The first march in this movie, is it really 'Silver Bugles' ? Elsewhere I find another march being played as 'Silver Bugles' ? And is there any sheet music available ? This is really a great march we would like to play too with our own bugle corps.

Delvin-Pedia will be Salivating over This Video Mr B! I'm sure he'll have something to say once his Keyboard Dries Out. Not Really my Cup of Tea but I Felt I should show Willing. If I remember Rightly, The Medina Band that Won last Year are the Band with Red Tunics & RM style White Helmets, was very Impressed with their 2 Littlies, they're obviously Growing Drummers for the Future. The thing that puts me off the most with Band Week is that American Ra Ra Style of their College & University Bands. I know that's their Culture etc but it is way too OTT & leaves me Cold, Bored & Disinterested. I much Prefer the British Style, it's all about the Musicians & their Talent & Ability, they don't Rely on Hocus Pocus & Razzmatazz to Cover any Shortcomings. What's More, I'd dearly Love one of those Up Themselves Superior Yanks who Scoff at the Guards Bands for having Music Cards to show their Ugly Mugs in here Over Band Week, whichever US Band is here this Year also have Music Cards, the same as Last Years did, they also seem to Drag half the School's Roll round with them, like Last Years did! Go Medina!! Ok, I've Done my Bit, Bye. Thanks for taking the Time to Cover Band Week Mr B!!! I'm sure there's far Better People than Me who will Really Appreciate it,, but I do Appreciate your Effort!!

@@justicecourtney6087 Hi! I'm sorry if I caused offence, but it's the old Horses for Courses thing I suppose. Brits by Nature are generally not as... Flamboyant as the Americans when it comes to a lot of things, one of them being Marching or Military Bands & their Music. It's just a Cultural Difference between them. I dare say if one of these School Bands appeared in the US equivalent of Band Week, the Locals there would think the Brits Dull & Boring. Re reading my Comment, I notice with Horror I may have given the impression that I thought there was a Lack of Talent or ability in the Musicians in the Band. Nothing could be further from the Truth, Loud Cheering, Razzmatazz, Hocus Pocus & Dancing Brass Instruments notwithstanding, it takes Talent, Effort & Dedication to produce the Sound that all of that Ra Ra Goes with. The Music's Good, the Sideshow Distracting. Good Luck with your Music & I'm Glad you feel Welcome!

Earls Court was a great annual military show. As a young Wren along with others we sold programmes...looked cute in the little white hats we wore with our No.1 uniforms. Always cheered For Fleet Air Arm of course, who usually won.... happy days for a young girl...now the girls are just in the RN....but we were WRNS and the Marine Band played at our passing out parade at HMS Mercury, just great. Earls Court military week was just fabulous and dud not fare so well when taken to Olympia and now....no more Field Gun competitions as too expensive..let's have a petition to get them reinstated...they were a real show piece for the three commands...

The Romans used Bugles & other horns long before drums were even a thing. No Roman monuments depict drums with the Roman Armies, but Tubular wind instruments are commonly shown. These have a much more distinctive, & penetrating sound than drums, & can be used to send complicated signals, to be heard over long distances. Drums only seem to appear, in western armies at least, sometime after the Crusades, & only become common in the post medieval era. They were possibly used by Turkish & other eastern forces much earlier than this, with western armies adopting them after conflict with these. The Bugle soon returned to dominate battlefield signalling, as the drum could not compete with cannon, so became relegated to a more ceremonial role, in drill, marches & parades.

