seiko has always done the see-through caseback on the 5 line because it is a gateway into the world of automatic watches, and being able to see the casebakc is a big selling point for people getting their first automatic.

I mean Seiko didn’t make any 5’s with display casebacks until the late 2000’s or early 2010’s. Considering Seiko 5 started in the 1960’s, I’d say seiko definitely HASNT always done display casebacks and actually has only started doing that recently.

This has a real attractiveness in its simplicity and I think Seiko finally got it right on the case size. They hit that sweet spot that really could be comfortable on a majority of wrists. At this price point its not a watch I would worry about opening and adding a sapphire crystal. I am also looking to add a Grand Seiko to my collection this year, (I think I've settled on and SBGH273, I found one but sat on my hands to long and lost it, oh well.) wondering what you are looking at.

I'm really liking the Seiko SRPH33 colorway of this update. The orange over black dial/black case with the black/orange strap is pretty wild for Seiko. I may have to pick this up when the price comes down from $300 to about $175.

Exactly the right upgrades to justify the price increase from the old SNK80x line. So glad to see Seiko still doing watches right at the right price point, when they want, anyway.

I recently took a chance on a Bernie pilot watch from aliexpress with domed sapphire, screw down recessed crown, and hardened steel with Seiko movement that has impressed me enough to not want another pilot watch for a while.

Picked up this same model at the same price from Amazon as well...complete with beat up boxes. That said, it'll satisfy its purpose as a travel watch with low theft potential that will "dress up" a bit with a leather strap. So far, it seems to run fast at ~+10s/day. Like the look quite a bit as it reminds me of my father's WWII pilot watch the he wore for years after the war winding it dutifully every evening--so it's got some nostalgic appeal as well. (I tossed the boxes.)

Seiko/GS are an incredible company. The cool thing to do is pile on anytime someone sees them do something wrong. But boy oh boy, are we letting a lot of brands off the hook by doing the cool thing

Love the look, color scheme, and fit of the watch. The lume looks cool too. But as a lefty, mineral/handlex is essentially a feal-breaker for me.

The new srpg line is 39.4mm. it has an identical case as this watch but with a field watch dial. Same case & crystal. They just changed the dial & hands. Cool though, it's like the snk 37mm updated.

Nice upgrade from the snk809 line. I know from the snk809 line the bands were terrible. Welcomed that they made the case a more appropriate size. The orange lume looks cool

Pretty sharp. Seiko really lags behind in some areas, which is just odd, considering what they are capable of. I know the brand means a lot for fans, but just so many options now. I picked up a Seiko homage (GS homage actually) for $169, sapphire, great lume, killer dial and excellent strap. Granted, they get no credit for the design, which is Seiko's, but the quality is sure impressive for the price point. And yup Amazon shenanigans! Always frustrating. My first Bulova Precisionist ever, years ago, arrived in a destroyed box from Amazon. Thankfully, the watch was fine. Other times it's been great -- my Alpina Heritage Diver arrived with the full AD perks. Just depends, I guess.

Great Video & Totally agree! For example You can get an Islander $199 with sapphire & same movement with screw in crown. Im pretty sure Seiko would still have a larger profit margin than Long island watch with a sapphire option. I guess greed is more important 😭

Amazon has a decent return policy. Watch is usually sold from a secondary watch store that does business with Amazon. Nice watch, I was looking at the SRPH33, the orange and yellow black out version.

The biggest factor on how a watch looks on wrist is the lug to lug measurement . I have 7 inch wrist and 47mm lug to lug seems to work best for me. For case diameter 38 to 41mm is best but I do have some watches at 42 up to 45mm

Great review ! I think this watch is really great Honestly feels it’s price. I picked up the green one quite recently. Also I Absolutely agree: The orange highlighted pips are so refreshing and pop so nice. And the hands, Being a hybrid between sword and syringe in my opinion are super legible, big fan. Awesome stuff

They no longer have the 7S26 movement, those are going into the Lorus and Pulsar brands now.

I'm going to guess, the reason the hang tag not being attached and the manual missing, are because this watch was bought by someone, worn then returned back to amazon. They sold it to you at a better price because it was a return and not NIB.

Nice - are you the first to review one of these? I saw these on the Seiko site about a month ago and was wondering why no one had jumped on them. A modern SNK80x! Seems like it will be pretty big, if for no reason other then nostalgia.

I own this watch from Seiko. What attracts me to it is the amazing dial design. The strap is very nice too. I do also believe that it should have been fitted with a sapphire crystal, but this domed hardex with AR coating is very nice.

I think it’s a nice evolution to the SNK80x series. However I agree with your statement that it’s nothing special. Sure it’s an affordable watch, but at full retail price there are far superior brands out there, albeit with lesser known names, some micro brands and that could affect resale value if you’re just buying the watch to sell it.

Not bad of an improvement over the old SNK80x lineup. Since I have a SNK809 already I think I'll pass on this one, as if I bought another flieger style watch it would likely be a Laco.

