I bought one for me and one for my lover! Kaiweets: If you are reading comments, here are some changes I'd make: First, the arrow that moves when in auto mode is distracting. Show all three arrows, steady, instead of animating it. Second, I shouldn't have to unplug the probes to put the meter back in the case. I ended up tossing the case (and the rubber protective thingy which just made it thicker). Third, batteries get drained too quickly. Can you make it rechargeable? Fourth, ditch the flash light. We all have cell phones that can do that, so we don't need our multimeters to do so as well. And finally, thank you, Kaiweets, for making such a great, cute little device. Please keep supporting Kiss Analog by sending more of your products for review.

1:19 The Aneng AN8008 is in fact a older model, after that they came with the AN8009. I bought the AN8009 more then a year ago on Ebay, and that came with a pouche with zipper and an extra set of testleads with versatile tips. I use this meter a lot and tested it with 600V DC and the Frequency counter goes till 17Mhz, for a budget meter not bad i think. This Kaiweets HT112B is very nice and slim design multimeter, as i saw on a other review of this multimeter, there is only 1 minor "problem" ,it seems that this multimeter can't read voltages below 0,5V. On the inside they slightly saved on a fuse holder, but for 600mA the plastic housing is more then sturdy enough. Other then that, this is a nice multimeter for a hobbyist, and for a novice the auto range is a nice feature.

@@KissAnalog It was like 2 or 3 am when I watched your review. I realized I was not specific enough. It has a great display and the smart phone look. The input on the leads are smaller than normal, but it might be better than ones that are soldered into the meter. I also like the details that you went into on the plastic case design. Also, it might be interesting that they could design a base for the unit that allows you to insert standard test leads while at the same time include a stand for it.. All one would have to do is "slide" the meter into the inserts on the base much like a smart phone did on charger stations.

Hi Eddie. I just received my version of this a few days ago, and I have to say that it is fantastic. I have been using it for light duty around the house and find the form factor and features really enjoyable to use. I actually like the very sensitive NCV, too. One thing I cannot figure out, though, is how to manually power it off. Did you find a way to do this other than letting it auto-shut down? Thanks for pointing us to this great little meter!

For those that like to roll their own test leads it appears that 2mm banana jacks work just fine. If you don't wish to make your own, Probemaster offers its 8000 series probes in 2mm banana plug or .080 pin format. I've not tried those as I planned on making my own anyway. Just throwing options out there for folks concerned about the test leads.

This was a really good review! I like how absolutely clear you were about how they approached you. Your review was realistic and practical, and I didn't feel like it was influenced in the least. You presented everything I would need to know to decide if this meter was right for me. This kind of meter seems, to me, to be ideal for someone doing field computer/server repair work. It would fit nicely in a bag or briefcase along with an iFixit toolkit and paperwork! :) For me, I'd rather spend the extra $10 and get another Thsinde 18 Z-III, because 20,000 counts and just really cool design, but I could definitely see this one for field work for computer techs!

I love this meter, just got it tonight. I found this video while trying to figure out how to switch the temp from C to F. Did you figure it out yet? I’m thinking the display might be from one of their bigger meters (repurposed maybe?) and perhaps the temp functionality is a residual effect. The Manuel doesn’t mention it and I’ve tried several button combos, no dice.

