In 1980 I spent Christmas Eve with friends going to church, and we all went to a Christmas party later that night. The next day was spent having dinner with my family. Those days are long gone...😔

Such genuinely wonderful, happy times at Christmas and New Year back then.

Thank you for sharing this home movie with the world. It shows the current generation what family getting together meant before year 2000, and that is enjoying each other's company, talking and laughing. Today, family members look at their phones instead of talking and interacting with each other during the holidays.

Our family dress up & enjoy a fabulous family Christmas with friends coming around in the evening for drinks & snacks . Christmas Eve doing the cooking & wrapping presents , dog enjoys all the fuss of wrapping paper. Christmas Day Mass afterwards Father goes to the pub for one or two & the girls in the house cooking along with a glass of sherry 2pm lunch . Neighbours might pop around in the evening for the Christmas Party. A few weeks before we help at the homeless shelter & donate £ & to the Animal Shelter that's from my staffy to other dogs in need of a loving home . Christmas is what you make it its not all about presents but the birth of Jesus & sharing your time & love for others in need & family & friends.

Yep, knowing what I know now, even without that benefit, where is the time machine, one way ticket.

I heartily concur with you and wish we could go back to that period. The gadgets are called mobile phones and I must point out that I didn't possess a mobile phone until seven years ago, because I felt I could do without!!

The last Christmas my family got together, the youngers were texting each other instead of actually talking to each other. That's weird, right?
@LightMediator Жыл бұрын
Because the cell phones didn't exists at that time, but imagine if they had existed🤷♂️

I would have been ten and in my last year at junior school, so remember the period well. A simpler era when children such as myself were allowed to be children, not bombarded by social media or forced to become adults almost overnight!

A sparsely decorated tree was somewhat common in the past...the tree often was used as a once a year "showcase" for treasured heirloom ornaments past down thru the generations...

I had just turned 14 a day before and stayed at my friend's house for a slumber party. Her parents went to a NYE party where they had to wear something symbolic of the 1970s. My brother donated his "The Grin Will Win" t-shirt to my friend's mom for the party. It was in reference to president Jimmy Carter.
