I am not new to teaching, but new to reading intervention! What a great topic and great recommendations! You so hit the nail on the head when you said not to reteach what is already being taught in the general ed. classrooms! That's exactly what they thought I should be doing. But it didn't make sense to me! Why teach them the same thing, when I can teach new tools and new methods, that coupled with what they're learning in the classroom would give students more insight and practice. You have answered so many of my questions as a new reading interventionist. Many of which I thought made sense, but I have been reluctant to share because I'm not sure if it will be accepted by teachers/administrators. Thank you for your channel and topics!

Last year was my first year in intervention, I loved it but left it due to being overly used to sub for teachers in all grade levels, then I was put to cover a class after spring break until the EOY. I decided to go back into the classroom at the grade level of my choosing and a school closer to my house. 😥 Interventionists are considered as subs too in my area. I did love intervention maybe next year I'll go back once the teacher/sub shortage levels out.

I’m worried about that as well. This will be my first year as an interventionist. When I was a librarian, I was pulled all the time, and that was back in 2018.

That is a huge problem with the sub shortage! Schools have to understand that kids won't progress until value is placed on the intervention time. I hope you can get back to it!

It happens far too often. Do your best to make it clear you are a last resort only. Try to protect that time with kids.

Any tips for math intervention? I have 22 years experience and next year I will be both reading and math intervention for 3rd-5th grade students.

Hi Alesha! There is a reason I teach reading and not math 😆 But there are some universal tips: base your groups on data, progress monitor frequently, keep the group size small, and focus on the foundations. Hope that helps!