I Feel like I've Stepped out of a Time Warp. It seems like Months since I've seen a Guard Change done entirely by The Boys & Girls in the Red Tunics & Bearskins. How Good is The Music Selection Today! Pathfinders! You've Read the Book (s) You've Seen the Movie (s), Now Hear the March! .... or Not. "Pathfinders" is one of those Strange Things that has Historical Significance to both the UK & the USA. In the Case of The USA, it was a Book written in 1840 about a Viking Boy, taken by Mohicans & raised as one of their own. When reaching Adulthood he was "Rescued" by American Soldiers, who eventually enlisted his services as a Guide & Tracker During the War with Mexico. The Original Movie "The Pathfinder" based on the Book by James Fenimore Cooper, was made in 1952, with Several Remakes, the latest being made in 2007. BUT Hollywood also made a Movie about The Pathfinders of WW2, called "The Pathfinders" or "The Pathfinders: In the Company of Strangers" in some Places, which Follows 3 Companies of American Paratrooper who Volunteer to Parachute into France to prepare a Drop Zone, with a Eureka Transmitter & Search light to Guide Airborne Troops from the 101st Airborne, 30 mins before the D-Day Landings. Which is all very Well. To The Rest of the World however, The Pathfinders, belong to The RAF. The Story was a Book "The Pathfinders: the elite RAF force that turned the tide of WWII" by Will Iredale & A Movie "The Pathfinders" was made in England's Pinewood Studios in the 1950's one of many telling of the Exploits of The RAF & Bomber Command, all leading to Probably the Best Known WW2 Airforce Movie ever Made, the 1969 "Battle of Britain", who's cast reads like the Who's Who of The British Motion Picture Industry. The British Pathfinder Movie, tells the Story of how a flight of Nos 7 & 83 Squadrons of Bomber Command Aircraft, Dropped Flares over the Target Area of a Raid over Germany, in desperation as Several Heavy Bombers Dropped their Bombs in the Wrong Area & Arriving Waves of Aircraft used the Resultant Fires as an aiming Point. The Flares worked so well that by 1942, Bomber Command set up the "Pathfinder Force" who job was to Drop Flares on Targets ahead of The Main Bomber Force. The Accuracy of Bombing improved so much that in 1943 Bomber Command expanded the Pathfinder Force to become a group, No. 8 (Pathfinder Force) Group, initially with 5 Squadrons, but growing to 19 by the end of the War, including 405 Squadron of The Royal Canadian Airforce. The Music played by The Coldstream Guards as a Static Piece at Wellington Barracks, seems to be a Fuller Version of the Opening Music for The Movie, Not as Well known as The Dam Busters or Battle of Britain Marches, but probably Well Known to The Pilots of Mosquitos & Lancasters that made up The Pathfinder Force. A Nice Job from The Coldstream Guards, who Followed up with 2 of my Top 10 Favourite Marches, Glorious Victory & Colchester Castle. I have to say the Bass Trombone in Red Men's March & Glorious Victory was Awesome! Raised the Hairs on the back of my Neck Nicely! My Favourite DM, SDM Gareth Chambers MVO & My Favourite Foot Guards Band, The Band of the Irish Guards had me tapping my Foot & put a Smile on My Dial for the Day, which made MOTH have a Huge Sigh of Relief. I notice the Bass Trombone Magic of Sgt David Lockwood too, Great Stuff! A Brilliant Job Mr B! Great Video & Brilliant Sound, really Noticeable when the Coldstream Guards exited to Men of Harlech! Don't tell me someone Ram Raided The BP Gates again!! I thought they'd Removed that Cash Point Machine. That Lad at the Back Carrying the Colour Cover is going to be a Big Lad when he Grows Up. He was at the Back of the Irish Guards heading down from SJP with the Old Guard. So now I have to ask, are those COD Guys Marching at the Back of the Bands & Carrying The Cover, attached to the Bands or are they Part of the Guards Detachment? Thanks for the Video Mr B!!

Thank you Vicky, some great info in your post, to be honest I only really related the Pathfinders to the planes that used to drop the flares before the raids, so was very interesting to learn other information. @@MrBaton74 You are not alone in that Mr B. The only reason I know is that I went to find the Movie I've seen a couple of times in the Past, to see if The Pathfinders March The Band of The Coldstream Guards played, was from the Movie Score. Once I found the Movie about the RAF Pathfinders, I could tell it was, although The Movie Version was not as Well Arranged as This Version, it was mostly Drums with the Melody taking a Backseat & rather Soft, interspersed with the Sound of The Rolls Royce Merlin Engines of The Mosquito Fighter Bombers, who were the First Pathfinder Force Aircraft. The Lancaster Heavy Bombers of the RAF & Royal Canadian Airforce came Later. It's always nice to be able to Link Marches to Actual Events, especially when they've been portrayed in Movies. MOTH is the equivalent to Delvin-Pedia when it comes to Old Movies. He's just as Full of Useless Information as I am Hahaha. Shame about the Gates, one would think the Palace would've Fixed it by now, especially with the State Visit by The Japanese. Highly unusual for BP Not to be all Pretty. R&M is usually paid for out of The Sovereigns Grant, though there were occasions The Late Queen paid for things from her own income. I suppose the Boarded up Gates are as meaningful as The Current State of The Monarchy's Manpower Shortage. Oh Well, Manana.

