Based heavily on the oh-so popular Trident 660 yet developed at the same time and using the same three-cylinder 660cc engine, here comes the latest in a long line of new Triumphs for this year and next; it's the Tiger Sport 660 and we got to poke around and enjoy a jolly detailed look around the new bike for 2022.
In this video, BikeSocial's Michael Mann quizzes Triumph's Head of Brand Management, Miles Perkins, about the A2-compliant sports tourer.

For the bump in price over the competition I think they've missed a trick by not having cruise and a center stand. As someone who uses my bike all rear around for everything from commuting to weeks away this would've been perfect for it had those two features.

You can buy a plastic throttle lock for $20 bucks that works fine. Centerstands suck as they always end up dragging and they don't give like footpegs. And the levers often get in the way of feet when moving riding with toes on the pegs. Buy the spools and use jackstands. Gives you much better access to do things like change tires.

Apparently they talked to potential customers when they did their market research and not many wanted these features (check out min. 09:00 of this video). Also one could check every other video's comments section about this bike to see if the Triumph's decision was right or not...

I'm sorry but it doesn't matter what continent you ride on, a centre stand is an absolute must to have on a bike that has the potential to tour, as this bike clearly does. Also how about putting decent mudguards on this bike front and back. This is a cracking bike, I love it, but having no centre stand on it, well I just don't understand the logic.

I must be in the minority here but I can't say that I've ever felt the need for cruise control on a motorcycle. As for a centre stand, that's definitely useful for cleaning the bike, parking in the garage, lubing the chain and loading panniers. However I appreciate that packaging EU5 compliant after treatment trumps the need for a centre stand so an essential compromise maybe. My general observation on most new motorcycles is that mudguards seem to be considered fashion items by the designers so the first 'accessories' to consider fitting by someone who intends riding in UK conditions are rear huggers and front mudguard extenders. I hope that these two items are on the list of 40 accessories as it's nice to get a bike sorted from day 1 with OEM parts that are designed to fit and have been properly tested on that bike. Overall I'd say it should be a great bike with a sensible level of performance for touring/commuting and general riding fun. Good work Triumph, looking forward to seeing one in the flesh and maybe riding one in the not too distant future👍👍.

The time you add what you want to make it rideable all year round, you might as well go for a better model. I've had three triumph's now, just buy a model fully loaded. Triumph get annoying when a model is brought out and then charging rediculous amounts for accessories or a paint job.

I guarantee they have lost a few sales by omitting cruise control. If it's got all the modes and buttons, how hard or expensive can it be to add cruise? Ooh, Triumph… This one is sorely tempting. I’ve always opted for a rack and top-box - but, having seen the panniers and those genius fixings, I hope other manufacturers will take notice. I really don’t mind paying extra for a centre-stand because that item remains a personal choice for many, however, by not offering cruise-control and heated- grips as standard on a touring bike is penny-pinching on an otherwise beautiful product. P.S. I’m not just a dry weather biker. Please consider designing a full-length front mudguard that doesn’t spray road sh*t over the lovely front pipes - or my boots & textile jeans.

Agreed and isn't that what the Tiger 1200 is meant to deliver - but in an adventure style? I'm a bit confused with Triumph's model range because theres a market for a traditional tourer e.g. Ninja thou and the new suzuki, so wouldn't it be an obvious move to stick the 1200 engine into this for touring? For those not into the 'Adventure' lifestyle?

Nice bikes that will surely fit well in the marketplace. However, it doesn't look like the rider can move around a lot on the seat. One thing though; I've personally never been keen on top-boxes (I think they look daft) and because of the placement behind the rear axle they can not hold much weight because it ruins the steering of the bike, just about a helmet or two. When will manufacturers make a top-box support frame that can fold/glide in and also sit on top of the pillion seat and so be a much more practical carrier box that can take heavier loads?

I must admit, I do like the balance of technology (Goldilocks) that Triumph are providing, Rain/Road rider modes, preload adjustment on the rear, a nice dash, optional quick shifter etc. Not sure if they have cruise control as an optional extra, I’m sure that’s going to be a big one for some bikers and would put them ahead of their competitors.

