I don't see that being a problem unless you scratch the reel in that specific area which seems difficult, then may cause abrasion and fray your line.

Its due to the size diameter of the line rolller the Penn Torques roller is smaller that changes the line angle and i bought a VSX 200 when i heard about the new designed that always has to work the bugs out.

The line roller is usually the first thing to wear on these van staal reels so they made it so you can easily swap them out. Not a big deal never had an issue over the years with mine

I have 6, been using them for 17 years, and have a professional guiding business with around 19 VS in use of 9 years, I can honestly say they are the best reels overall, not the smoothest overall (never designed to be) but definitely the most reliable in tough conditions and have an excellent service record. Have I seen a couple of Friday reels over the years?, yeah about two, but they were sorted out pronto by VS warranty. Sorry, but people often like to say controversial stuff for fun, but ask anybody on the stripers forum or world fishing forum, who actually HAS a VS, what they think and you will get a similar reply. @@mrnuts3317