I can’t remember the last time we “chatted” so it’s great to hear from you. Yes thank you, I did thoroughly enjoy my experience watching the review LIVE! It’s a bit like comparing watching rugby on the tv as opposed to actually going to a match in that the views given by the cameras allow you to see more and from many angles BUT there’s no buzz from feeling the atmosphere when actually there. One complaint I have is that the programme didn’t have a photo of our favourite DM!!! How very dare they!🧐 I feel pretty despondent that it was announced that it was his final Kings Birthday Parade😔 However I’m hoping he’ll still be the main man when I pop back to London in a couple of weeks for the Military Musical Spectacular! @@AnnofWales21 Hi Ann!, I'm writing this from Melbourne Australia. First Day of The Symposium today, I stood up, Waffled on for 2 hrs, played my Power point Presentation, handed out my Reference Material, answered Questions for 1/2 an hour & escaped back to the Hotel at the end of the day. I daresay I made a complete Muff of it all, as well as total Egg of myself, but I flew the Flag for Kiwi Universities & can only hope I made such a poor Impression, I'll never be invited to address any Future Conferences again! Speaking of Rugby, I watched NZ & Wales Play in the Under 20 RWC on the flight over. Wales have 3 definite Youngsters who will go Far & will be Stars of the Future for sure. I will definitely keep an eye out for any Plane passing over on the way to Dunedin in Dec, especially one that's Waggling it's Wings or has a Cockpit Window open with someone's arm out & Waving! You never know, I may even take MOTH down South to Show him Arrowtown (my favourite place) as well as all the sights of the South. He's only been to Nelson thus far, but I've been promising him a Trip to Shantytown & Franz Joseph Glacier so I may Fulfil that in Dec, down the West Coast, across to Queenstown & Arrowtown, then up the East Coast. I do have rellies in Mornington, so you just never know! Enjoy The Musical Spectacular, my favourite was the 2022 one, The Queen & the Commonwealth. It's worth the Trip just to Ogle certain People, but it'll be interesting to see this years one. I readily admit, I was unimpressed with last years, it seemed to me to be getting a little to much like what the Edinburgh Tattoo has become, basically like A Cabaret with Dancing Girls & Military Musicians Singing while Military Bands play all sorts of Music Genres that pay little Attention to the Military Part. Each to their own, But I'm of an age when I remember The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, with the Entertainment being provided by The Military. Likewise I'm embarrassed by our Army Band, who perform as a Cabaret "Turn", which would have been more at home in The "Wheel-Tappers & Shunters Social Club" than a Military Tattoo or Spectacular. Still, I really hope you enjoy yourself. There are 100's of Pictures of GC around & he has a lot on his Facebook too. I know I've seen some of him on active Service in Iraq or Afghanistan, wearing his Fatigues, Helmet & Carrying a rather Menacing looking Firearm. MOTH who's somewhat an Expert on Firearms told me it was the one before the "Plastic" ones they carry now, I do vaguely remember at a Trooping the Colour & aa Birthday Parade when the Queen was 90 the embarrassment of a Number of Soldiers when they Moved their Firearms for the Royal Salute & there was a Clatter as Magazines Fell Out & the same again when they Shouldered Arms & the Bayonets fell off of some. GC did look very Much the Soldier & Not a Staff in sight. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I saw it. The Irish Guards had some good Photos of him all Dressed up in his #1's when he got his MVO. They're on the Website I Think. There's also an Audio & Interview on the Grenadiers Website too with Pictures, about Remembrance Day & his Interest in WW1. If all else fails hon, I believe he has an Office you could Storm at Wellington Barracks! Anyway Must go, I have to play Nice, Dinner with some Colleagues tonight, Oh Joy! @@vickyRoyalHistory Hi Vicky! Hope you’re well, yesssss sooooo enjoyed the Trooping! Front row seats as I said before AND I did see a quick shot of myself and sister (remember’front row, end seat, pink jacket 😊)but not sure if it was deliberate (according to your instructions 🤣) A cool day, cooler as the event went on but it did nothing to spoil our enjoyment and it was great to know that the troops would no doubt have welcomed it. I knew when I saw the first band coming in that there would be no royalty present as the SDM was not in state dress and in the circumstances I didn’t expect any. There was one odd thing happened, in the middle of the Trooping when the troops were slow marching around the square a woman climbed the steps , stood on the platform/landing and started taking pictures. I thought I wonder if that was allowed as she was completely blocking my view of the troops as they did their complicated corner turns (and many other peoples view too!) She stayed there but next thing the lovely guard who was allocated to our stand went up to her and I heard him say ‘Sorry madam but you can’t stand there’ she said she could as she was Army Media. He repeated that she couldn’t, she answered him but I couldn’t hear what she said, he repeated calmly and quietly what he’d said, by this time he had managed to get her down two steps. This went on with her trying to insist that she was allowed to do what she was doing until they reached the bottom step and she sort of disappeared. Even the guard doesn’t stand there unless he needs to give the spectators instructions. Imagine coming all that way for her to block the view! I thought army media were in uniform and had professional cameras, she was not in any uniform and was using her phone! I was so grateful for that guard. What a nerve she had. Anyway I hope things are good for you. 😊I thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. I had friends who flew over the night before, went to the Mall at 5am then flew back (to Belfast) that night. I have a Question Please, I know I said I wasn't going to ask anymore Questions, but I'm asking on Behalf, it's not seeming to be as easy as I thought it was going to be to Step Back, I keep getting Bombarded with E Mails, but I'm working on it. The Question is, Are those COD Guys Marching at the Back of the Bands & Carrying The Cover, attached to the Bands or are they Part of the Guards Detachment? Question is because he marched down from SJP with the Irish Guards Band, then Returned to WB with the Coldstream Guards Band. Of course, the Colour Cover is the one that came down from St James with the Old Guard I presume so does that mean he goes where that Particular Colour Goes?