Hello. Thanks for your video. Question for you; what size Amp fuse should I get to replace the one that came with the multimeter? It only shows the voltage - F630amH 250V on the one that apparently blew, but it doesn't tell me what current should be on the fuse. I checked at Amazon and they do sell them, but from a minimum of 0.5A to a maximum of 10A. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Thanks Geir - those are great questions! I think this one would have been worth the money to put a lithium rechargeable batter into it. Eddie: One thing you forgot to really test is the speed of the continuity buzzer/reading. One reviewer pointed this out on an Amazon review: "Worthless for testing traces and testing for shorts on small pcb’s. Takes way to long to choose which mode in auto (usually want it on audible) and when you click hold it on that mode it works for testing for shorts but still a huge delay in the beep." Is this really a problem? I have the same meter to review from Amazon Vine. Two things I didn't notice when I requested it, or would not have, is the (1) Max current is 600mA. I mean yeah if you need a low current tester, you'll be fine, but even for low voltage DC, having at least 2 Amps is really necessary (LED strips, etc) and (2) the slowness of the continuity test. What do you think? One other thing: Do your really think the internal protections would protect against CAT III max surges, like plugging it into a 600V 3 phase application while the lead in in the current jack? Looks a little weak in that department, with no MOVs, blades, or PCB guards. Would you feel safe using this on 600V Phase 3 systems? Love your reviews, but I would like a little more focus on what you think about these types of meters' protections--many use only diode/small PTC and no MOvs, no case blades, no PCB guard tracks, and lower voltage, smaller fuses, unlike the Bussman type, to stop arc.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 3 жыл бұрын
Very good questions! I went out to the lab and checked continuity on several boards and it seemed to be just fine. However, I do think it would be better if it had a manual selection to continuity and/or resistance. Just for cases where it might be harder to detect. I'll send a suggestion to Kaiweets as they did ask for my feedback. The max current could be a show stopper if you know that you need more current range. But, you can also place a small resistor in line and measure the voltage across it, if all you had was this meter. I've tried not to put too much emphases on the protection - as I think most meters are just fine. Many reviewers (IMHO) make too much about this. when is the last time you heard of a problem? And think about all the untrained people using cheep meters that they get from Harbor Freight:) As for 3 phase, 600 V systems - how many people get near them or even have seen one? 240 V maybe, but rarely 480 V or 600V. The meter isn't designed for those voltages. The 600 V is the max voltage. Also, the MOVs will not protect agains a voltage swell or surge, but are meant for spikes (some confusion with surges and spikes, but spikes last microseconds and surges last for milliseconds). I would feel safe using this outside measuring my voltage at the hot tub for instance (240 V). But, not many people actually work in CATIII. Most that do are electricians and they will usually buy a Fluke thinking that's the only safe meter. I have done several videos on CAT ratings and I feel like I need to talk more about it in my reviews. I appreciate you and your great questions!
@zagnut6787
@zagnut6787 3 жыл бұрын
@@KissAnalog Hey Eddie, thank for the response. I'd like to reply to them. First, you are right that 'most' people aren't going to try Phase 3, but it IS rated for CAT III 600V Phase 3, and if its protections are weaker than CAT III 600V, then they need to stop that branding. There is nothing wrong with a CAT II pocket meter. Second, my very limited understanding of MOV protections is that they must be used downstream of a diode bridge in order to work, since they are not fast enough. In other words, the diodes spike protect and allow the MOV to heat up enough to surge protect. Do I have that all wrong? As far as current protection, I 'guess' that little PTC and that small fuse are ok. I'm not liking it for CAT III 600V protection, from what I can see. I know, I know, "not a 600V Phase 3 meter," but that's how they advertise it. Other than that, I'm too much of a beginner to call anything else into question, but for some reason I'm fascinated with protections. I think maybe because it teaches me about bout how electronics work, other than just DMM protections. Thanks for replying.

@@KissAnalog Eddie, just wanted to ask one more question about protection. What do you think would happen if you tried to measure a panel where a 3 phase 60HP 460V motor drawing 60A? In other words, if you plugged it into 600 volts and shorted it with 60 amps going through it?

Great Question Rod!! I couldn’t get it to switch over either, and checked online and the manual, but no mention of it. I reached out to Kaiweets and got confirmation that there is not an option to switch it. I am so used to Celsius now that I forgot to check this before the review. Like your review! :-) And it looks like a great little meter to have on you, just don't like the battery, it's too short-lived. If size was super important, could they have added a LI-Ion battery inside with a micro USB charger. About being sponsored or not. There are the technical definition and then are there the "real" definition. If a reviewer is receiving a product, either by spending money or for free is it often a bad idea to make any company angry, sins it will guarantee make them avoid you in the future. Any review is balancing between honesty and future cooperation, if the device is very bad. Some may also speak better about a product, in hope of receiving much more valuable item later on. The difference between your review and many others is that you do in fact test the gear and bases your opinion on that, this has to be the definition of fair reviews. About the technical part of your video: I you look at your video, you can see that it is out of focus and very much lit up. I think you are using a way to big focal ratio, like f4 or f5.6, try instead f8, f11 or even f16 and use your wall to adjust speed and color balance.

