Regarding output terminals, I always prefer ground to be in the middle so you can ground either positive or negative side with a copper strip. Once you've done that, a dual banana plug can be used between the ground and the free side. Of course, you can get the best of both layouts by having the three terminals at the corners of an equilateral triangle, but that seems to be quite rare.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great feedback John! You make a great point! Since I typically like to leave the outputs floating, I may swap the chassis ground and the negative terminal;) I often (for videos) want to make a quick connection and would like to use the dual banana plug. It would be great to see the equilateral triangle arrangement as the common config.

Thanks for the videos on psus and doing the review on this model. I've been browsing videos up to a few years back looking for a solid recommendation. Would you still recommend a similar model around 100 like this after all these years testing low to high end machines or this machine compared to some of the new stuff on the market? I've been stumped on which to buy for under $1k. What are your thoughts for choosing between rigols build quality compared to siglent, vs tectronix/keithley for functionality and practical use or be precision? I'm a electrical and computer engineer student planning to set up my own test bench for projects and wanting to invest in something that would last for years through college and even for professional work. Plan on from working with circuitboards and chips of all types, pc components to drones, and ebikes. Was wanting something that fit the build of a programmable, multi output, high accurate clean psu. Been working with a lot of tectronix/keithley on campus but its a little steep for 800$ for a psu. Could you do a top 10 or something from your experience with the different companies products you've handled? Any advice with be very appreciated.

Good supply for the things you do on your channel, good to see you found a PSU sweet spot. Looks like they went for "a HP look" which is a good sign. They had better have sorted its transient behaviour, as it looks like it has been designed to step or change voltages in an instant.

Thanks Kris for making me take another look. The fan actually pulls air from the box and blows out. This is better as it will keep from blowing hot air in your face and pull air from the vents and will help keep the air in the box from collecting at the top;)

@@KissAnalog Yeah, I wasn't very accurate with my comment. Some airflow will still happen in the top half of the case, also because the flow along the bottom half is somewhat blocked by the transformer. The fan might be "oversized" enough to not make it an issue for the caps and components.

Thanks for the video. After watching I bought the IT6721. I need some advise on how is the intended performance or use of this unit when powering circuits that do require both positive and negative voltage + ground. I am building a dual power supply using LM317 and LM337 but surprisingly neither the (+) nor the (-) voltage develops any tension to ground. Some of the boards I am working with, have components like the LM348 (for example) which requires +15V and -15V (no ground) but at the same time, some do have also other components (power transistors) which work using only (+) and ground. I bought the PS because I understood that the power supply has a couple of internal transformers, one of them a linear transformer which I supposed had a isolated secondary with its central tap grounded and connected to the pin in the front with the ground symbol as any derived secondary source should. Please advise.

Great review, I am wondering if you can take any two copies of a power supply and connect them in i.e. (-30/0/+30)? A bit of legal pedantry: I have to tell you that you are being sponsored if you in any way get or hope to get some advantaged that not everybody is able to get. Besides that, do you also have to specify, if anybody you know it gaining advantage, are working at that place or if you hope for any favors, are paying any favors or to make it short: "If anything is different from what everybody else who have bought for their own money" The law is very strict about that, and it has to be made clear and upfront from the start. :-)
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Fried Mule for the great question! I'd like to get two copies as it would be a great way to power my Audio Amplifier boards with + and - voltages. It is very low noise, so maybe I'll sale the Xantrex and then I can afford to buy another;) Regarding the sponsorship, when vendors work with creators (bigger channels than mine) they will offer sponsorship where they provide the products to review and money for each time it is shown in a video. So, when I simply get a free product - it hardly makes it worth my time to make the video. So I only accept items that I think might help my viewers. And then most of the time I give the item away. Most of the time I purchase the items myself. When I receive a free item, I report that usually at the beginning and the end of the video that I received the item for free. But then when I say that I am not sponsored - I say that they haven't paid me. Sponsorship is where a lot of big channels make their money and allows creators to work KZfaq full time. Itech did ask me what I charge for a video, so that is amazing - but I was really intrigued by this companies products and wanted to see one - to see if it was as good as I hoped. So, I didn't want to scare them off by charging them too much. I think I will start asking to be sponsored or I might just turn down the free stuff. It takes too much time and isn't worth it. I have so many other videos that I want to do. Things that I have bought and haven't had time to review. My Patreons are really my sponsors - but even that is only a fraction of what I spend a month.
@friedmule5403
@friedmule5403 2 жыл бұрын
@@KissAnalog I understand you, and yes it does in no way pay off if you get an $120 power supply, but on the other hand, is that maybe a fine way to get better products. If they offer you something free, then ask them if you could also get their bench DMM model TTXYZ on review or what you need. About sponsorship, I know it may be silly, but the law does not care if you get a free banana or ownership of a spaceship. They do also not care if it's your uncle's half brother or your wife who has connection to the product. I am just trying to protect you because they are some nasty fellows, these advertisement law guys. :-)

