Just my opinion, don't take the Falcon 9 launches for granted. Having seen the Challenger loss, I am always holding my breathe...always, with each launch. They really make it look easy, landing boosters and all. I just can't take it for granted. Thanks for the excellent content, as always.

Excellent point. We should remain grateful for the outstanding reliability record of Falcon 9, particularly for the crewed missions on Dragon. Human rating Starship will take time so Dragon remains the ride of choice to LEO for years to come.

As a kid I remember von Browne remarking that the shuttle was a very poor design and would be prone to problems. Ice coming off the tank damaged the wings and underbody all the time. It just was not very much and NASA put up with it. Picture the shuttle on TOP of the fuel tank; Then when the side SRB failed, it may not have taken the Shuttle with it. But stacking it that way would have needed a much taller tower and assemble building. NASA went cheap, and in the long run it never saved money, or flew as much as they told us it would. The shuttle spent more time having it's tiles fix after each flight than it spent flying. Not very reusable at all. Absolutely, a RUD is a major problem on any rocket. The Falcon-9/Dragon Capsule "has" an escape system for the Dragon, whereas the shuttle never had one.

From what I’ve read and understand of history the engineers at the launch site never wanted the Challenger to takeoff. Reagan had forced their hand for political reasons. As long as Elon Musk is in the driver seat, I don’t think we have much to worry about.

Agreed. I hold my breath 💯 more for crew launches. Take Crew 8’s recent launch. The hatch seal was crooked or something. This is Endeavour’s 5th flight. Re-entry 6 months later will have me on the edge of my seat!

The fact is the Falcon 9 launches are a lot like an A380 take off, amazing to watch, but nobody is surprised that they just work now. this is the remarkable thing about SpaceX, they have a launch and land cycle that is approaching that of a reputable airline - the routine nature is what makes it amazing.

Elon is fullfilling v.Brauns dream of 2 launches and 2 landings each day. Only thing missing is a shipyard in orbit. But that dream didn't go with a small rocket like Falcon9; it needs Starship to get a spaceship building facility up there and running.

6:00 Launch cadence is not likely to improve if anomalies continue. RUDs are fun, and technically not bad in themselves at this point, but they will slow SpaceX down due to having to answer to the bureaucracy. So my guess is Star Wars day for IFT 4 at the soonest if there is a RUD with IFT-3, otherwise, April 20th, of course.

Hi Ellie, I think the launch cadence will be reflective of the overall control SpaceX demonstrates over the IFT-3 flight. Even though these starship missions are under trial I think space shuttle type launch was much reliable. I don't know what would happen to this project but after spacex had faces many failures during vertical landing of booster but right now it is a successful program are rapidly being used these days similarly it would excel the Starship mission too.

The schedule as I see it: May 17., June 14th, July 19th, Aug23rd , one at end of September, one at the end of October and one at the end of November and maybe one middle of December this year. all flight must meet flight goals and no critical flight errors weather must be clear, the OLM and launch tower starship system interface must be flawless. I think the Space X team can do it.

What, 2 months till next one? Only if there's another mishap to file! The next Starship is almost ready, and another 3 look good already. A maximum of fiveandhalf weeks between the next launches. If that comes down to four weeks in IV 2024, they could get the planned 9 Starships launched. Catching depends on when 2nd tower is done. That could show one or another 'Rockets Unbalaced Descending'. 🚀🏴‍☠️🎸

Shortening the travel distance by going down in the Indian ocean is reducing the speed going up and down through the atmosphere. Which is reducing the forces and temperature on the heat tiles by the squared difference in speed. Which means quite a bit higher chance of heat shield sucess. So a logical rationale to landing in the Indian ocean at this stage of development of the ship. 🚀
