Yeah, I actually wanted to do 15s, but Falken doesn't make the tire I have in a 15 inch size that I want. Oh well, these are good enough. :)

You can make the roller spring perches if you have a welder also. You can purchase the DIY kit from Dazecars. I did this and it worked out well.

You use your existing perches I think the kit was 50 bucks it was well worth the money

Yes- I second this recommendation. You may also want to look at Viking coil overs available from Opentracker as well. Great ride quality and adjustable height. Check out the Bilstiens for the rear shocks. John at Opentracker is a great guy to talk to.

American Racing makes several versions of the wheel I have, and various backspacing amounts too. Also, not all 225/50 tires are the same size (externally). Lastly, the total amount lowered can also play a role. I too rolled my fenders, but it was several weeks later and I never had any rubbing issues, I just did it as I have different plans down the road.

I am not familiar with the backspacing needed for the '68, but there is a spreadsheet online (I don't recall where) that lists the wheel size, backspacing, and tire size that fits all the Mustang years. I do know that you can go larger with your tire size than I can, so the most meat you can put out back, the better. :)

Yeah, this video was quite a while ago, a lot has changed since then. :)

I don't recall the ride height, but I cut 1/2" coil off the new front springs then it has settled a little bit since then. For the rear I went with 4.5 leaf Mid-Eye springs, which is about 1" lower than stock, then I put a 1/2" block between the leafs and axle to get a 1-1/2" total drop. Those leafs has settled a little bit too, but that's what I was expecting.

Thanks! No clearance problems. You are likely referring to Backspacing issues. I found that there was fewer Backspacing options in the 16" wheels I was looking at compared to the options on the 15" wheels.

Wider tires and stickier tires will do wonders for the car. The wider and stiff sidewall tires don't give like tall and skinny tires do. The stickier tires will do more for braking than the standard upgraded disc brakes we put on our cars. In terms of improved handling, go with sticky tires, stiffer springs, and larger sway bars. But it can get expensive quickly. :)

Thanks! No turning or rubbing issues. I have since lowered the car and done quite a bit of other suspension related mods. Looking back I think I’d rather have the 15” wheels because I think meatier tires look better on classic cars, but I’m also not able to get the sticky Azenis tires in the preferred size, so I had to do 16” wheels.

That's the correct hole size, and shank style lugs would not fit even if all the bolt holes were 0.65 inches. :)

This particular wheel model is limited on available backspacing options. I would have liked to get 3.75" BS, but it wasn't available in this size and bolt pattern. I chose the 16" wheel because of the tires size I wanted (I couldn't get what I wanted in a 15" tire). Tires are Falken Azenis 225/50/16.

I purchased these wheels off Ebay, it was the best deal at the time. I agree, I would have like a slightly different offset, but in the 16x7 size and this particular style, the options were extremely limited.

Thanks! Overall, I think a 15" wheel, or more so a meaty tire, looks better on classic cars. However, there are a handful of classic cars I've seen that look fantastic with 17 inch or larger wheels. But those cars usually are done in a way that the build works well with those wheels and in a way the those larger wheels also compliment the build. I don't have the funds to take this car into the crazy world of custom fabrication and exotic parts, so I compromised and went with these 16 inch wheels. That being said, I have since began to wish I had gone with 15s. I am leaning towards these cars look good on 15s or go larger like 17s or more. The 16 inch wheel sort of fits in this weird area where it almost doesn't fit the car. While I could sell these and buy a different size, I just don't have the cheddar to absorb that loss right now, I need all the money I can get to put towards new parts or fixing or areas of the car. :)

Being blue collar and having a 3yr old and a 5 month old… She’s not getting done anytime soon! I’m right there with you with meaty tires. I love me some meats. Those 16’s do well. I may even go that route also.

American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels, 4 inch backspacing (part number VN2156765). Falken Azenis RT615K+ tires, sized 225/50/16 Order wheels from Ebay, tires from TireRack.

Torq Thrust II, part number VN2156765 I wanted the original style (with the straight spokes, not the curved spokes), but they don't make them in the size I was going for. I'm half tempted to sell these and get the 15" wheel because I can get the spoke style I want as well as the backspacing that looks really good on these cars.

@@dannydinwin I really like the style of the Torq Thrust wheels, specifically the Original style in a 15x7 with 3.75" backspacing (-6mm Offset). The part number for the specific wheels is VN3095765, and they have the straight spokes I was talking about earlier. It's the same wheel I had on my previous Mustang (I have videos about it on my channel). I was not able to get that same backspacing with the 16" wheels I have now, but I may try so spacers to get the same effect. Also, I'd put 225/60/15 tires on those wheels. I really liked the way they looked on my last car and I'm wondering if I made the right choice with this car. :)

The 225s are fine, I wish I had wider tires, but it comes at the cost of a wheel size I want in a wheel style I don't want. Meaning, I cannot get the width and offset I desire in this wheel style, so I have to settle for the size I have and 225s. :)

I got some cheap handloom 205s just to help the car roll and now's it's been almost 2 years and i just hate how skinny they are but on the original 14s there's not a ton of options.. seen some videos of guys getting up into 245s and ever bigger and it looks like what i want but then finding the rims is a nightmare. Thought about rolling out the fenders to buy some more space? Or are you more worried about rim sizing and spacing?

I rolled my fenders to make what I have work, but I would have happily done it anyways if it meant a wider tire. I'm not trying to build a full restoration car or show winner, I want performance, even if it means "cutting up" the car. But I say that with tongue in cheek, I also have a budget, so that plays a big role too. :)

@@AndyKruseChannel so no tubs and 315s in your future yet? Did you not stagger the tires for a reason?

I think tubs are more than what I want to do right now with this car. It's a major modification that I'm not sure if I want to go that far. I prefer a square setup for looks and handling. I like corners and more meat in the front helps that lateral grip. Although, now that I have enough motor, I can steer with the throttle in the corners, which ups the pucker factor. :)

Yeah, I think that's another reason why they're so popular, they work with a lot of stock wheels. Even the design of the caliper is cut out and minimized on the outside edge to it clears most 14" wheels. :)
