I'm 45 now and I would go back in time and go for the things that I really wanted instead of what I thought was expected of me. I would put away me fears and go for what I wanted. I guess it's not too late 😊

I'm 67 and I would not get married. I'm very independent, did not want children, and would not be a traditional wife. I was married for 10 years. My husband did not want children either which is one of the reasons I married him. But in the end I think he really wanted a traditional wife that would kow tow to him and wait on him 24/7. So I tell all young people to have the conversation BEFORE they get married about what their future husband/wife expects from marriage. Talk about the hard stuff before you are living it.

Trust only your ideas of what is right and true. Other people, no matter how much they think otherwise, do not understand your life and your goals. Don't listen to them. And keep your plans to yourself or they will try and shoot yours down if your plans don't agree with theirs....which is almost all the time. Just go about your business quietly. Be pleasant to the people around you. But don't give them anything to shoot at.

I’m 65. My financial advice is don’t spend money trying to keep up with others. Forget them and be frugal. And my most import advice is about personal relationships. Pay attention to red flags in people and walk away forever if you see red flags. Doesn’t matter if they are a blood family member, a friend, a spouse or life mate. No, I’m not suggesting walking away if someone is imperfect. We’re all human. But we all know what true red flags are. People don’t change. Love yourself enough to walk away from anyone who aren’t treating you as they should.

I have one advice : Please surround yourself with good people. When you realise someone is expoloiting you emotionally, spiritually, financially cut them away does not matter who they are to you. Life is already really difficulty do not let people you surround yourself with become another warzone. If you do not find good people be alone. Involvement with wrong people willl ruin your peace, money, health and youth. Be brave enough to distance yourself and say no ,fight for your happiness and peace.

I retired at 57, 6+ years ago. A key message I would communicate to others is don't delay retirement if you have the financial wherewithal to do so. Too often I have seen many people delay retirement and then experience health issues which constrain the very things they wanted to do post-retirement. Moreover, the most significant benefit of retirement for me is that I no longer have to deal with people I do not want to. That has proved to be the ultimate blessing.

This is excellent advice! And I'm going to take it a step further. Don't wait until retirement to do the fun or epic stuff you always wanted to do. You might encounter financial hardships later on, or have to deal with inevitable physical and health setbacks. You're better off hiking in the hinterlands of the Yukon in your 40's or 50's when your knees can still handle it and have the funds to cover it. Take that trip to Svalbard, The Torngats, or Jasper now. Don't put it off.

My one piece of advice: It doesn't matter what you do for an income/career, but, since you have only one life that means you have only one shot, so do what you love, what makes you happy; follow your dreams. Never, ever sacrifice your dreams for anyone. That means, if the people around you that are trying to run with you can't keep up, don't slow down for them because all they'll do, either consciously or subconsciously, intentionally or unintentionally, they are going to slow you down and make you run at their pace, which will make you appear to be just like them. And then, all of your extra capability, all of your excellence, all of your faster running speed isn't visible to people anymore, and your extra capabilities won't matter anymore. You won't be excellent or high speed because you just made yourself just as slow as the group. Don't do that. Run on. Run on, so you can find the group that you can run with at your speed. And, in the group that you find that you can run with, you'll discover the right person to share your life with. And, IMHO, don't ever get married. You don't need marriage to live a happy life. But, commonsense practicality dictates that you absolutely need a good [enough] income and a good [enough] lifestyle to be happy, be it alone or with someone, married or unmarried. Loneliness and regret is a luxury when compared to being cold, hungry, and displaced.

I agree 100% with the 'don't get married' advice. I was married 32 years, and when I think back on it, I'm always reminded of the song "Cold Rain and Snow" performed by the Grateful Dead, which starts with the lyrics, "Well I married me a wife, she's been trouble all my life..."

Personal choice.I was married once,it didn't work out,we both got married for the wrong reasons. But,once I was outta the marriage I got to do the things I REALLY wanted to do.Like-volunteer to go fight in Iraq with the Texas Guard in mid-2004-and all of 2005-at Camp TQ.I was with an infantry unit and did joint missions with the marines,I volunteered to do 4 deployments total, also did 2 tours back-to-back. Arrested and detained countless Iraqee citizens and insurgents, did countless raids, had some fire-fights lasting 3/4 hrs,etc,etc,..I was bored working 2 full time jobs ( did this for 10 months )wanted a challenge with high risks and danger. So,I offered my services to the guard ( I was already in the Texas Guard ) so,off to Iraq I went. LOL. Just the risky job I needed. I have no kids and never really wanted any of my own. LOL. SEMPER-FI

When adult children dismiss their parents opinion they likely are missing out. If you have 2 parents who are 50 years old - that is 100 years of life experience between the two of them! They don’t usually make suggestions because they ‘don’t have a life’ or because want to ‘control’ you - they just have seen many things over many decades, they have insights that come with time, they love you and want the best for you. More often than not, you’d save yourself a heck of a lot of trouble if you would heed their advice. You could save yourself some serious regrets. 💕

Advice from parents is not always good. My issue with my parents' advice is that it mixes actual personal wisdom with a lot of religious superstition, and it's not always easy to evaluate the quality of their advice because of that. I'm an atheist myself, and while I believe religion encapsulates a lot of centuries worth of wisdom, I also think it has many outdated ideas and superstitions that are not suited for our time.

