seeded my backyard a few years ago without the prep-work and soil sample. A few reasons I didn't get to prep it the way I wanted. That winter I got my soil sample and added lime. The following year, 2022, I got a second soil sample and the front was perfect, but the back was still "low". That winter I added a bit more lime and last year my backyard was a huge difference. Even without pushing it with 16-4-8. I'm finally in a position this year to dedicate the time and $$$ to it and gonna see how good I can get this back yard looking. Already getting many compliments from my neighbors on the front. So yes, soil sample makes a big difference. You know where you stand.

For the shower curtain I bought a couple wall mounted closet rod holders to screw into the wall on either side and cut some leftover wooden closet rod to hang the curtain on.

I have perennial rye and it’s already green. Few more months here in Michigan going to get ahead of the game with pre emergent and then 10-10-10 and dark green fertilizer. Also a nice scalp and thatch first.

Doc nIce to get back into some turf videos, I'm in centra florida and have made my 1st application of Anderson's Barricade about 3 weeks ago I have also applied Duocide in the past week to deal with grubs which created mole issues. Just a heads up Anderson is having a 20% of Pre Emergent sale through Feb 4th with free shipping. I will be applying my 2nd pre emergent treatment in the later part of feb. The 80 degree weather is right around the corner.

What’re your thoughts on mixing DGL and PGF Balance together to add more nitrogen to a balanced fast release fertilizer, but put it out at a smaller rate?

Doc I think your forgetting those cool season grasses grow in the far stretches of the frozen north where the ground can be frozen 8 months out the year lol. Its no surprise to me the PR looks amazing

I overseeded my bermuda with AR last year in northern Georgia and we had one stretch of temps in the single digits. Killed every bit of it.

I had to put thousands of pounds of lime but delivery with feet and seed was worth it. It was a whole pallet and lasted all year so I didn’t have to return and make multiple trips.

I have no clue what to put down first this year. I have fescue, plus clover, dollar weed, dandelions, etc. Just cut it. Rain tomorrow, Aerate this Saturday. What should I put down after that?

Doc, I’m in Houston and Pre-Emergent calendar says Jan 1st -Mar30th. That’s a whole quarter of the year! It’s nice and comfortable now in the 70s during the day. There may be a cold snap (below freezing) again. Even if there is a freeze again, would it be OK to put out granular pre-emergent now and come back early march with Dimension spray?

Look for the soil temp map and apply when roughly 53 degrees. I'm guessing your answer will be YES.

hey doc im planning to do a overseeding my lawn this coming fall should I use the Anderson pre-emergent bag now or wait until the fall, or what can i use now for the weeds?? im in TN. thanks for all your tips and comments

Don’t use any pre emergent when overseeding in fall I never do but if you have to seed spots in spring that are bare you can use tenacity. It’s the only thing I’m aware of that won’t inhibit your grass from germinating.

Enjoy your videos. I have a newly sodded Bermuda grass lawn. It was laid a few days before Nov 29th. We moved in New Year’s Eve. Lots of deep freeze and rain since then. Yard is still very soft. They are going to roll it after it dries out a little more. I have never had a new lawn and haven’t a clue what to do at this point. I have an irrigation system as well. Can you lead me in the right direction please! 🙏🏻

You're right on the "line" of PE acceptance. I might wait until fall and deal with weeds and just not freak out THIS year. They will come but can be dealt with. Problem is the impact of new root development.

One thing that i do is actually manual cut out the weeds from the turf. Roots and all. When i was a new to bermuda grass and didnt know much, i once put down Southern weed and feed on my bermuda. I almost killed my whole lawn after reading the package that states do not use on bermuda. After that, i fertilize, apply fungacide, and pre emergent differently. I never do combiend applications. Anyways live the content

Question for ya Doc. When using the spray bottles you've recommended in past videos and on the site, does that need to be taken into account when mixing stuff? Such as super juice or weed killer to put down now, while bermuda is still dormant? What I'm asking is, does using those bottles and a water hose dilute it even more? Hopefully that question makes sense.

Yes, each bottle will cover about 2000 sq ft so use the proper amount based on that number. i.e. if making 4 bottles it's enough product for 8000 sq ft

Any spreader will work, the problem is that it only works with VERY... VERY... dry sand. We ended up just throwing with a shovel and use a leveling rake.
