What a combo! Nikon F100. The Nikon I consider the best overall user Nikon ever made. And, the Rollei 35SE, the last and best Rollei 35 model. It solves the "where am I going to get a battery for the meter" issue which applies to all models proper to the SE/TE models (except for the few with selenium cell meters). When I reach for a 35mm camera, it is one of these two. The old worry about damaging a leaf shutter by leaving it cocked doesn't really apply to the Rollei 35, where the shutter must be cocked to close the lens into the body. The shutter was specially designed and built for Rollei by Deckel (i.e., Syncho Compur). To maintain the camera's compact size, the shutter is built in two parts, one part on the base of the lens and the other surrounding the inside of the lens mount. When you pull out the lens and rotate it to a locked position for use, the two sections of the shutter connect and function. The shutter must be cocked to position the pieces so they unlock when the lens is collapsed into the body. I've owned several Rollei 35 models over a 40+ year period, and none of them have any "weak" shutter spring problems.

AFAIK you must keep the shutter button of the Rollei 35 pressed for the long shutter speeds. In your case the slow speeds are working fine because you can hear the whirring sounds. Almost every 35(S) i have come across has dried lubricants in the slow shutter speeds, causing the slow gears to run slow or not at all, keeping the shutter open (it is not caused by springs like you mentioned). It is a relatively easy fix if you have the right tools to remove the top plate. Light leaks are also quite common, sometimes the foam strip around the lens tube is worn out. This will show up as light leaks from the front, so if you use color film there is no orange glow from the film base visible.

Excellent buys, both are super fun for their own reasons 💪🎞 Mint is actually making a new 35mm compact based on the Rollei 35 housing too! Looking forward to all the new reviews 😁

Great choices! And they look fantastic. Worry not, KEH checked the shutter speeds in the presale process. Nice thing about the F100, I think repeatability is going to be a little easier. The F3 is fantastic but the F100 has more accurate metering. I think the film review is going to have less variables. Be careful opening and closing the back. Time has left the latch plastic on the door a little fragile.
