Thanks for all the info again. Agree with number 7. Fantastic marching tune with the pipes complimenting it perfectly.

There is a fine quick march called "Tracks of Steel" that used to be played by RAC and RTR bands and was an excellent tune in my opinion. I have never heard it played since Colchester 1986. It is a pity some of our current bandmasters and directors of music cannot rummage around in the archive room a bit and bring back the great old marches. The repetition of marches these days is awful.

@@midnightteapot5633Hello Sir, you've mentioned "Tracks of Steel" previously to me I believe, and ever since I've tried finding recordings of it but to no avail! I'd love to hear it. It's a bit of a shame some of the "oldies" don't get a good airing. The Band of the Grenadier Guards played "Cambrai" a few months back, brought back by their former DoM B. Mason. It was rather lovely to hear.

Fantastic Video, Thank You Mr B! This weekend seems to be Full of Firsts for Me. The Nottingham Band of The Royal Engineers are Great, a good play list of Marches too & they played them Brilliantly. "Nimrod" always gets the Eyes filling up. The "Farewell to Gibraltar" was Spine Tingling, Superb! What a great Tartan the Pipes & Drums of The Royal Tank Regiment have, very Smart indeed. I notice that there are different Cockades on some of the Piper's Glengarries, so I'm guessing the Regiment is the Result of the Amalgamation of a number of Regiments. "Flowers of the Forest" Brings a tear as always & the Rousing "Athol Highlanders" March gets the Heart Pounding. It's always a Pleasure to see The "Old Boys" of the Regiment, they never loose it do they. God Bless each & every one of them. " They Gave their Tomorrow, So we can have Today" " At the Going down of the Sun and in the Morning, We will Remember them, We Will Remember Them." ¬For the Fallen¬ * Lawrence Binyon

I’m late getting here, having been prompted by MrB so that I may have an opportunity to watch and listen to another rendition of “Grandioso” Wow! Better late than never! What a turnout! Were it not for good folk like MrB posting on KZfaq I wouldn’t have a clue such events take place, never see anything about them on national TV😏 This is a solemn occasion, marked with due reverence by all the participants here. The music played is wonderful, the band, led by their imposing and smart Drum Major, had some lovely marches (including “Grandioso” of course) with the pipes adding that extra special element which is simply fabulous. Thank you everso much for this video👍

Is that spurs that the band are wearing? Wouldnt have thought that the royal engineers or tankers would have needed horses anytime previous? My grandad was in the royal engineers and was one of the last to leave dunkirk from the port after being involved in the blowing of bridges to slow down the german advance. My mum said he was black with dirt and slept for 3 days solid when he came home. He was later demobbed and spent the rest of the war working in devonport dockyard. RIP and respect to all those tankers commemorated here.

Perhaps it's Tradition. Before there were Tanks, there were Mobile Artillery, pulled by Horses. You can take a look at how that was done, by having a look at the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery. After all, Tanks were only Armoured Vehicles Carrying a Mobile Artillery Gun, the first ones for sure anyway. Of course Tanks have evolved over the Years, but Mobile Horse Artillery is what they replaced. Same as the mechanised Vehicles for Reconnaissance is What the Household Cavalry at Horse Guards ride to War in now, instead of Huge Black Chargers. They still wear Spurs, when they March on Foot, as well as riding the MVRs. From the 17th Century right through to the 19th Century & the early part of the 20th Century, the UK have always had a Large Number of Mounted Troops, not Just Heavy & Light Cavalry, but also Hussar, Dragoons, Cannoneers & Grenadiers Regiments. As far Back as King Edward l, aka Edward Longshanks & aka The Hammer of the Scots, in the 13th & 14th Century, used Heavy Cavalry in the Conquest of Wales & the Attempted Conquest of Scotland. Many of these Mounted Regiments have been Disbanded or Amalgamated in to Different Regiments, but many of them, Officers & Other Ranks, retain the Spurs in homage to those Brave Regiments. That is what is so Special about the UK, they have 1000 + years of Proud Military History & no Regiments are completely Forgotten, their History is carried on into different Regiments, but it's still remembered.

Excellent film of an event that I had not been aware of, until finding this on the internet. I saw the Northern Band of the Royal Engineers, several years ago at a Buxton Military Tattoo. They were good then, but now they must be one of the Premier Bands of the Reserve Army and are a credit to it. Well Done!.

This is not Remembrance Sunday the Royal Tank Regiment always march on Cambrai day which is the day tanks were used on mass during WW1. Also I am pretty sure it’s the band of the Royal Armoured Corp having marched with them a few times as most regiments no longer have their own bands.

The man who taught me Latin was a Royal Artillery subaltern at Cambrai and used to describe seeing the grey bulk of the tanks looming through the mist that November morning. He also showed us a map of the trenches which I suspect he should not have had.

The Royal Armoured Corps Band no longer exists (let alone the original bands of the cavalry regiments). (During the pandemic!!!), all these bands went into the "catch-all" bands called the "British Army Bands". However, the Reserves DO still have bands, meaning that the Royal Engineers (2 or 3 professional bands when I was a kid!) do still have a band, but not in the context of the professional Army...

It can happen easily when you aren't on a flat surface, also the band is wearing spurs which can trip you up if you're not careful. I've seen HCMR guards trip on their spurs. The important thing is how long the band member is out of step, professionals are usually back in step within 4 strides, 2 left and 2 right.

Hard to play an instrument and march, it happens all the time, just not always documented on camera
@vickyRoyalHistory

Another reason, that out of PC is not often said, is; Since the Armed Forces relaxed the height Rules & people of 5'1" can join. You then have people of 6'1" marching next to Someone who is 5'1". Not only does it not look Good, a person who is 5'1" does not have the same natural steps as someone who's 6'1". The standard pace for a Soldier or Bandsman is 30" & they are required to March at 116 Paces per Minute for a Quick March. There are some differences between Regiments, but this is the General. If any of you have Children, you know what happens when a Youngster tries to Keep up. Those of you without Children can probably remember when you tried to keep up with Parents or older Siblings. So you should be able to see how people get out of step, whether playing an Instrument or Marching in Ranks. You maybe 5'11" but if the person next to you is struggling to keep up or are putting in a Hop Skip every few steps to get back into Step, that's going to throw you out, if you're trying to hold the Dressing & keep in Step.
