You're absolutely right, cerakote is more durable and since the frames are a magnesium/zinc blend, it is actually even better. Think of it like an anodized AR receiver, the coating hardens the end product.

The only problem I’ve seen with the Barkeep in 22wmr is the key holing. I guess the short barrel isn’t enough to keep the round straight with the extra oomph? Kind of like the NAAs in 22 mag. The round is out before the powder burns too.

Actually 22 LR is the best rationale for buying one. IIRC, 1 in 14” twist is for 22 LR. Ruger convertibles use compromise bbl. Dimensions and compromise twists. Why not be happy with a dedicated 22 LR ?

UPDATE: I sent my Wrangler back to Ruger and they corrected the accuracy problem...! It 's NOT a tack driver but at least it is now a decent plinker....!

@@swplatemaker Can you tell us more about what they did to correct it? I've seen a few other comments concerning accuracy with wranglers and I'd like to know more before I buy one. Thanks.

I’m left handed, so S A’s are my cup of tea. I have this TALO Wrangler Birdie, and it’s Big Bird 45 acp brother. Grip panels are interchangeable and both flip bullets out to the right the same distance. G S corrected Big Bird, and now has Birdie to correct it too! I’m lucky that front sight is unscrewed, blue locktited, and screwed back, not quite all the way in, so front sight chases 3:00 bullet holes in ten yard paper targets. But these are Cheapo little six guns, so no use putting lipstick on a pig! FWIW, Heritage puts a quicker twist bbl. in their Barkeep model, which this revolver was designed to replace. CeraKoted sights work fine, using Lyman Eye Pals stick on diopters for your shooting, safety glasses, over your master eye!

I have a 629 and 686, you should get a 617. I have one, it’s a very nice revolver.

Mark, it’s a pissy little 22 LR. I have this Birdie and a 45 acp/45Super/45 Cowboy special, Birdshead with the 3.75” bbl. What is strange to this Southpaw, is they both hit equally off to the left. GS LOCKTITED, 45 bbl. off to right to chase bullet holes. Wrangler is up at same shop for identical treatment, plus springs kit! Big Bird has serious bbl. Whip with 260 gr. JHP Spear bullets. One gent shooting Federal range ammo said it kicked worse than his S&W X Frame 460 Magnum. Thing is factory sighted for G I 230 gr. Loads. 260’s hit 5” higher at 20 yds. Front sight is lower than normal 45 Colt SAA style blade. Handgrip Frames are interchangeable, but Wranglers’ are pot metal.

@@davekoenig9935 lower front makes for a high shooter. Hold your hands in front of you, like a front and rear sight. Raise the one in the front or rear and imagine that is the pistol sights. Raising rear raises impact, lower rear lowers, raising front lowers impact but lower front raises impact.

So it's kinda complicated, but I'll break it down real quick. You can have a .22 mag and even bigger guns and then....stay with me, you can buy one of these for your kids to shoot. It's kinda like hammers. You can use different sizes for different jobs. I hope that helps.

To my understanding the reason they don't do this is because the frames on these Wranglers wouldn't be able to withstand the magnum fire over time which doesn't make that much sense when this is supposedly cold forged steel
