether the parapet detail at ground level is more relation to a bridge? If parapet detail on a tunnel portal was indicating the ground level, then the hill would be flat?

Thank you Julian, this was an incredibly useful video in my case as I am also approaching the build of some tunnels that I wish to make removable. Your box section craftsmanship is wonderful; I hope to emulate this as close as possible. The tunnel portal breakdown was really helpful and again something I will look to achieve, very glad that like you I took the plunge and bought a laser cutter. Hope you have a great new year and thanks for all the videos so far!👍

Ooooh! First comment! 😂 Well it certainly has been an adventure this year hasn’t it? Not only have you created some absolutely excellent scenery and developed that shed area, you even ventured over here! 😎 This new section is actually a splendid example of what I like most: the way you create each sign almost as a self contained, neat section in its own right, which enables you to remove the different components for ease of access and maintenance which is often the issue with multi-level layouts. I know people create cut-out sections, but I think your idea of fixing a handle and lifting the whole thing out is far better! 😉 It’s also been an excellent chance for people to get a taste and understanding for things like the Cricut machine and the opportunities it opens up for creating one’s own bespoke kit! 😃 My missus is sold on getting one for her displays and craft creations she wants to make, so you have helped us both (plus I no longer have to have the awkward conversation about buying one in the future! 🤣😂😅) and we have already made a note of a few things we hope to make! 😍 The way you build up the layers in your structures has also given me some ideas especially when it comes to retaining walls and creating tunnels and bridges. As for your not being a speedy worker, I say less haste more speed! Why rush something and regret something you missed later? 🤷 I particularly like how detailed and pedantic your descriptions are as it illustrates your thinking process and makes the viewer feel more involved in it, as well as revealing the detail of the methods you use. And there are always hints like the importance of ensuring you have ‘a chunky buttress’ for larger structures , which I shall bear in mind going forward 😜😂😅 By the way, re blocking the light: a friend of mine used this ultra black to line a tunnel which seems to almost absorb all light and genuinely makes it look like a long dark tunnel. Not sure what brand it is or even whether you could get it it in NZ but it has totally enhance the look of his tunnel by simply creating a card inner and painting a few coats of this stuff 🤔 Anyway Jules, I hope you enjoy your evening (it must be near midnight already for you!) and I wish you a fantastic new year! Iechydd Dda! 👍🍀🥃😉

That tunnel & portal looks really good. I found it particularly interesting what you said about the brickwork coming from a photograph of a brick wall you took locally, and then changed colour to blue engineering brick. Have you considered doing any photoshop for railway modellers videos, going through that sort of process? Photoshop is a beast that it's taken me decades to get to grips with, and I'm aware that I'm hardly scratching the surface, and so many videos are about mucking about with photographs, so there might be some use for a modelling specific video(s), covering things like adjusting brick colours, making the arch, with the bricks at an angle, etc. I had a quick look through your videos (or rather the titles & thumbnails - I'm still catching up after discovering you via Paul Apps) and couldn't see anything, though it might be included in those videos.

It's quite possible future channel content will include the odd photoshop (or similar software) video tutorial of how I created the brick textures I use.

Happy New Year, Julian, and thank you for this and all your other inspirational videos of 2023. I’m intrigued by all of you who experimented with HM7000 this last year. Is it something you now use regularly to control trains on your layout or was it a gimmick of the moment like a kid’s Christmas present which is used once on the day but never again?
@StationRoadModelRailway
@StationRoadModelRailway 6 ай бұрын
The HM7000 decoders are still on my radar and I've bought a few yet to be installed. I'm taking the approach of using the app for the initial setup and sound download, but then operating them as a regular sound decoder on my main DCC control system.