The integrated luggage system is great, I don't know why other models and makes don't have them. Kawasaki, Yamaha, BMW and even my Aprilia Caponord managed it without having major scaffolding stuck on the rear end of their bikes when the panniers are removed. The days of precariously bungee cording bags to the rear seat and rack should be banished to history. I owned a Tiger 1050 in the past and now own a Versys 650 so this has my interest. My dream bike would have been the street triples engine and higher spec brakes and suspension and I would pay the price tag for that. I just don’t need a liter sized engine, but I don’t want the budget brakes and suspension of the lower cc options. Anyway I’m curious how this bike works out. For me the tanks a bit too small in comparison to the magnificent range the Versys 650 gets on 87 octane, a solid 250 miles and if you ran it to empty about 275. The Tiger was more like 180 miles and to dry about 200-215. I doubt this will go 230 miles on 17 liters, maybe to totally dry but nobody rides a bike like that so subtract .5 gallons of range. Because I do a lot of long range touring on the Versys (which is also an amazing twisty backroads bike, short wheelbase and near supersport geometry) this bike is DOA for me due to fuel range alone. It might have a bit more character in the triple but the parallel twin on the Versys is great in its own way and fun to ring it’s neck in twisty’s while being totally calm and quiet on long rides which is less fatigue. And I owned the 1050 triple so I know how good they can sound and be. But an effective 4 gallon tank on this bike is a downer. I highly doubt it will match the V650’s twin in MPG. I’d guess upper 40’s if taking it easy. So probably 180-190 miles real world range.

His answer that survey with focused groups reveal what people wanted is totally BS. Just look at the comments here, cruise control and center stand is obvious. The reason they didn't put those in is to prevent this bike to cannibalise sales of the Tiger 900.

If you like triples then this seems a good option for some. I prefer twins. Was the wet weight mentioned?
@bennettsbikesocial
@bennettsbikesocial 2 жыл бұрын
Good point. Perhaps not but it's 206kg (wet) which is 10kg heavier than the Tracer 7 but 11kg lighter than the Versys 650.

I think my Versys has a 21l tank ! It's like the love child of a Versys and a Tracer 700 , Well done you have literally brought nothing new to the party ! If you fully spec this bike to a Versys grand tourer standard I'd like to see the price difference ! .....and no trinkets and baubles do not justify a higher price imho ( or you badge ) ....you haven't even made the Showa forks adjustable ! Own goal from me I'm afraid !

It's a sport touring bike and has everything you needs for a good price. You want more touring comforts, you can add as an option. It doesn't need longer suspension nor a 21 inch front. Its not a touring bike anymore and it will lose the great price point. I think Triumph should explain a little more as to whom this bike is geared towards.

Seems like a nice bike. Triumph's designers have been quite busy the past few years.

After having cruise on my Tiger 900 GT Pro, I would have a hard time buying another bike without it, especially here in the US on our long straight boring interstates.

A centre stand should be standard on any touring style bike. Even with a HD chain and scotoiler I have to adjust the chain once in a week's touring holiday of 2000 plus miles.

All the triples minus the crazy crank 900 and 1200 ......were butter smooth but golly the 800's were droning on at high rpm on the highway. Wound tight. It's always something I guess.

Not really bothered by tft display as the tiger 900 have had issues. I personally would be happier with centre stand, heated grips and better mudguard protection and I think they are really essential for this class of bike. Still an awesome bike I am sure and would love to compare to the versys 650 or see a comparison video against its rivals.

Love all the new Triumphs and Yamahas ... I have a 12 year old BMW F800 ST and think it seems to be a very similar bike in many ways especially the Tiger ...Ok not so many toys to play with but considering what the Tiger has been designed for I do feel that BMW with the ST and GT got there first ...

Middleweight sport tourer is an appropriate description, not ADV. For that you need at least 19" front to be a Ducati style pretender, or 21" to be a proper ADV bike. That said, this is a very attractive middleweight bike. What do the two models weigh, including fluids and 80% full of gas?

I agree with the cruise control & center stand comments made already, but I suppose Triumph is very conscious of price point. The front brakes .... sliding calipers seem so 1985. What do the competitors have? Maybe all of these elements are sitting on the shelf, waiting for version 2.0. (Along with adjustable suspension?)