I have the Military version with Roma numerals and been wearing it for 1 month and it's exceptionally good. I compared it to the Hamilton Khaki equivalent which is double a more in price and l am so happy l diidnt purchase the Hammilton

I agree with the desire for a Sapphire crystal, and the willingness to sacrifice the back to get there. In the end, it's handsome, I just wish there was less glare off the crystal.

I'm getting one , I love it . It also reminds me of a Casio field watch from the 90s . I would have the second hand swapped for a bright orange one . The new logo is stupid .

Nice review. I was waiting for someone to do a review on these new models. I think this is a worthy successor to the classic SNK line. The black and orange SRPH33 is different and interesting. I hope they come out with more colorways like cream dial and versions that come on bracelet. Seiko is moving away from including manual in box. I've never had an issue with amazon watch purchases. Sucks that the box is bashed up as that will affect resale value for collector types.

Does the orange lume last? It appears to! I would say if Seiko has figured out to make orange lume actually last as long as their green and blue Lumibrite, then they are indeed lume masters. I've never been disappointed by any Seiko lume. And, anything but green and blue lume, such as orange, generally doesn't last long at all. If not in the case, u have to give them some extra bonus props for making non-green/blue lume last longer than any other brand has. This is not an easy thing to do well. Colored tritium tubes are different tech and don't count. I'm talking about very good lume paint performance. The watch is cool for under $200, BTW.

I bought a Casio G-Shock from Amazon and it survived because it was a G-Shock. They tossed the box in an envelope so the box was utterly destroyed. I ordered this watch yesterday also from Amazon. I really hope they don't do the same thing again although it wouldn't surprise me at all.

First - Nice video! I love Seiko, and own several Seiko autos and vintage quartz watches... On this new, b-style flieger timepiece: Seiko still missed the mark (literally) by not luming the classic triangle index @ 12:00! Personally, one of my main complaints about the SNK80x's. The new, orange cardinal markers are great - but 12:00 always needs to be easily distinguishable, at a glance, in the dark, on-or-off the wrist! Geeez... As for the other improvements...anyone who owns a 7s26 movement knows how to "hack" the movement - if necessary. Hand winding, eh... 40mm, eh... Domed Hardlex, eh... Another big miss, for me, is the crown @ 3:00... I love the crown @ 4:00 position - especially on my SKX173. Way more comfortable, IMO - and pretty unique. Since you can still purchase all of the SNK80x's - 95% of the watch, at < half the cost - it'll be interesting to see how these sell. Thanks for posting!

Agree it's a returned (hence used/warehouse deal watch) typically $100 reduced at that price point. It's not reduced price deal it's a returned warehouse deal.

I got ithe black version SRPH33 from Amazon, the package was ok but missing manual. Also the watch date numerals printings was not clean, missing white paint on a number. Poor QC. Got it at a great price but had to return because of the QC issue :(

Seiko at some of their best! Yeah... Amazon. I've been unpleasantly surprised by them a few times, also. I think they gamble on sending out the damaged stuff with the idea that most people won't take the time or effort to return small ticket items. If they didn't do this, I think they would have warehouses full of returns and that would be bad for the bottom line. I would never, I think, purchase a high end watch from Amazon even though they offer them. Dropping thousands for a sight unseen Swiss, or Grand Seiko with the chance of getting a scratched piece just doesn't appeal to me.

Nobody sells that watch for $ 175.00 , pretty much is from $ 240.00 and up , you were lucky to find the watch at that price due to the damaged box . I psid $ 240.00 for mine in Amazon .

I’m guessing the hands are shaped and colored that way that they are so as to resemble the the hand(s) of an altimeter. It’s a pilot’s watch after all.

It's as if Seiko are trying to price themselves out of business, even for a Seiko fan their prices are so out of touch, especially when the specs are NOWHERE near what the price dictates these days. It really is no surprise to see so many Chinese watches flood the market at MUCH less AND with better specs.

The non-hacking version, when it first came out was under $80. Even at today's prices, the watch has essentially doubled in price for hacking and hand winding but nothing else has been improved.

I've never scratched a hardlex crystal on any of my seiko's, don't understand the hate it gets. If you get a sapphire here they will have to cut costs on the AR coating which is a downgrade for me compared to hardlex with liberally applied AR. Like others are commenting, I'll wait until the price drop on these and pick one up

Basically, I don't want to see hardlex anymore these days. With their economical power and the advantage of scale they should manage to upgrade their watches to sapphire at an unsignificant surcharge. I mean, while we're at complaining about the buckle and what microbrands can offer...

Watch strap is awful looking. On a field watch bright orange is not a colour you’d want the enemy to see. Stick to tradition. This smacks of having one eye on fashion.

Wow, this upgrade is exactly was I was wating for! Dunno if I want the blue or the green. The black would be cool some years ago, but too juvenile for me now.