@@vickyRoyalHistory Hello Dear Vicky!! Always love a question, so it's nice you asked! The Duty Drummer, in charge of carrying the Colours case and Signaling with his bugle is traditionally attached to the Guards detachment behind the Band. They usually follow their respective detachment and Colour. They usually march with the Band to St. James Palace as they don't stay with the detachment during they're Mount. They go back to Wellington Barracks with the Band. That's why we usually see them march behind the Bands before and after the full ceremony starts. Hope this answers your question, please do let me know if it hasn't! Stay safe, warm Huggz!! I haven't forgotten about your E Mail, don't feel abandoned!

@@delvinrodriguez3341 Thank you Delvin-Pedia, O Great Oracle, it all makes Perfect Sense. To be perfectly honest, I usually notice them at the Back of the Band, but apart from knowing they're the Keeper of The Colour Cover & from the Corps of Drums, I ignore them. After being asked via Email where they Belong & Noticing this very Tall Lad at the Back of The Band of The Irish Guards, it was easy to see him move. He's Built like a Scandinavian Racing Sardine, Tall & Thin, so he stood out & was easy to Spot at the Back of The Coldstream Guards. Another Bit of Info for my Dummy's Guide To the Bands & Regiments of the Household Division. All the other Drummers I've seen from the COD, seem to be of much less Height than this Lad, one can only Hope he's Stopped Growing or he may find himself being used as a Mobile Flag Pole! Never Fear, I've not given up hope that an Electronic Carrier Pigeon, who Survived the Pixel Mange Outbreak, will land Soon. Love to all at the Library! 🤗🤗😘

Great! Showing that an effective military is one that tolerates and accepts peoples from every background, sexuality, race, gender, religion or creed. Operational capability comes from being able to act as a single unit, without fear or intimidation or bullying.

Actually all the troops at the back volunteer to do this, and truthfully the band would enjoy this gig as this is one of the most appreciative crowds they get throughout the year, and they get to play fun music!
