Well that Mayo study is very interesting for me, as I researched a lot of shear-thinning and shear-thickening fluids during my master's degree, and some during my PhD. For these kind of food, viscosity is very important but it usually behaves in weird manners. However, their behavior can be predicted by using some non-Newtonian viscosity model. Those models basically describe the fluid in a way that they become either thicker or thinner when subject to stress. In fluid mechanics, the stress is proporsional to the variations of velocity of the fluid, therefore, they can feel thicker or thinner when you act on them. I can't access the paper right now, but I would guess they study how to make vegan mayo that is mechanically simmilar to egg mayo by comparing its change of viscosity when it moves in a controlled enviroment, and adjusting to the model parameters for different proportion of ingredients. Maybe nobody really cares about this but I find it really interesting.

@ronhumphreys3762

Roy Taylor the principal behind current thought on it scientifically puts it at internal interstitial fat which accumulates in the pancreas and liver, hindering insulin response and eventually atrophying the pancreas. This can be seen by imagery. The way out is invariably if not to far gone, weight loss. So any diet that does that will improve it. Why do skinny people at times develop type two..some predominate fat in that area. As some predominate other areas suchly like those who accumulate mainly just surface fat,. Others internal. But fat is the thing with type two..
@northerncoloradotransparen1454

Animal fat consumption plugs cells, digestion, and arteries which leads to the dysfunction of your intramyocellular function. If you remove the animal fats, processed oils, and processed trans fats from your diet the cells will operate correctly absorbing all vitamins,, nutrients, and amonos from fruits and vegetables at a much higher rate providing the fuel the human body needs and it is not dead animals. Meat is highly processed, and also a known carcinogen. It has also been stated by 3 different world organizations to be unhealthy, cause cancer, and multiple warnings to reduce the consumption greatly for human and planetary health!@@ronhumphreys3762

But hey smoking was not a problem and needed 7000 studies to prove it is causing cancer. Harvard T CHan.? NAtional Institute of Health? CDC? According to new research published last week in the American Journal of Nutrition, two weekly servings of unprocessed red meat is associated with a 51% higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes.1. Only the most expensive disease on earth?!?!? Causing species extinction, fresh water pollution, land degradation, rainforest destruction, ocean dead zones, and disease everywhere. Type 2 diabetes means the body isn’t able to properly use insulin. Some people will be able to manage their diabetes with dietary modifications while others may need medication. Animals living in petri dishes? Needing all of the antibiotics (causing antibiotic resistance) and finally in 2023 the USDA has stepped in to regulate antibiotic use in animals? Even though it has always been highly regulated in humans? Seems like there is a BIG LIE in that in and of itself. Common sense!? It is the leading cause of pandemics throughout human history, obesity, cancer, and diabetes. Your not up to speed on the science and studies. I work with diabetics but only as a patient rep. The ones I am comfortable talking to I tell to watch Forks Over Knives. I'd like to know for diabetics who have had several amputations, what would a whole plant based diet do for them?
@ronhumphreys3762
@ronhumphreys3762 5 ай бұрын
I am not mic obviously but Roy Taylor who is a recognized authority and published in the ADA says diabetes type two is reversible but not if it is to far gone. A person with amputations is probably very long term a type two diabetic. So cure would seem almost impossible. The cure is invariably tied into weight loss. Since a WFPB produces by study peoples with lowest BMI comparatively we can assume it would help to stop it from getting worse. Since they would be insulin dependent at that stage probably, they would have to tailor their diet to insulin amounts proscribed adjusting the two with the new diet in mind. If not insulin dependent attention would have to be given to not consume to much in simple sugars present in most fruits and other items. With active diabetes sugar and glucose must be monitored strictly. So a professional dietitian working with a doc, would be best to identify a special diet for the patient that may include WFPB as prime.

can you also investigate copper levels? because vegans get like 4x the RDA and some say that is bad and give them trouble with copper/zinc status leading to copper load conplaints

Hey Mic! Love the channel, and just realized I wasn't subscribed (fixed). Magnesium would be interesting, but something I'm curious about is any analysis out there that shows the 10 or 20 wealthiest nations and how closely their farm subsidies align to their nutritional guidelines. Here in the US our plate is well represented by fruit, veg, grains and "protein" (with the obligatory side dish of dairy, of course), but our subsidies are damn near entirely supporting meat, dairy, eggs and grains (I believe primarily subsidizing grains for the use as animal feed). I'm interested to know if all wealthy nations are as incompetent as we are with respect to executing food subsidy to recommendation alignment, or if this is a uniquely American quirk.

