Why? So don’t you see where Tesla is going with this? Elon was talking about making a car with no steering wheels or pedals, and he was talking about this 3, 4 or 5 years ago. So where the hell have you been, as Tesla has imagined a future when no one is going to be driving their cars, and so you can drive the other guys cars presumably, but Tesla cars will be completely autonomous cars meaning they’re robots, and in this configuration they don’t need steering wheels or pedals to drive, because again the car is the robot, therefore, they don’t need a human driver or windows or mirrors, and you will just be a passenger, and so watch a movie, play a video game, engage your customers or your colleagues/coworkers in a zoom call or just go to sleep. Capeesh! Cheers 🥂

@@theodorehaskins3756maybe, but since it’s a long way to that point, removing the stalks TODAY is just another way to make the car less expensive to manufacture. Considering that Tesla already has the highest margins by far, it is definitely overkill. And Euro NCAP will probably lower the safety rating for the stalkless models.

@@theodorehaskins3756 issue is that we don't have actual FSD and on TOP of that people still like to drive their cars even if they have FSD. There is no rational reason to remove steering wheel or pedals or even stalks at this moment in time and there won't be one for another 5+ years even if Tesla solves FSD yesterday. Private cars are not robotaxi, people would buy more of these cars if Tesla avoided overdoing their minimization approach.

To all the NPCs talking about how we should be moving forward with no stalks, it is not safer, faster or more efficient to use a touchscreen over stalks. It’s the equivalent of typing an essay on a touchscreen keyboard. What if you’re wearing gloves? You gonna take them off to switch gears? This is honestly a ridiculous argument stalks are objectively better than touch screen gear shifters. Y’all need to stop being fanboys because aesthetics is not the future, ergonomics is. Tesla sales will suffer until they reintroduce stalks.

This is a miracle. I'm on my second Model S in 11 years, and I swore I'd never get another one because Tesla keeps ruining cars by putting in yokes, removing stalks, and putting stupid capacitive haptic buttons on the steering [device] that are easy to accidentally trigger. With stalks available, now all I have to do is wait for Tesla to get rid of the capacitive buttons on the REGULAR ROUND steering wheel, and I would consider buying another S. I would be curious if a software update would possibly render the stalks inoperable, or if it voids your warranty in any way. Ooh! I like the carbon fiber round wheel. Does it ditch the stupid capacitive buttons? I've NEVER had a problem reading the binnacle dash display with a normal steering wheel. I refuse to drive a car with the dangerous yoke. Yes, it's dangerous. If you think otherwise, then you have neither the experience nor the skill to know any better.
@Anthony__420
@Anthony__420 29 күн бұрын
You know what’s dangerous is the placement of the horn in the refreshed model S And X. On 2024 models they put back in center. I had two instances when a guy was backing out of his driveway and almost crashed into my X as I’m pushing the airbag instead of the weird placed button on steering wheel
@gemrough

@@Anthony__420yep dumb as hell where they put them. Had something similar happen on a loaner…. Pushed the airbag to no avail!!!
@i1Tesla
@i1Tesla 29 күн бұрын
I don't think that a software update would make these stop working. It is the stock parts and plugging in to the plug that tesla would have used if they put the stalks in. The carbon wheel used the same panel with the stock buttons but with this product you wont need much of the buttons

Since the stalks are just injecting commands issued by the steering wheel, it *should* be fairly safe to updates. There was a guy who created his own stalk conversion about a year or so ago, and he performed it by using an Arduino board with some code that did the same thing. It received the commands from the stalks and just issued them back to the steering wheel's control module as the same command as the steering wheel.

This is so sad. Why would anyone want to go backwards. We buy the Tesla for the innovation and technology not to add old style junk to make them like things used to be. Sounds like something Mary Barra would do.

@jeffberwick 29 күн бұрын
Disagree completely. Stalks are absolutely intuitive- click in the direction that you want to go, without looking down or feeling around. The removal of stalks is human interface disaster.
@awo1fman
@awo1fman 29 күн бұрын
LOL When you're old enough to drive, you'll understand. What's sad is Tesla's insistence on breaking things that have been completely understood and worked out optimally for decades. Musk is doing things because he can, not because they are good ideas. There are people who just want to get from point A to point B, and then there are people who actually like to drive. People who like to drive want to be able to control basic functions of the car in ways that are consistent, absolutely reliable, immediate, and don't require taking one's eyes off the road. Even if FSD were a real thing, as long as manual control of a vehicle is an option, then all basic controls should have physical, tactile and stationary (not on the steering wheel) controls. Things like audio and navigation are fine on the steering wheel or a touch screen, but lights, wipers, turn signals, gear selector and even HVAC are too critical to be subject to the inaccuracies and delays of moving target touch controls or buried in touchscreens that are unreliable at best at correctly registering taps.

@@awo1fman At 77 I'm pretty sure I'm old enough to drive. Also apparently young enough to adapt to change. Are you speaking from experience with a Tesla? I drive a 2023 Model S Plaid with the yoke. I have no problems with any of these things except for FSD. My old 2019 Model S had FSD and I've tried v12.3.6 in the Plaid. FSD still sucks.