@@kmundendy660 Personally, I prefer a separate function generator. Both scopes are good and 4 channels is awesome so you cant go wrong. But read the fine-print with regards to features. Rigol is known for including features that expire after 30 days of use....

@K Mundendy @Mikael Garcia, I'd like to say that Mikael has some great points and to add, I think both scopes are so close in specs. The Rigol as a deeper memory and the built in generators, so it does seem to have more going for it. I like the FFT function on the Rigol better I think as well. Rigol was throwing in all the options for awhile, and they might still be offering that but I can't tell. Another great option I think - and one I'd actually lean towards is the Picoscope. The software is being upgraded constantly, and is more advanced in my opinion. Check this one out. Also download the manual of each and look them over - that might help you decide. amzn.to/3hlpwOv

So importing from China with taxes and shipping it is about £400 to the uk, has NO ability to be programmed. What it actually has is settings memories. You can't control it from another device like a computer, the user interface is non intuitive, it has lots of output capacitance, has no separate front panel voltage sense terminals and the manual is non intuitive. It also needs to be tested for undershoot, overshoot and noise.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks James for your feedback! Maybe it is because I have used so many different power supplies - but I think this one is easy to use. I only opened the manual to see what the Power Address and Group options do. I still need to ask Itech about this part;) You are right, it does not offer remote operation, and the programming is somewhat limited as it can't be set to run through a script, but programming the 4 memory locations controlled by discrete buttons is pretty cool. I did show the undershoot and overshoot, and even the low noise when I showed the stepping from each programmed setup. I did more but the video was getting long so I edited some of it out. I'll have to do another comparison video to show how nice it works. Some of the equipment offered in Europe is much more expensive here - so it is always hard to know what things cost in other countries. Let me know if there's a power supply that you like.