Yes those that listen to the ten year old protein studies found in protein aholic and the plant docs who base their opinions on that old stuff need to examine protein needs carefully if losing weight or a athlete. They start to put things together in a false way such as protein causes kidney disease which it does not, but has to be lowered when one has kidney disease. So I say study protein thoroughly to remand any false outdated theory.

Veganphobia is real and it is wrong. 😢 Being cruel to animals is one thing, but being cruel to those who try to defend them, is a whole other level of psychopathy. 🌀 I’m always happy, for the animals, to hear new vegans state out loud, that Animal Liberation is the true goal of veganism. ❤ I hope everyone continues to talk about ethics and doesn’t back down even when the veganphobes attack. 🐓🐖🐄🐑🐇 It is our moral duty to be “out of the closet” as vegans because the victims need us to share their stories. 🍏 If you imagine yourself as the one being harmed, wouldn’t you want someone to raise their voice to try to protect you? Of course you would! 🩵 I hope everyone reading this will gather strength and be more vocal. 📢 Being an outspoken vegan isn’t the most we can do. The case study seemed interesting so I took a look: all 4 lost significant weight, no information was given on pre-intervention diet, though this being India, likely they were vegan or vegetarian already, so the diabetes remission would have been mostly due to increased strength exercise and weight loss. A good result nonetheless, and, I think, really highlights type 2 diebetes as a glucose clearing / energy abundance problem.

Hey, Mike, I got into a debate with my roommate and he said that the Moriori are among the healthiest because their diet consists of everything from muscles and fish, to seals, and sea birds. That they're among the strongest groups of people but that feels like bullshit lol what do you think?

I'd guess the simple answer is that since claims about the Maasai & Inuit have been debunked, the paleo crowd have looked for new heroes to exaggerate their claims on. Quick fact check, is "life expectancy at birth is 73.2 years for women and 69 years for men". As the population of the Chatham Islands is only 660, it seem a very small sample to base any claims on, with a strong 'survivor bias' as historically average life expectancy was about 32, with around a third of the population dying in infancy. By all accounts, they lived a hellish life. If they were "the strongest", why did they have their land stolen by Maoris who went on to kill & eat some of them by way of staking their claim on it, before enslaving the rest. Read up on the history.

I relate to the stat about veganism for cancer (for health) being more readily accepted than veganism for ethics (like, actual veganism :). I went "vegan" (plant based) for cardiovascular health after a heart attack a number of years ago, and it was easily accepted, and even lauded. When I later took up the ethical stance once the "meat goggles" (thanks Mic) were off, it was much less accepted.

Despite what a famous plant doc says in his book title how not to die and how not to age we all do. There are three things the longevity community agree upon now for long life, diet exercise and community, and of course no bad habits drugs alcohol smoking. You need all three to live longest. Longest for you, genetics determines probably at least half of lifespan.

Strange ethically no one bothers me about it, seeing it as personal. I leave it at though do not try to convince them. Health no there is much push back and they think I am stupid in that. I do think it healthy but will not make you live forever or not ever age like some health vegan docs say So I think they are seeing them not me.

@@ronhumphreys3762 I think many people are accustomed to the concept of "my doctor told me to eat ... [insert action - less meat, more vegetables, less, ... ]", in connection to medical conditions. So eating a diet of whole plant foods in that context isn't too threatening to them. Whereas ethical reasons to not eat animals are a direct threat to their concept of morality and normalcy. The survey kind of supports that view of it Dr, Greger's titles leave something to be desired, should have the word "Prematurely" tacked on. Which would be less catchy. He obviously doesn't mean the titles to be taken literally, but he leaves himself open to facile criticisms because of them. He's on target with a lot of what he says, though I think he over complicates things for an average person's needs. Just eat a variety of whole plant foods, don't be afraid of starches, make sure to eat enough, and there ya go.

@@tspicks4360 Agree on greger generally but the title it to likely incite interest and not by accident. His proceeds from book sales go to his charity, but the other part not mentioned is his charity pays his salary. I think this may be a age thing. I do find older folks acting in that manner. Younger folks they don't seem to mind moral variance. Older folks you tell them my doc says so it is like a edict from god ;) Morality no they are set firmly in that.Don't want to hear your thing in that.