Whether it is technically "sponsorship" or not, getting equipment for free can influence reviewers. That's why Consumer Reports won't accept donations from companies. I appreciate that Kiss Analog was upfront that he didn't pay for the meter. The review seemed fair to me; it didn't dwell on problems with the device, but did point them out.
@friedmule5403
@friedmule5403 3 жыл бұрын
@@BenInSeattle You are 100% correct and I know that he is very aware of that. What I like about his reviews is the fact that he does in fact show him using it, measuring stuff, and do not hide if something is outside what he expects. Add to it, that he does also judge the instrument from what you should expect an instrument in that price and quality. I simply hate when a reviewer says something stupid like: "This instrument is horribly made and are using cheap components! Look at the shielding compared to this Agilent". Yes Mr. idiot, but you are comparing a $100 with a $7000 instrument!!! On the other hand, does it make one more positively minded when a place decides to support one and take one seriously. Heck, it does also make me positive about that brand, a brand that does in fact care about a small channel and who is not embarrassed by being reviewed by one who has not yet reached the "top of the pop". :-)

Who looks at your videos and says "I know what Eddie needs - a multimeter!"? Speaking as a man who has been in a happy, monogamous relationship with the same multimeter for the last thirty years (a Tenma 72-7730, since you ask), this is quite tempting though, if only as a cheep fling. That non-contact voltage sensor is certainly impressive. One complaint though: why do you keep randomly using a different meter as your test standard? Why not pick the best/ highest resolution/ known name/ most recently calibrated one from your extensive harem (sorry, I'll stop with this analogy now!) and use that in all your reviews so we get a better idea how accurate the DUT is?

Took a lot of guys to make this video 😁🤣 I don't think this is a competitor/replacement for the aneng an8008/an8009. This is more a pocket multimeter in use and functionality (although a comprehensive one) The an8008/an8009 is, although small, a full function multimeter. Mainly because of the 4mm sockets and the 10A range. Tbh I don't really care for the display and new style function switch. A rotary switch and clear display that shows the numbers and range is all you need and has functioned for 30+ years. Tbh it looks a bit like a fab like those inverted displays that came along 2-3 years ago on cheaper multimeters to try and simulate a kind of oled display, but are crap in the end. What this meter has going for it imho is the dual display in AC modus showing frequency (the temp function is more irritating than useful imho) and the ncv with live probe+flashlight, being a pocket multimeter (although every smartphone also has a flashlight of course). The lead warning is also good. The bargraph has the same refresh as the numbers and has therefore no additional value. The case is a standard case, and the elastic band that holds the meter sits over the display/knobs, so everytime you use it you have to fumble the meter out. That would drive me crazy. Either make bands that hold ir at the corners or do something with velcro or so. I don't know if a pocket dmm in a custom hard or softcase is a better design. They usually have less functions than this one but are often even smaller and dont need fumbling the meter out of the case. The button cells also shows it's 'pocketmeter' designation. The aneng has AAA which I prefer. The an8009 has a proper softcase (so no pouch) with enough room for the extra leadspack, temp probe etc that comes with it ( but again: bigger, so it goes in a toolbox but not a pocket)
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 3 жыл бұрын
LOL;) Great feedback! I also like the dual display. I was impressed how sensitive the NCV function worked. Honestly, I forgot to keep my attention on the bar graph update. I meant to look into the update speed. The meter seemed fast though.

@@KissAnalog Maybe it's a bit a multimeter with an identity crisis. It's not a real pocket multimeter, and not a real full multimeter. They also said that from the an8008, but that is a full multimeter, just really small. I think it looks a bit like the aneng 618C/Mustool MT111 only that doesnt do current and has fixed leads.

Not really a deal breaker for a 30$ meter, but the lowest Capacitance range is useless. 33pF doesn't even register. 150pF comes up around 120pF. So a negative offset that you can't offset. Higher ranges are within spec.
