More problematic is that he is also just gaming the meet award system .......as he is not going to max out on the WR, but instead holds back so that he can break the WR again at another meet that awards those that break a WR at their meet.........these meet sponsors for leagues need to rethink how to award prize money when it comes to setting WRs.........so that it discourages this kind of hold back from maxing out........the reason I see this as a problem in my humble opinion is what if this guy gets seriously hurt or sick at some point? Then we will never really know just how high this guy could have pushed himself and what the WR could have really been under his reign...........anyway, thats my take....perhaps the prize money should be awarded by how much your break the record by...meaning the higher percentage you beat the old record by the higher the prize money goes........just a thought.......

I kinda completely agree with you but it is important to understand that we are here in a really weird position. Firstly because Mondo knows 9 times out of 10 that I will only compete against himself so the spectator knows also after the first jump. To that extent I can do wathever he wants, try to jump high or juste secure the and we can’t blame him for that. Secondly and more importantly, this is the only discipline where the athletes can choose which record he wants to break, it’s not even part of the competition, it becomes a show. Duplantis can do that and almost try to break a wr at every important meeting and he is the only one… to conclude, you can’t change the rules just for the goat of a specific discipline

He is such a great athlete! Probably he jumped over this hight in training already a few times.

He’s probably cleared that height in practice enough times to be comfortable and confident that he can perform in a competition.

@@SuperHammaren Yes...and it happened. Cornelis Warmderdam held the world records at 15-7.75 (outdoor) and 15-8.5 (indoor) for over 15 years, but they were broken, too. As will Mondo's.

Mens long jump, when will that be broken you think (only broken once(or did Carl Lewis so it too?) since 68 in approved conditions)?, womens long jump, 400m for ladies? Or mens high jump or the triple jump? 800m for ladies or ladies high jump? Ladies 100m , 200m.. Ladies decathlon.. mens hammer.. It is like 30 years or more for all of them I think and little prospects of those records being broken still. It can last very long. It takes an extreme talent (someone like Bubka coming along again) and Mondo is at least as good as the ones holding those records with respect to the competition at the time -pushing the boundarys considerably. But future will tell, the discus record was broken recently-in extreme conditions but still.. new pole material is a factor.

This is my exact theory, it's like he's clearing these heights too effortlessly for this not to be the case. But it's also insane to think😂😂

World athletics pays 100k USD for each ratified WR. Plus many athletes have bonuses I’m in their endorsement deals for WRs or Olympic medals

Bubka, yes, and I thought his record would last for a long time. Bubka is still a legend, though his record was broken some time ago.

@@anyomations3997 Highly doubt 6.40 lol, then he would not space out his world records this much. I think when he is on his best he could clear 6.30 but that is not something he can just reach at will. Even an increase of 1cm is still wr and incredibly hard to do at that height.

one of a kind ....in each sport there at least one nowadays . In Darts , there is a 17 year old who is just breathtakingly good at such a young age .

Because it's a NICHE sport! Everyone runs, almost everyone swims, but who uses a pole to vault. The only person I knew who pole vaulted was Aladdin and Abu!😅😊

I know, it was almost as if he were CLIMBING up the last few feet of the pole before he finally let go of it. This isn't just pole- vaulting, this is a hair- raising version of mountaineering. I cleared seven feet in middle school. Three times that is just inconceivable for me, but then, fifty years ago, we used just a bamboo pole, that simply couldn't store the kind of potential energy that these high- tech poles now can. One of those bamboo poles broke half- way up and sent the broken end clean through the cheek of a friend of mine.

Well that’s not true… he’s slowly getting there.. look for Bubka as reference - he is widely considered by many as one of the top 10 greatest track and field athletes in history. While my fellow country man, Mondo, is brilliant in pole vault, he hasn’t surpassed the GOAT that is Bubka. I hope he will

I think he is a US dual citizen. He grew up and competed mostly in the US and has been very well known in the US track community for some time (I've heard about him and his older brother- a very good vaulter for LSU- since I was in college in the mid 2010s).

@@coreyevans835 well known in the track and field world for sure - but just regular people? Casual sports fans? Much much less. Everyone knows Bolt everyone knows Phelps - this guy in my opinion - is in that class of athlete - or certainly will be when he retires

Armand is half swedish, half american. His brother Andreas was a pole vaulter too and represented Sweden so Greg and Armand joined the swedish athlete team when Armand was 14-15 years old. Fun fact: The third brother Antoine joined the swedish baseball team and their sister Johanna wants to compete for Sweden in pole vault, too!

His mother is Swedish and his girlfriend is Swedish. To claim he is American is just wrong. If a half Swede half American was competing for America I would not enter chat and say he is Swedish. he is 50/50 so he is not American. He is Swedish American.

He may have been honoring his mother, but believe me, he received many more benefits from the Swedes. Plus, he’s a “rock star” over there whereas in the US, he’d be able to walk most anywhere and not be recognized. Overall, he made the best decision for himself.
