Fantastic effort! I have this same kit, but I am going to brush paint it with Vallejo acrylic paint. Starting with a Revell Stuka first as I haven't built a model since I was a teenager, and the Stuka looks like an easier build to begin with and learn from the mistakes I'll make!

Scale Modeling Madness great tutorial and thank you for sharing , keep studying the subjects that you want to model to my mind that is the key to being a true scale modeler to be able to make adjustments during a project build if you guys are complaining about the accuracy of a kit just imagine how us model railroad hobbyist feel and most of our models are pre-painted i would love if i could find a HO scale Trinity 23000 gallon tank car in a kit, you have a new subscriber .

If your a new modeler I recommend doing your wash in smaller sections as its easier to get a consistent blend. And make sure you put a gloss coat first or you'll ruin your paint job.

Thanks Sprue Fascination.....I love to share what little I know. It is because more talented modellers shared their knowledge freely that I have managed to improve, though there still a long way to go. But I would love more people to take up this fascinating hobby :)

Very impressive build. Enjoyed all aspects....such precision with the build, painting and weathering of this iconic aircraft. I will take on board some of your tips with regards to the mottling process and the use of different paint colours for contrast when building the 1/32 scale Spitfire I have in my collection. Thanks again for an awesome series.

Nice job on the weathering, maybe use Vallejo paints for the camo next time? You won't need to mix your own, that dark earth is definitely not right. The rest is a great result.

Great build! Prior to using the enamel washes and paints, what kind of varnish are you using? I ask because you blend the grime streaks with paint thinner so I was curious how to use that without ruining the varnish. Thanks!
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Tom. So, the sludge wash I used, as I am sure you know, was water and clay based, so no problems there. For the grime streaking, I am using enamels. The varnish I used was a water based one. What I have found to work for me, is that the varnish and the subsequent washes should be different. So, if you are going with an enamel wash or streaks, the varnish should not be enamel based (water based will do) and vice versa. Enamel wash on enamel varnish may reactivate the varnish and ruin the paint job. Also, and I cannot stress the importance of this enough, you must let the varnish or paint dry properly. Give it a day or leave it overnight. If the varnish is not properly cured, there is a great risk of spoiling it, no matter what kind it is. Hope that helps. Good luck with your build :)

Very nice build! What adhesive do you use for the rigging? Is it just the Tamiya?
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Massimo, for the rigging I use a tiny drop of super glue at the end of a cocktail stick. This is an elastic rigging that you get for scale modelling. Just a drop of glue, hole the end of the rigging in place, it takes only a few seconds to secure the rigging in place.

I'm a bit confused why you used the white or brown mottling(?) because it is not noticeable at all. I don't think if I was doing this model that I would use so many costs of paint, socially the lacquer. I do agree about the shar lines in the camo paint. Also like the tip about dry brushing details.

Hey Carl...the reason I sometimes do things... that I would not usually do... is just to experiment and share with fellow modellers. An idea comes to mind....and I give it a go. lol. That's about it. I admit some of them are spectacular failures :)

Do you use mostly acrylic paint? I used to use enamel but it's a pain to clean and even carefully sealed bottles dry out or can't get it open. I started modeling when that's all that was available. Those models are all long gone now.

In video 3 and now video 4, which paint kit were you using. I see so many available it gets confusing as to which one to purchase. I am just getting back into model building now at 66. Fifty years ago, when I was 15-16 years old I loved building fighter planes and battleships. I even built a schooner. I have recently purchased the Spitfire Mk 24 which is my favourite Spitfire.

Hey Doc... don't worry too much about getting the paint scheme absolutely right. For now, just go with something that you feel looks right. As you progress and read more and so forth you will, on your own, narrow down on a set of colours that you feel are right. There are endless debates on various forums about what colour was right and so forth. But leave that for later, for now, just enjoy putting together your kit.

One question: do the wheelwells really cause that much oil smears in a real life spitfire?
@scalemodellingmadness4114
@scalemodellingmadness4114 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ken....the underside of aircraft during WWII were usually rather dirty. Firstly, many aircraft flew from open fields rather than tarmac. This meant oil plus mud. Also, sometimes pilots were doing two or three sorties a day, which meant no time for ground crew to polish and shine the machines. So, I would presume that thing did get a little dirty on the wheels and the wells. :)
