This winter I travelled from London to Sweden by train passing through and exploring Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Malmo and Stockholm.
In this video I show what the journey home is like on the way home as I take the new Stockholm to Hamburg sleeper train.
In my last video I showed what this journey to Sweden is like and what you can do along the way including visiting the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Design museum in Copenhagen, naked bathing in Malmo and going to see the Vasa ship in Stockholm.
A few years ago I quit flying for holidays and since then whenever I go away I travel by land or sea, mainly by train or ferry.
If you enjoy this video please subscribe as it really helps me make more of these videos.
If you’re interested in learning more about slow or sustainable travel and seeing what other flight-free holidays look like I will be uploading more videos in the future which explore both.

Hi Sarah, thank you very much for creating these inspiring travel vlogs. Like you, I love the adventure of travelling by train and wholeheartedly agree that there’s a charm and romance about rail travel that simply cannot be had with flying. I feel your channel is an invaluable resource for everyone including the environmentally conscious, and I’m planning to treat myself to one of the epic rail journeys you’ve shared imminently! Happy New Year!

Hi. Very interesting video. Something which is quite annoying though is that, this train was planned as one half of a deal involving 2 trains. The other train being a night train direct from Malmö and Copenhagen, all the way down to Brussels. The only problem is that after the tenders to operate the trains had been put out, not a single operator bid for the Brussels train and as such it was cancelled. SJ was the only bidder on the Stockholm-Hamburg train too. The reasons behind this were down to some German laws making it incredibly expensive to operate a train through Germany (for many years the price to access the tracks per kilometer was 10 times higher in Germany than in Sweden and Denmark). And combine that with the trains being subsidised only within Denmark and Sweden, and the economics for any interested operators weren't adding up. SJ only signed onto the Hamburg train because they felt it ran such a short portion of its journey in Germany that they could take the loss of running in there and still make even.

Happy New Year !!! Really enjoyed the journey to Stockholm and back. This and the last video were an absolute treat to watch, especially all the "off-train" experiences you shared in the last video. Kinda funny how reaching earlier is "not always good" LOL. Unrelated to the video, as someone who does not live in Europe, I am looking forward to my very first long duration Nightjet Sleeper Cabin experience in a couple of months. YAY 🤩

Oh wow didn't know you had KZfaq! Amazing! Subscribed! And the information is so good, fun fact that I was responsible for creating the product offer in the tender for this train 🥰🙂

I hadn't thought about how the translation allows people to distort 'flygskam'. In Swedish, 'skam' is obviously the noun, not the verb.

Great video! Just so you know only the tube station is called Kings Cross St Pancras! The Eurostar departs from St Pancras, with Kings Cross being a different station all together

In general due to staff shortage it's better go avoid Eurostar from Amsterdam and take the same train from Rotterdam, to spread out passengers that's way cheaper. This connection is absolutely great. Would be great with sleeper cars though.

Very interesting video! I am going with this train on Saturday but I am sitting in a normal sitting coupe! Really curious how that looks like because I only see videos of the sleeping cabins. Did you see those sitting coupes?

One of the reasons I was personally looking forward to the sleepers was that the old German couchette carriages aren't well suited to winter conditions. The windows don't seal properly so that when I took the Snälltåget night train last winter, I woke up with a headache because of the cold draught. Did you have any similar issues on your trip?

Thank you for this update. You said that they have added some cars, yes? Is that the car for seated travelers or is it just a restaurant?

So when I travelled on it they had only added the sleeper cabin car but they may well have added the seating car by now. You'll be able to see if you try to book a seat. x

@@sarahb.m.5730 SJ has been selling seated tickets from the begining but they have not had that specific car. Thats the ones that have not been approved by Denmark. Luckily SJ are way on their way to add Berlin as final destination for this line in early April and i hope that will be the start of the whole train set as was intended from the beginning. Thanks a lot for your video. I´m looking to take this trip as part of going to Paris.

Hi Annika, the costs are all in the description box - these are all when you book about 2/3 months in advance and it will more if you’re travelling during summer holidays (July/August). Really good to hear you’re considering this! X