“Finding the right partner” hit home with me. That’s a hard one until you get years under your belt with them. I was very young & I thought I found someone who was going to be successful & a good provider which was very important to me since my father was the very opposite. I always worked & never had a problem keeping a job. All went well for about 2 years & found he struggled to keep a job more than a year or two. Time went on & it improved to maybe 5-7 years tops. Thought it was always the companies he chose to work for but over the years found it was him making stupid mistakes. Was in my late 30’s & for the first time in my life I asked myself “what is wrong with him?” But I kept being supportive until he had an affair. I’m 70 now & I vote to never get married. Rely on yourself & have friends. 😊

I was just reading about the "myth of the male provider". It seems it has always been hogwash. Women used to be able to "garnish" a man's wages (maybe I got the word wrong) because otherwise he would drink all the money away on payday. Men provide for themselves. My dad used to eat his lunch at a fancy restaurant every day as we had very little food at home. He had a company car and his own golf membership. The rest of the family were second class. Then he lost the house to the bank. Staying single in the best advise. Boyfriends are great. Also get a dog.

What I’ve learned through the death of my Mom and sister is that you need to live for today, follow your dreams, work to live don’t live to work. Buy the pony, eat the occasional dessert, exercise, live well. Remember that your job will post a job opening the moment after you are no longer there, they are not family no natter how many times they say they are family. Always be able to financially take care of your own bills, don’t ever rely on someone else for that, my father’s death (at 12) was an eye opener for that. Don’t say you will travel in retirement, you may not be heathy enough to do that.

@@mybestideas1 You do have a point but I don't see the bill as a risk. The real risk is not living life. I personally never thought of children as a safety net for taking care of me later (I am still single btw) either. I think of them as a part of my family and circle for life. People are problems. They are number one reason for cancer imo but to avoid it is not living life. One would be a fool to believe that beauty will last forever and frankly, looks aren't the most important thing when it comes to happiness (I had A LOT of fun in my early thirties so I know both ends of the spectrum.). That's why we watch these vids of old people who can share their thoughts. I think the teacher brings balance to the topic but his whole talk sounds pretty defensive and someone who avoided problems mostly. Some Do’s & Don’ts Don’t depend on the opinions of others, or let them compromise your dreams or passion. Don’t be afraid to fail or take chances if it feels right to you. Don’t get lost in your regrets. Don’t quit or give up when the going gets tough. Don’t only be motivated by money. Don’t forget to treat others as you would expect to be treated. Do have Gratitude each day. Do find a balance in your life. Do always try to help others along the way. Do value your relationships. Do have a plan and foster discipline. Do forgive others & yourself. Do be sure to take timeout, to appreciate all the wonders of life around you.

Dont miss any opportunity. Don't hurt people that you love. Don't hurt people that loves you. Stop over thinking. Take actions. Get over things as quickly as possible. Stop watering dead flowers.

I’m 61. I wish I would have gotten help for my childhood trauma earlier. It affected so many areas of my life. I did try to get help but therapy was not enough. I only recently found out about specific modalities of trauma therapy and came to understand to impact of narcissistic abuse. What has been life changing for me was ayahuasca.

Following your passion is only good advice if your passion pays well and not many do. I have an uncle who never liked his job but made a lot of money and retired at 50 years old with obout $15 million. He and his wife are now in their early 70s and have spent the past 22 years traveling all over the world and having the most amazing experiences together. They would have never been able to live such a full life if he didn't make the money first. When you're young in your 20s, it seems fun to travel and stay in hostels and travel on the cheap, but that's not so fun when you're older. Money is very important.

My greatest success was to convince my wife to marry me. There is no way in hell I would have been this successful without her and her support. Finding that special someone is truly a gift worth treasuring. I know I won’t grow old alone, because being alone is extremely boring and lonely. I wake up everyday looking at my true love and thinking how awesome she is and how lucky I am 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

My advice. Just earn atleast for food and sleep as you wish. We are running after death. Don't compare yourself with others. Coz you are still alive.what a great thing in your life. Just roam in the streets. Do some public works without any payment. Help old people coz they would understand you so much.

My 80 year old FIL was happily married 42 years. His wife and he married in their 40s when they were wise enough. His wish was also for his son to marry a good woman. When he met me, my FIL gushed over me esp because he saw how happy his son was before even meeting me. He was wealthy, came from a wealthy family too and worked for his own wealth. He lived a peaceful life too, loved hiking in the mountains with his family. He took on responsibilities he could and married a working woman with the same goals as him. I’ll take all my life advice from them.

I appreciate that you showed diverse perspectives instead of just a typical "follow your passion" message - passion is important and good if you have it, but as mentioned in the video, it's not a guarantee that you will make it big by following it, and some people never find a true passion. There are people who end up doing something they don't particularly love, but it pays the bills and allows them to live comfortably and securely, and there are people who will take risks to chase a dream and either make it big or fail. Both are valid forms of fulfillment. I also like that we were able to hear from someone who stayed single and happy as well as those who are happily married. Thanks for sharing these messages with the world!

I think the advice to find the right life partner and wait a bit to make sure they're the right one would still be the same. Emotionally and financially, it's probably one of the most important choices you'll make in life.

I couldn't agree more. The young and the old are struggling equally. In Canada housing costs in major cities take up more than 50% of after tax income...and the well off say "money isn't important"!
