The New Education Policy, 23 states in India have already implemented this policy. The Karnataka Education Department in July mandated that the minimum age limit for admission to class 1 in schools in Karnataka should be six years as of June 1. Currently, the age limit is 5 years and 5 months.
What is the Right Age for Class 1? CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) states that a child should be 6 years old or older to be admitted to class 1.

My child is born on April 5th 2017. She'll have to loose 2 years only because she's short by 4days. She's already finished grade 1 and next year she'll again be denied admission to grade 2 because she'll fall short by 4 days. How many years should I make my child repeat 1sr grade for no fault of hers? She's an excellent student. How can we stop children from being born in April as they'll always stand at a disadvantage? Can the government ensure children are only born in certain months and not in April and May?

Many of the state has min age limit below 4 yrs. In Mumbai it's 4 years as on 31st dec for that particular academic year... Means it's 3.5 years as on May 31st. I think this rule is in karnataka only.

Respected madam, My daughter is studying grade 1 in CBSE board tamilnadu. Her DOB is Dec 2017..I planned to change her school on another cbse board for grade 2. But they are not giving admission for grade 2. They are telling me to repeat once again in grade 1 for the coming academic year (2024). How to proceed ma'am..in future If she changes school in higher class or in 10th board exam will it affect her.. and those who go for 10th board minimum age should be 14, it's about appearing board exam time should be 14 minimum enough or the board academic yr initially they have to complete 14? kindly help me ma'am. I guess you don't have a problem. It will be applicable only to kids who are going to take admission for 1st standard in 2025-2026 academic year. By that time if they crossed 6 then no problem if they are below 6 like 5 years 11 months 29 days also be a problem. That is what I understand from her statement.

As the child is JULY born, the child is not eligible for LKG. Even when some school take her for LKG admissions when she gets into Grade 1 she would not meet meet the eligibility criteria for Grade 1. Then she will have to repeat UKG. You can take a call based on yours and schools decision on considering both the options.

He is eligible. This rule applies for the students who take admission for grade 1 in 2025 -26 academic Session.

Only for the sake of 10 days my child cannot be be admitted to school.. and this days and 1 or 2 month short for 4 years and 6 years are not a big thing.. for LKG 3 years 11 months and for 1standard 5 years 11 months are more enough... The child can pick up.. the kids will waste one hole year. Even parents money waste.. And as the child grows up it will get disturbed... Hope you agree at this point.. The government has to take this age order back.. and let the school run as before..