between your politeness and the chinese' bad english, the only result i can see is greater confusion. I think you should be more critical and frank about their flaws, in spite of you getting free stuff, so that everyone learns more. like what on earth were they saying with that output curve example, specifically the last couple of lines? also, I'm just wondering about all the products on amazon that seem to be basically the same except for cosmetic differences. it would be interesting get a bunch of them and see to what extent the guts, designs and components are shared. i remember not long ago a viewer pointed out that one of the ideal multimeters you pitted against a fluke was actually an appa 99iii. and yeah, it looks like only the colors were different. then i discovered that appa have a 98iii and 99iv that also look the same so maybe the ideal and the appa weren't identical on the inside because the 3 different appa products wouldn't have been identical to one another on the inside with different names, one would feel safe to assume. also, when i follow links to the kaiweets products i find a bunch of identical looking products under different names or none at all. just a few days earlier I saw the same thing with a socket tester that won a fairly recent youtube shootout. the same product in the same colors with just the brand name, usually on one of the smaller panels but in the same font even. with the kaiweets stuff, it's almost identical regarding placement and colors except they've managed to hit the bit time and get their own special font used. this must've come at an extra cost but I guess now the template or screen for they logo is there and can be used by all of these manufacturers. I think someone needs to get to the bottom of it and for each product find out who actually made it, who designed it, who commissioned it, which factory its made in and which other brands have put their name on it. then we might be able to establish where all the different factories are, who the middlemen are, which companies work with with manufacturers and everything in between. we can then establish which factories produce the highest quality stuff, for instance. and we can establish exactly what all these other companies do, if anything but testing and selecting products to put their name on. having all these minor superficial differences gives the illusion that we have lots of options when all it could be is just a method to use a bigger net to drag people into purchasing essentially the same product. it distracts from other competition, wastes time, inflates prices in various ways including by having a big buffer to play with so that all these different versions of the same product have prices that fall within a certain range but vary in waves within that range. it's hard to explain but it's like a false reality, twinkling and distracting and at the end of the day it continues to lure people into pouring money into the prc instead of their own countries, just because something costs less. In turn, this is because people are paid less. And nobody cares that their money could be funding the weapons that could be used against them in future. Okay, why bring politics into this? Because if people continue to be ignorant, they'll continue to be taken advantage of and it's like the blind leading the blind into something they won't realise until it's too late. I've never been like this previously - I used to be an indealists and quite left of centre and lovely-dovey, 'treat people nice and they'll prove to be nice' type deal. but the enemy doesn't comply with these dogmas and use it to their advantage. they don't respect foolish people who will take the quickest and cheapest route to get a foot in the door, no matter what the greater costs are. I've been there and done that. and i've been grateful to the chinese economy for it but it's total ignorance and foolishness. i still wouldn't ban myself from buying chinese if it was too much of a tempting value proposition, especially because the politics side of things hasn't fully exploded and in general, the people involved in the business side of things is china are generally set apart from those in politics, for the time being at least. yet in saying that, ideology is very powerful and in spite of major civil wars, the chinese always teamed together when it came to nationalism and foreign invasions. they were always able to put their internal things on hold, especially once the machus were out of the way. oh politics again, excuse me. anyway with ebay, i used to choose the chinese option a lot but now that has almost completely vanished. it also helps that the chinese stuff had terrible postage times and that ebay has ebay plus benefits but some platforms like amazon even the playing field and still nobody considers where a product comes from, how it can be that cheap, who is the original IP owner and what are the consequences of diverting money into that particular land. All for what? coz we got something cheap or free? nothing is free and you get what you pay for. thanks for reading if you made it this far and youtube didn't delete it. :)

Thanks for your thoughtful feedback! It is true that so many products look the same and must be rebranded. If you want to support a certain company because it is from a country you support - well that is really tough too because companies like Fluke have most of their products made overseas I believe. I have several current clamp meters from Fluke and they are all made in Asia, and one is very old. This surprised me. Amprobe and Tektronix are the same - but then they are all owned by the same company. None of them are owned by the original families that built the companies. And who knows what their politics are, so who knows what you are supporting. I do feel confident that you are overpaying for what you get. Ideal has not sold out and is still the same company and makes a lot of their products in the USA. I have a GWInsek power supply which is a Taiwan based company, and the rebranded the Tektronix power supply that I paid a lot more for. So, I overpaid for the name. I think GWInstek makes great equipment, but just because they put Tektronix on it - I paid more for it. I certainly didn’t get what I paid for if I was trying to support a high quality American made product. This ITech power supply looks very well made and is at a great price, so if you want to get what you pay for - consider it - or pay more for a brand name that you know - but probably don’t know where it’s made or even who designed it.

The user interface is cumbersome. Typical of a lot of modern stuff these days.

Thanks Steven for your feedback! Maybe it is because I have used so many different power supplies - but I think this one is easy to use. I only opened the manual to see what the Power Address and Group options do. I still need to ask Itech about this part;)
